Hi All,

As most of you know, MTS2's file server suffered massive damage to both its primary and backup hard drives a few days ago. (The entire status thread can be found here: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=321390.

In that thread is a link to a list of all the missing files, but I've also added a banner to the top of any threads that have missing files.

The list of missing files (updated 22 April) is also available here: http://chii.modthesims2.com/missingfiles.html

For downloaders:

How can you help?

Well, it's simple. If you have the actual downloaded zip or rar files, as presented by the creator (Check the "Download" tab for the filename and size), then you may be able to help! Here's how:
  • First, check the files are actually gone - try downloading one! If you get a 404 error, please continue.
  • Click the Comments tab
  • Scroll down to the Quick Reply box and click Go Advanced
  • Put in a short description of which files you are attaching in the message box.
  • Scroll down a little way to find "Manage Attachments".
  • Click that button
  • In the window that pops up, attach the files
  • Once uploaded, close the window
  • Submit your post
  • Once your post is submitted you will see it, along with your attachments
  • Click on the Overview tab, and find the link that says "Report if this post breaks site rules"
  • On the resulting page, type in "Fixed files attached in comments, please check and send to Creator". <-- Type this text.
  • Note: This is the ONLY time which we will allow you to use reporting to report missing files. Normally it's not allowed.
  • Note 2: If you cannot report the thread (it's a staff member's creation or it says it's already been reported), then please report any other post in the thread instead, with the same reason.
  • Send the report.
  • That's it! We will review it and take it from there
  • Thank you

Once all files are attached to the thread, the Creator or the Staff can toggle off the "Corrupted file" banner by using the tickbox on the edit post screen.

For Creators:

Please make sure to upload your files with the exact same filename and extension and do not remove the old one! Just upload over the top, then you will keep your download count.

Heres how:
  • First, locate the original .rar or .zip you uploaded to MTS2
  • Next, go to your download with that missing file.
  • Click the "Downloads" tab
  • Click the Edit button
  • Scroll down a little way to find "Manage Attachments".
  • Click that button
  • In the window that pops up, attach the files, remembering to make sure you keep the same filename, etc
  • Once uploaded, close the window
  • Scroll up and find the tickbox marked "Corrupted Thread"
  • Untick it.
  • Save your changes

I'd like to thank anybody who helps fill in the gaps, and again apologise for this unforeseen event.

Regards
Delphy

arathea, I believe you could try and just report any of the other posts in a thread when you find you can't report the actual upload post itself. All we actually need to know is which thread an upload belongs to (and the post number in case of multi-post uploads, but those are relatively rare).

If you can't report a thread, please just pick a random post in the comments and report that instead.

I just would like to note that I reported using they way told to

Quote:

But I recieved an email back saying its not a good usage of the reporting feature here on mts2. All I was doing was trying to help and thinking I was doing right as Delphy did state to use that feature. It just seems to me quite often we are dammed if we do and dammed if we don't. Maybe it still helped though as the download looks fixed now!

BANNER ABOVE DOWNLOAD:

Attention! This thread may have one or more missing files, as per the recent fileserver crash. See here for the details. Want to help? See here for details.

What part of the big banner above the download did you not understand? How can we clarify this for you? Do you have the missing file? If so, could you please attach it using the prescribed method Delphy laid out?

When I tried to upload without removing, the page keep appering an erro. When I removed, it's ok. /)
I tested and the downlod works fine.

I had two threads I recently updated to add some files, and as such, I updated the "ALL" .rars that were in my threads. The new files needed fixing, and the "ALL" .rars were set back to before I updated. So, of course I needed to fix those as well.
When I tried to overwrite the "ALL" .rars, I got an error the first time, and the second time it went through, but it was set at the bottom of the list like a new upload would be, and my download count was erased. This is not a problem for me, I don't mind. Just thought the previous update of the .rars should be noted to maybe be problematic.

Hi All,

Just to let you know... the original missing files number was this:

Total files: 7418
Threads affected: 3760

As of writing this post, we are down to:

Total files: 5054
Threads affected: 2703

This doesn't count any uncopied reported posts. Good work everybody!

A bit late, but...

ekrubynaffit, you received that message not by default - but because you hadn't attached any files to the thread. We know what's missing, there's a list linked in the status thread. What we need are replacement files, as stated in Delphy's instructions.

ClicknPsycho, you can always do a comparison between the missingfiles list that I posted and the ones you have.

Delphy - if we go and delete old attachments from Create Help threads (which are no longer relevant or useful) would that be reflected favourably in the missing files count?

If you find you can't report an upload, please just report any random post in the same thread. All we really need to know is the thread an upoad belongs to. Thank you!

I uploaded two files for SimplyStella's Shorts and Boots (only adults). Couldn't report the thread so I'm posting it here as it says in Note2:
The Thread and my post with the downloads

Edit: I meant the previous note which still said to post the links here instead of reporting a different post.

Hmm, I wondered if you could make the missing files list searchable? I'd really like to help, but I don't have the time for paging through thousands of entries...
