Thank you, plasticbox!

I will try that right now. Oh, this site is the best, you people are the best, and I am just a happy little duck right now. :D

I think you'll have a hard time finding a place that's more willing to help you learn and improve.
So you got rejected, and it hurt. Most creators get frustrated at some point.
Check the tutorials and ask for advice in the feedback forum, like Patul suggested.

We don't expect everyone to be Vindicare or corvi or plasticbox. We *do* expect people to work on an upload. If you got rejected for lack of landscape, *add* some.

oh wow. well i had problem recently with downloading houses. some even from mod2. i couldnt delete the house from the bin. had to hunt it down manually. thank goodness for SimPE that let me see what is what. but still they shouldnt have crashed my game. they were compatible with my game expansion. noooo it didnt. if that is the case why not have a spot so we can post what house is not working for other to warn and so have some changes marked about that house. still all in all. i love dl the houses especially furnished under 20 000 bucks houses. i do think contents used and not included should be listed with the proper name and where and what it is and especially what expansion it is . no info on a object is very weird i think. it sometimes not say if it is pet or university . maybe i just need to get all the expansion and be safe. sim2 is some hard game to play with the work w e put in to make sure it is compatible and not crash on us sigh. ah well . we still will play im sure.

mamxnb, uhm, every download has the spot where you can post comments and feedback, including if it didn't work in your game. Perhaps the creator missed clicking one of the eps they have? I know that if you only have base game and uni, you cannot use lots from other eps. I believe OFB and PETS also introduced more changes to the lots (as did nightlife). So it's quite possible you got a lot that was still incompatible with your game, people can make mistakes - but they'll try to fix them if notified, even if only to change the requirements listings.

Maxis did this. I honestly don't know _why_. I really wish they'd fully implemented the build stuff and kept it backwards compatible to begin with.

mamxnb, if a house from *this site* doesn't work for you, you should definitely post feedback in the d/l thread, that's exactly the kind of useful feedback it's there for! People unfortunately often seem to assume that their houses will work without expansions, and if the downloaders don't tell them that that's not the case, they're not going to find out. (A quick+easy way to check if a lot if base-game compatible is to look at the roof: if it has anything else than 45°-angled roofs, it's not gonna work for you. Different angles, as well as those little round and pointy tips, were all introduced with later EPs.)

Also, there used to be a problem with the Maxis installer and base game users, I'm not sure if that still exists -- the installer would tell people that they needed expansions even when the house was actually made with the base game only. The workaround is to use Clean Installer, apparently. I don't have a link at hand but if you look at any of my own base-game-only starters (Newbie Road up to #27 or so) there's a note about it in every one of the posts with pointers to more info.

"why not have a spot so we can post what house is not working for other to warn" -- if you mean about houses in general, not only mts2 (perhaps other sites don't provide a way to leave feedback?), I'm not aware of such a forum ... maybe try starting a thread about it yourself? Don't know where it would be appropriate, here or atSims2Community?

I like the new policy, and I want to add a suggestion. The part about Clean Installer is Win-only, so we Mac users teorically shouldn't upload any lot. There are, however, tips and tricks which can lead to analogue result, without the Clean Installer: they're of course more tricky, but for who can't use Clean Installer are the only choice.

Maybe a notice about that may come in handy, i.e. "you must run the lot throug Clean Installer or (if you run MacOS)..." with a link to the post which explain how to.

Is there anyway to remove a house from the moderation queue? I uploaded the wrong versions of my newest upload and I'm so embarassed because I didn't clean it out first. I hate to make someone take the time to look at it. I'd rather be able to delete it myself and redo it correctly.

If a house crashes your game it's most likely that the creator missed one of the EP's or didn't know it was needed for the download. You can do two things:
1. post in the thread and tell the creator that the lot crashed your game. Make sure you post all relevant information for them, your EP's, if you installed the CC that came with the lot etc.
2. If the creator doesn't post a reaction to your post report the post using the report button. The moderators then can take a look at it.

It's great you found them using SimPE and could get rid of them, but i wrote a little FAQ for this problem. This is (imo) simpler than using SimPE.

The only way is to have a moderator actually look at it and conditional it. You'll receive a PM with the reason why. Your lot has been approved, so problem solved!

If you want a site that has quality items, then I think MTS2 is recognised community-wide as one of the best places to do that. Just becuase you got a lot rejected you have to go throw toys out of the pram and claim we are elitist and etc etc instead of actually looking at the advice you are given and improve your lots and your build skills.

All I have to say is: Good luck on the Exchange!

sorry but being refused for "sub-standed roofing" was less than the highlight of my day. that said i havecalmed down and can see why you rejected ONE of them, because your right, it was a box. but the one refused for "sub-standed roofing" was a unique house and would have been good. sorry about my reaction but having friends murdered can make people touchy

PS for any C.O.Z. out there, christophoson is dead

pps, oh and thanks patul.

What does C.O.Z stand for? Who is christophoson?

Update: July 2009-I am back now to make invisible and tranparent recolors again in sims 2. You can pm me if you want your objects to be invisible and transparent from now.

C.O.Z a nickname of my religion. Christopherson was a very high ranking member who was murdered by a ring of Mylasian child pornographers after destroying 100's of sites owned by the perverts. they killed him in russia, whilst he was seeing his sick mother. thanks to the efforts of EX-Mafia mercinarys, they did not make it out of russia. the ring has, thanks to his efforts, been permernently closed.

may Christophoson. Nile. DeMentia's spirit find happyness in the next life

[QUOTE=plasticbox]* also, some lots (at least, some of mine) are usable as both residental and community -- would it be possible, at some point, to have them listed in both categories? That would seem easier / more bandwith-friendly than rezoning and uploading the exact same thing twice (I haven't done that yet, but I was tempted =).

I would think a great solution for this would to pick your best example then which ever category it is uploaded to, mention that the lot is convertible to business or whatever. Like some community hotel/motel type lots are easily convertible to University Dorms for one example of a conversion I have done with downloaded lots.

Heck I usually wind up doing some remodel work on every lot I download. I use the limitation of sticking within the basic structural plan of the original but I still wind up redoing it to suit the particular sims or the particular usage. A prime example of an extensive remodel for me is the car lots. I do one heck of a lot of changes to those as a rule, even sometimes adding an extra floor to them.

But I freely admit I am not much of a designer for buildings as such.

I will admit it would probably save me tons of time just having an idea of which lots are convertible. I know I have personally spent hours it seems searching for right basic lots, then downloading and installing to test neighborhood then trying to convert or remodel. Just to have to go search again for something more suitable.

Doc,

yes that's what I'm currently doing ("which ever category it is uploaded to, mention that the lot is convertible to business or whatever") -- I'm just thinking if someone searches specifically for a business/dorm/whatever, they're not going to see a perfectly useable such building if it's uploaded in the "wrong" (alternate/primary) category. That's why I suggested the "double categorization".

Cheers,

p
