View Full Version : Is it possible to have a texture on the back of the neck and not the front?

Hello,

I have some snake-people characters and was playing around with making their skins in Bodyshop. They have scales on their bodies, but not everywhere - in some places it's just regular skin. Unfortunately, I've been having a problem in making the scales show up only on the back of the Sim's neck and not on the front, ie the part just beneath the chin. No matter how I edge the line between scale and skin, it either shows up with the neck entirely scaled or with a nice gap of skin on the back of the neck.

I guess my question is, is it even possible to have the texture on the back of the neck and not the front, thanks to the way the skins wrap around the meshes? And, if it is, is there a "map" or existing skin I can look at that anyone knows of so I can discover where the dividing line should be for the correct effect?

Many thanks!
Amanda

The best way to know where the lines are, as you describe it, is to use the UV map as a guide for the skin you're editing. The UV map shows the polygons and it's easier to understand how and why the skin texture gets distorted on different parts of the body.

Hmm, okay. I'll do some more looking into it (including what a UV map is!) when I'm off work. Yay research...!
