Hey guys,

Pets arrived in the mail today!
I'm looking though the MTS guide to install a new EP, and I've got a question.

The only thing I have in my mods folder, (besides the packages folder) is "Resource.cfg". Do I need to remove that before I install Pets?

Also, I’m wondering if I should move my packages folder while I install? The CC I have in that are: objects, clothes, makeup and hair. (I don’t have that much CC now that I’ve looked, lol!)
Oh, if yes to the above Question, do I need to move my "Downloads" folder too?

My CC is from The EA Sims3 store, MTS, TSR and other places.
I have no hacks installed.

Thanks!

Yes, you need to move the mod folder and the resource.cfg to another place before installing Pets.

To guarantee everything work normal.

I would move your Downloads folder as well. It's always best to have no CC or Mods whatsoever in your game when you install a new EP, just to avoid conflicts and things.

There are not going to be any issues with INSTALLING with mods. You can leave them there when you install... and you don't have to worry about resource.cfg, that doesn't do anything by itself It just tells the game where to look for .package format CC.

The issue comes when you try to PLAY with mods and CC, and that applies to save games, lots, worlds, and sims that contain CC items as well as the .packages and .sims3packs themselves. Incompatible mods and CC can cause problems which can break your saves. Sounds like most of your CC is in sims3pack format... and THAT is all installed in a folder called dccache (what's in "downloads" is essentially backup copies; dccache is what the game uses).

It's a good idea to temporarily remove ALL that stuff before you run the patched game... easy way is just move your TS3 folder under My Documents\Electronic Arts to a different location, like your desktop, since that will get all of it. Then, after you've verified that the patched game is running properly (with a new save), put back anything you think is safe.

As for what is safe: Pets specifically broke a lot of object mods (basically, anything that a sim or a pet can interact with, including furniture, windows and the like). So you should look for updates for ALL your object mods, or use a rigfix to fix them yourself (there's one here http://sims3.the-prof.net/forums/in...pic,1298.0.html and another one at TSR). There was a patch for Store stuff, so you should make sure you get that. TSR has updated all their CC, and so have many creators here and at other sites; you'd have to visit the site where you got it to get the updates. Other stuff (hair, clothes) is probably OK. Any script or gameplay hacks ALWAYS have to be updated after any patch, but it doesn't sound like you have any.

There's a lot of discussion about pets-specific issues in this very long thread: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=458126 . Yeah, I know, TMI The summary is in the previous paragraph.
