Also, if the scratching post fails, there are still better options then declawing. There exist caps for cat claws that glue in place, for example. Declawing is essentially like cutting off the ends of your fingers at the first knuckle. It can cause problems with walking as well because it changes the way the cat's feet hit the ground. |
Just in case you misunderstood me (I'm not sure if this is directed at me saying I clip my cats claws), I said I *clip* my cats claws. I didn't declaw her (which I would never do!). I use nail-clippers of the same kind I use to clip my fingernails and remove the very tip of her claw (the sharp bit) so the ends are blunt. She still has plenty of claw there for walking about and climbing trees and fences and getting into all the mischief her little kitty heart desires, but isn't as hard on my skin in games of 'disembowel the humans arm'.
She's quite relaxed about me doing it every week, so it doesn't hurt her. I don't even have to hold her down or anything, I just do it while she's napping in the evening and she ignores me.
(We have a scratching post, but she doesn't like it. She likes my girlfriends yoga mat... so thats a whole other story. Claw clipping does nothing to protect that from her destruction)
If this was just a general comment at people who declaw their cats to protect their furniture, carry on...

I have an efficiency cat. (ahem) He decided to change his ways a couple years ago - it saved him work if he just clawed where he was lying, any place on the carpet is just fine with him, never mind and fancy posts. With posts, he'd have to exert himself a little.

Don't insult cats! They're smarter and more intuitive than EA!
For a comparable animal that is as lazy as EA, koalas sleep 22 hours a day. (weeps..I lurv koalas!)
But they're smarter, too-and cuter by far.

I used to clip and file my cat's claw tips when he got elderly as they used to keep getting caught in the carpet or blankets and he had trouble getting them free. I found it a good idea to file smooth after clipping otherwise they used to fray and split.

Oh, I think I made that connection when the Maxis heads kept bragging about their amazing new dog food recipe vision and were baffled when dogs didn't like it. What would cats know about making food for stupid smelly dogs?

Does that mean the next EP is pets?
Or maybe Sims toddlers eat dog food?

After playing Sim city 2013 i thought that societies was not THAT bad... at least i had to balance fun venues and workplaces... in 2013 all i had to do is filling my 1 acre city with homes and raise taxes to win.
EDIT: it seems you are right kiwi, somebody did bring it via SC2013 (ugh), my mistake... however it doesn't makes good that Sims 4 is way worse than that

I love cats and miss my Boo Boo Kitty, he was my precious. Tender moments reading the posts here, bring me back to good days. I too would carefully clip and file Boo's claws and my family thought I was spoiling him with the mani/pedi but he loved it. Would lay on his back and expose his nails, I knew it was time for a do.
Cats are intuitive and defy physics. Have you watched them jump from one surface to another in a room? EA never was able to capture their awesomeness fully in the game, I think for Sims 4 the attempt will piss me off. Don't do it EA, leave pets to a costumed sim since that is the best you could do.

Not a big fan of most cats. I know it's not all of them but the ones I know aren't very affectionate. They remind me of those stuck up, anti-social, and slightly violent goth girls that you see in high school movies. That's why I'm a dog guy. I love my spoiled, cuddly, goofy, boxer/pit
God, I hope not. I get that Pets are needed but those are always my least favorite EPs. I need the first one to be something good or I'm gonna do what I did before with TS3 and just stop for a couple years until we get some more Expansions.

Back on topic: I just love it that the Sim Gu-nots are saving me more and more money! Every time I read that something that was in some or all the previous installments of The Sims games is too hard and expensive to do, it just solidifies my resolve in never wanting to purchase Sims 4, EVER.

@lil bag2, you've definitely not met the right cat yet. My daughter has one that is the friendliest and most affectionate cat I've ever met. She's sort of a special case in that she was crippled while very young (tried running through an open door and it was pulled shut on her and broke her back). She was only about three weeks old when she was injured and we thought she'd die. My daughter did all the mommy kitty duties. The poor little thing would pull herself about with her front paws, hind legs completely paralyzed and crossed over in the back. I sometimes wondered if it would be more humane to put her down but my daughter wanted to give her every chance for a recovery. After a couple of weeks I started seeing some movement in her hind legs. First, one of them was off to the side. After a while she was making headway in getting it under her and putting a little weight on it. Eventually she got both back legs under her. After a couple of months she could sort of walk. As I watched her progress a single thought often entered my mind. She had no way of knowing there was something really wrong with her. She didn't have the mental abilities to feel sorry for herself. She just did what her instincts pushed her to do, no questions asked. She walks oddly, it's sort of a sideways gait because her back end doesn't quite line up with her front end but she can sure go. Shoot, she can outrun me in the house. She's never let outside because it would be too dangerous for her but she's a perfect house cat. She can climb on the soft furniture and anything reasonably low but she can't jump onto anything like the kitchen counters.
While she was growing she had problems occasionally, in that every time she'd take a growth spurt something would get messed up and if she tried laying in something soft where her spine curved she'd have spasms. I had to pick her up by the nap of her neck and hold her straight and they'd stop. As soon as she got past growing the spasms would stop again. She's been an adult cat for a few years now so there are no more spasms. She's an awesome kitty. One day hubby brought home a kitten that sort of adopted him from his work place and this cat took him for her own. She's never had kittens (has been spayed since she was pretty young) but that has never stopped her maternal instincts. It doesn't matter whether it's another cat or a human, they are her "babies". She's also extremely playful. And yes indeed, her nails have to be clipped occasionally because otherwise people would end up with their forearms shredded.
Definitely not every cat is like her. We've had some that were completely aloof, some that really only act like they want affection when they're hungry. Shoot, we've one right now who when she's hungry will roll on the floor at my feet to get my attention.
I'd say overall as someone who's lived with both cats and dogs for well over fifty years, neither is the superior species. They are very different (although please don't tell that to Butternut, the former shop cat who has spent a good year coming to grips with the reality that he isn't a dog) from each other, and for that matter there are very many differences between personalities in the same species, but they can both be beyond awesome.
Back on a more Sims related track here, I actually like SimCity: Societies but not as a city sim so much. It's a fun little game (along the lines of City Life) but it's just not SimCity. I suppose thinking retrospectively it could be said it may've foretold the dumbing down of future games.

I have a aversion to cats. I fear them. And it's for a very absurd reason. In most horror/satanic movies cats are always used as gateways to other dimensions. Disagreeable dimensions. Demons or spirits could use cats to come into our "plane". Plus they stare into your soul... They're just creepy to me. lol

@lil bag2 Noooo! Cats are super affectionate. I've had 4 in total during my life, they were all super cuddly and the nicest little furballs.
My cat Kirby (like the Nintendo character cause we're geeks) showed up on my husband's birthday, meowing outside. My husband opened the door and he came in, made himself at home. XD We didn't adopt him straight away, we first made sure he wasn't anyone else's cat but after I convinced my husband, we took him in. He wasn't a kitten but he seemed still young, and since we don't know when he was born, we decided it would be the same date as my husband's birthday since that's when we found him.
Kirby cuddles me when I'm on the computer, comes to bed with me every night, wakes me up in the morning (sometimes by rubbing his face on mine), he sits on the stairs when my husband leaves for work and greets him when he comes back... He's the sweetest thing ever.
Ok, sorry it's as off topic as it can get. *Crazy cat lady mode off* :3
As for Sims 4 and the first EP issue, I do hope for people interested in the game that they do try their best to make a good EP and that's why it's delayed, but I'm not holding my breath. Honestly, they've really succeeded at alienating me, as a long time Sims fan and I don't feel the game is worth my time and money. Putting in family play and adding lots of interesting features. Even then, I'd rather the price go down and have some compilation (base+EPs).
It's going to take a lot of fixing and I'd like some acknowledgement that they screwed up, like they'd do that! Unfortunately EA isn't like Square-Enix, who realised they screwed up with FFXIV and apologized to the fans and entirely remade the game, with great success and on top of that, the fans actually have respect for them for admitting it and listening. If only EA could do this, they could win some respect. Maybe not remake Sims 4 but just publicly announce they realise they did a mistake and from now on will do their best to at least make this game better. IN MY DREAMS! U_U'

Not all cats are super affectionate. Any time a person has a cat around, though, the cat owns the person. Some appear to treat their property very well, love on them, rub on them, etc., but it's really only because they want something, either affection or food. Take the aforementioned Butternut as an example. He loves to go outside and romp around during the day, never mind how cold it is. He comes in and wants to get warm and if a person happens to have a lap available he claims the lap as his heating pad and plops in it. As soon as he's warm he's on his way again. If they don't want affection then you are simply there for the purpose of feeding them and cleaning up after them.
The first step in apologizing would be to admit there's a problem to begin with and so far at least outwardly no one is admitting a problem. Of course that doesn't mean there isn't much gnawing and gnashing going on behind closed doors. I know some people have accused the Gu-nots of arrogance. I'm not so sure it's arrogance so much as trying to maintain a confident posture while posting to the public. Sometimes the higher ups in companies don't want to admit they may've made a mistake (and really, mistake here is subjective because a lot of people really do like TS4) because they feel like it makes them look weak. From my angle, a person admitting they're wrong takes a whole lot more guts and strength than it does to hide behind excuses which is what it looks like they're doing now.

Well, he says this further down in answer to a question of "should we be worried about Sims 4?"
Steve Lansing @SimGuruSteve 6h6 hours ago
@RosiaMia_ Worried? Nope, it's just dev tools & the cheaper version is quite sufficient. Heck, it saves money so we can spend elsewhere!
*shrugs* That's all I got for you, gal.
