1. I personally consider gifts to be perfectly legitimate things to have or sell, but anyone who considers them to be too cheaty may get rid of them without making any money off of them. 2. Again, lots earned by people who later move or die are considered perfectly legitimate income, but if you wish to play otherwise you may. You're only not allowed to make money by selling them, though you can for example sell them and use a cheat code to waste the money or something. |

So has anyone put any thought into how to work University into this? My thoughts on it were to not allow them to go to University until you had botht he city hall and public school. Which was fine because I have both and I don't want to start all over because of a new expansion again. So, I send the oldest from My 4th generation to University and then realize, it has a lot of the same stuff that the town needs that I don't have yet. Like a Fire Station. Then there are the new items, and the new lifetime wants and the new skills. The whole thing makes my head hurt and I have a feeling before anyone can get it worked out, the next one is going to be coming out. EA is releasing these way to fast. It's suppose to be three or four a year not one every two months if you don't count stuff and world packs. If you count those it's starting to feel like once every three weeks or so. So my thought is that since it is a lot like World Adventure in how it is set up, but it's designed to give your sim a heads up and education should never be neglected. I feel we have two choices. Either the first Sim to go to Colllege must be someone who has already completed their lifetime want. Or we should treat it like school in general, its something they need to do so they should do it. Then its just up to you as to whether or not you want to say if you don't have a diner in town you can't have one on campus or not. I am inclined to go with the idea that we are building a town not a university. Campus can keep what it has because I don't think they can exactly get jobs at the diner. I don't know I haven't tried yet. But, there is a job board so I would say probably not. |

I don't have the new expansion yet (currently trying to figure out if I can afford it with my very tiny income), but from what I know about it thus far I believe I'm going to have to make the rules treat it similar to vacations: i.e. you can send a Sim there whenever you want, but they can't earn a lot for you if they haven't already. I may change my mind though once I get my hands on the expansion myself or at least get better info on it. |

I know Avalikia already answered you, but since you say you are doing a Random/NIF combo, I thought I'd point out that the rules for gifts in the Random LegacyChallenge is that you may keep any objects you receive, but you may not not sell them for cash. And gifts can't be used to complete the Luxury requirement. Not that you have to follow RLC rules, but that's where we stand on those.

Hi Calisims :-) Thank you for your post, the rules I am following for the Random Legacy are here: http://randomlegacychallenge.blogspot.co.uk/ The only rule I can find in there relating to gifts is this: 15. With SN, we now have the ability to send gifts to our friends' Sims through SimPort. If you receive gifts (objects or elixirs) from your friends while playing your legacy house, you may not sell those objects. You may use those objects in your Sim's house, or use any elixirs sent to you. So that specifically states gifts that other (real life) people send you rather than gifts that you receive through play by the game, which is basically random. I can't see anywhere that says anything about those sorts of gifts. Is it written somewhere else do you know? I'm not actually selling gifts now I'm saving them up for a gallery so I've got some interesting items in there rather than just what my Sims keep painting. But I wanted to know what Avilikia thought about it and if she considered it cheating. |

My Random/NIF Legacy continues to be incredibly random including a quite bizarre array of bugs and glitches. My house is currently speckled with little green plumbobs in the flooring which won't go away. I have no idea why they keep showing up. Also my lot kicks me out every Sim morning at 3am which is when Overwatch runs. I have to get back in by going to Setup and selecting the household again. Rather annoying. My currently couple also can't get married, no matter how much snuggling I have them do the option never comes up so it's babies born in sin I'm afraid. I actually had to use a mod (Bless Twallan's cotton socks) to even get them to move in together. Two kids and they are still only boyfriend and girlfriend. Apart from the large collection of glitches my 3rd generation did have twins so that was 3 kids rather than 2. I selected the younger son as my heir which was good as he was the only one minus the large nose. He's called Perin and he rolled couple, 2 kids, Alchemist, Busker, Hobby and Runs in the Family. My previous heir, Elle reached the top of her Stylist career and was bringing in good money but that was nothing compared to what Perin brought in as an Alchemist. He couldn't register as one as we are still missing a City Hall but he got the Alchemy consignment store lot and good selling traits and LTR's so was raking the cash in. Zhan (the guy from China who had married Elle) didn't really need to work at all really just did the chores and searched for galaxy's with the telescope. He ended up attracting a meteor which was fun. I had everyone run out of the house and they were ok with the first one landing but then Zhan went to check out the rock (ok grab it for cash!) and he got hit by one of the other 10 or so that followed. Really wasn't expecting that! Random.l The house was kinda trashed but I couldn't replace anything because of the 'Living Green' restriction :-) Once Perin took over it was all good. Although he ate a magic jelly bean and died. Another random death. Elle had a wish left on her dusty lamp though and used that to bring him back. With all that drama the lots that the kids were working towards changed and they unlocked the Firestation and Graveyard instead :-) Currently I have: Grocery Store Military Base Gypsy Caravan Big Park Diner Salon School Science Lab Alchemist Store Small Park (maze) Firestation Graveyard I'm about to unlock Theatre (due to spouse being a busker I thought it was appropriate). Now I might give it a rest for a bit and catch up on my Lonely Island Legacy. My next post is up. http://sim3nothingisfree.blogspot.c...n-or-robot.html |

Sorry about that, that was one of those unwritten rules we all know but never got into writing. I just added that now officially to the blog. But, generally speaking, the income restrictions tend to run on the principal that you cannot make money outside your rolled career. If you are getting money for something outside your career, or opportunities, it's probably not allowed. If you ever have a question about RLC rules, feel free to post in our thread here.

I would think of University as being separate from the town, so someone could go to university as they would travel to it and live there (like going on vacation). But like vacation I'd restrict it to sims who have completed their lot. |

I haven't had too much time to spend playing The Sims which is a pain but work is kinda important too. I did order the latest expansion but it hasn't arrived so I'm guessing that is £25 down the drain and I'll have to spend another £25 to buy it again. Oh well. Another chapter to my blog is up here . |

My poor NIF/Random Legacy game was sucked into a black hole which left twinkie wrappers all over my keyboard... :-( As of the 5th generation it has gotten too buggy to play now. Oh well. I can redo and apply the hard earned lessons. |

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that! That always seems to be the fatal flaw to any longer challenge like this - it's practically begging for something to eventually go wrong to the point where you can't play.

Oh no! I had that happen with my first NIF. But when I restarted, I knew what I could and couldn't do game-wise and that save only cracked open after generation 7 because one of my kids started clicking away with the mouse and I'll never be sure just what debug settings he finally used to kill it. I hope your other NIF is still doing alright though. I'm still waiting to see if Edwin has made his move yet.

Yep :-) It's the first time it's happened to me really, still my 2nd attempt is going well. My next chapter is up as well, although Whitney is in the throes of a mid life crises so's she's feeling a bit angsty. She'll get over it :-) And Edwin has made his move. He did that a few posts ago, still no marriage; I couldn't figure out a way to make that work but Whitney is on the case. Or she will be once she stops being so whiny about growing old. |

I was wondering what are the requirements on adding lots that came from the store. Like the new lots from Aurora Skies. Or the food market place. Pretty much any lots that came from worlds from the ts3 store. |

Well, that would depend on which lot you're talking about. I know that most of the rabbitholes that come with the worlds you get from the store are pretty much identical to ones that come with the base game except in things like size and appearance - those you treat exactly like their counterparts. When it comes to combo lots, you earn them by combining the requirements for both lots at once with the same Sim - in fact the ones from the expansions are only listed in the rules for your convenience. As far as I know, what they don't have in these store worlds is entirely new lot types (e.g. Big Park, Fishing Spot, etc.). Though if they do and for any rabbit holes that truly are unique, I can't tell you what you should have to do to earn them because I don't have them or any info on them - so they'd fall under 'use your own judgement'. And for those of you who are wondering: I still don't have the University expansion, though I'm getting close to the point of being able to be sure I can afford it. When I do, I promise to come back and update the challenge for it, though if you didn't see me say it earlier I've already figured that going to the University ought to be treated like a vacation - Sims who have earned a lot can go there without penalty, and those who haven't can't earn one after they've gone.

I'm curious to see a rundown of what people find too cheaty for their games. I have decided to ban the motive mobile as I can go out and constantly pick up items and make 15k/day from collecting and selling at the consignment booth. |

Easy access to valuable gems and metals (e.g. tiberium; ~40K per large spire cut) very early on. Useful when you want to buy an expensive lot/rabbit hole or fully upgrade, say, an art gallery, completely detonates the moneymaking game otherwise (esp. if you have nothing to spend it on). I've actually given up several attempts after such things made those runs boring; currently I don't sell the more valuable ones unless I need the money for something (an unlocked lot, for example), and I'm editing one world I downloaded on-and-off to remove some of the spawners and move others to (the still-empty) community lots. |

Good one, G-Mon. I just recently found a great source of empty worlds. Many of them are re-created in CAW EA worlds. I like this better than the savefiles. http://customsims3.com/forums/forum-40.html |

Hello all - it's been a while since I popped in. I've been busy playing my Legacy/NIF challenge since my last one imploded (I Will Not Be Defeated!). It's actually going a lot better than the last, my 4 generation is just about ready to take over and so far every single spare has moved into a decent house and unlocked a lot. I had a bit of luck with my first career being one I could make a bit of money with but mostly I've just played smarter. I've also made sure each spare child that moves out has a partner so my world is populating. My latest ones are now also being able to hook up with 'real' sims rather than IF's because my generation 1 lady changed into a werewolf (she had Alchemy and I thought it would help with finding ingredients - it didn't really as it happened). Due to the extra long lifespan I moved her out once she hit elder so she only earned about as much for the household as she would have done if she had stayed. And, with the house coming free on her death another family (non related) moved in. So we now have other sims we can marry. Win! I've also expanded my 'random' rolls so I roll to see which one is heir as well. All going well, by generation 10 I should have most of the town fully built up. Well so long as my legacy doesn't explode again... Is anyone else out there doing both challenges together? For those interested in my blog I've added another couple of posts in the last day. Here is the link from the first of this month. Whitney has finally achieved her goal. Well sort of :-) http://sim3nothingisfree.blogspot.c...ere-slowly.html |

I just kind of assumed NIF and Legacy went hand in hand. I had to start over several times because of a Seasons related bug which I FINALLY found a fix for. I actually quit playing for several months because this bug was so annoying. Now I found a simple fix which makes me wish I didn't delete my old files in anger. I've restarted and I am on gen 3 but the sims are only having one baby per family so far. I have a bunch of restrictions I made -- like the sims can't change the outfits or hairstyles they roll until a salon is in place. So I'm working on the salon now and i have a bunch of fugly sims running around with George Washington wigs and hospital gowns. |

I have a couple of worlds and the associated lots, so while this is an old post, I'll note things down. Some worlds have a gold version with an extra venue: Sunlit Tides - Serenity Retreat. Contains a massage table and an outdoor shower. Also has some wedding-type stuff. Lucky Palms - Lucky Simoleon Casino. Contains a blackjack table and gambling machines, and a new addition to the store adds in a roulette and poker table. If you have the wishing well (which comes with LP regular) you can sometimes swipe a lucky coin from the fountain and use it to gamble in the machines of the equivalent of a $7.5k pay-in. Monte Vista - Al Fresco Marketplace. Contains a produce stand and lemonade (juice) stand, as well as two new harvestables. Aurora Skies - Tiny Prodigies Early Learning Center. Contains the Local Motion Toddler Walker and Head Start Playpen, two toddler items. Really, the casino and related items (plus the wishing well) can be mega-huge tons of money. I'd personally put some kind of restriction on the casino/casino items as they can bring in a ton of money. There is a new casino skill so you could allow a sim to buy a machine or table for the home and get to level 10. But yeah, been a while since I was here, been doing a post as I play legacy but tempted to load up an NIF challenge soon. I really found it fun, although my building skills are still pretty bad. Edit: I forgot to add, the fountain from Lucky Palms can be pretty cheaty. Wish for love -- if it succeeds, it seems to create a random sim and they and your sim become instant love interests -- or wish for a child -- if it succeeds, new baby added to your family (if it fails, you get a child with the evil trait, or you can also get a cat or dog with pets installed). Dunno how much it costs, though, as I've not had it on a lot a sim of mine has bought.
