Rules ...because it seems one can never have enough rules, or justifications for employing said rules, and enjoying the outcome.

Ahh, can't say I blame them. Many forums are too hard to be part of because they are so nasty. If it works for them and keeps the trolls at bay, good.

Fundamental flaws exist in all aspects of human behaviour. Your logic could be applied to our law systems too.
