Mailperson, taxi, etc., appear by the mailbox. If it doesn't bother you when the taxi pulls into the foyer, it won't bother your sims.

You can move it to wherever you want it, just don't delete it.

The mailbox is the portal for some cars to stop by when they come on to the lot so where ever you move it to some vehicle will stop next to it.

It is best to leave it next to the road in the same direction it faces or else you will have vehicles will go wonky on you.

Thanks everyone; good to know! While I have moved the mailbox away from the street before, I've never placed it inside, so thanks for the info.

The packages in the main neighborhood folder, and also some character files. I didn't check all files but many of those I checked were changed at the time I played. But I also noticed that packages in neighborhoods that I didn't even touch that session were also changed. So I probably could've used that backup. Because files changing in the folder apparently doesn't necessarily mean the game is actually changed. I decided to quit without saving anyway since I was pretty sure I didn't want to use that outcome anyway. But could be good to know for the future if I ever forget to backup before trying different scenarios again.

Maybe it had something to do with that I removed a hack and cache files before that session?

I've noticed that while playing a lot, that lot file's time/date stamp will change even though I haven't saved the lot. However if I quit that lot without saving, the time/date stamp will revert back to its original value. My guess is that the changes due to playing are updated in the files but until the files are actually saved, those changes aren't made permanent.

Now if you copy/backup after changes have been made but before they're saved, I'd be interested to see what the time/date stamps show in your backup. Does the backup commit the unsaved changes or does it revert back to the last saved version? It might be worth a simple test to verify.

That's exactly why I asked that question, because I was afraid the game would be changed if I used that backup even though I hadn't saved. How can the game affect files outside of The Sims 2 folder? I think they would've stayed the same. Scary... :P

Question for those who play a lot of owned community lots and/or integrated hoods: how does restocking work when you are not controlling the business? For example, let's say Malcolm owns a retail business. Actually, I think he does own an electronic shop. So, yeah, if Brandi goes to the shop and buys a stereo or whatever, can Dina visit during her rotation turn and still buy the stereo? Or will it be out of stock? Does it matter if the item is craftable or not? Like, if Brandi buys a robot, can Dina still buy a robot when I play her next, or will I need to play Malcom again and make another robot?

Phantomknight - it's been a long time since I've played business lots - someone else back me up? I believe, though, that once the shop is set up, others can buy whatever is for sale without the owner having to go there. And when he does, he won't have to restock anything.

Question! I am considering downloading these skintones: http://modthesims.info/d/274668/gen...-skintones.html

I have never downloaded skins before. What happens if I remove them from my game? Do I just put them in regular downloads? Anything I should know about skintone issues before I take the plunge? Thanks

I believe that is false. I have a memory of shopping at an owned community lot and I couldn't buy any more after the stock was empty. What's worse is the business owner is always there but he's useless.

What happens when you remove them is the sims who had them gets default skin 2. (Medium.) And their genetics will be messed up so if you want them to procreate you will have to fix them in SimPE but that's easy. Yes you put them in the downloads folder. I would suggest making a subfolder for skins. Geneticized means townies can be generated with them. I personally don't use geneticized skins because I want to have control who has them. I use defaults instead so I can just swap them out if I change my mind.

I've used those for years. You just pop them in regular downloads. I think, if you delete skintones, they can cause some issues with any sims that were using it, but you shouldnt really need to remove those. The biggest issue to watch out for with skintones is if they are a complete set (meaning whether or not they include the baby stage, which can cause crashes if a baby is assigned to the skin but it doesnt have a baby skin). That is NOT a problem with these.

The business owner/employee will try to restock the item if he can. If he can't, it wont be there for Dina.

All vehicles stop at car stop portals, every lot has two car stop portals, one across the road for service vehicles and one on the house side of the road for taxis, school bus, car pool vehicles and at non-liveable lots owned vehicles. The letter box is however used as a 'loitering' location for visitors and a fall-back drop location for parcels, since visitors can't enter your sim's home until they are greeted having it inside may cause some minor problems.

I thought of one relatively simple way to test, although I don't have a test neighborhood to try it on. I also noticed that Sims character files' time/date stamps get updated when they are called on the phone - probably to reflect the relationship change. So the test would be to call (and call and call) one particular Sim who you aren't friends with over and over until you do make friends with them. Then make your backup, quit without saving and exit the game. Load the backup, start the game and then go into the lot from where you did the calling and see if that called Sim is still a friend or not.

Any idea about how to make a non-default mesh out of a default one?
I tried to follow Phaenoh's tutorial, but it works only for recolors.

Well... (one of) my IRL namesakes is the hibiscus so if you wanted to use that midbiscus tree from BG as a model that'd be fitting

If you're trying to make a non-default version of some default replacement CC, a lot of them these days are made in such a way that their mesh doesn't overwrite any default meshes (they just link the clothing to that mesh instead of a default mesh). If that's the case, just open the package and extract the GMDC, GMND, CRES, and SHPE and build a new mesh package out of those. Then you can use Phaenoh's tutorial, just make sure to keep this mesh package along with the custom versions.

If they do overwrite a maxis mesh (have group 0x1C0532FA), you can still extract the mesh resources, just once you have them in their own package use Tools > Object Tools > Fix Integrity, replace the modelname with something unique and descriptive, click "update" and then "ok". Once you've got this mesh package saved you can use Phaenoh's tutorial, but then go through all the custom versions, open their 3DIR, and use Tools > PJSE > Body Mesh Tool > Linking Stage to link them to the custom version of the mesh.

Pescado's "Business Runs You" has the option to assign a function to the business owner. Most options are self-explanatory (see attached screenshot). The other two are: "Bugger Off" (owner stays home) and "No Task" (owner stands around being useless like in the unmodded game)

I'm just going to go off topic here and vent for a second, since it has been brought up, but I hate the business controller Pescado has, regardless of how useful it is. Maybe it's petty, but I wish I could change the model so that it's not a literal hammer and sickle. I get the Soviet Russia joke, but my country was under Soviet occupation & repression for 50 years and thus it's just offensive to me to have it in my game, which is why I refuse to use it. I just wish Pescado had been more considerate and made it literally any other model already in the game.

What is the official name of the complete collection of sims 2 and where can I buy one? Do I must have origin installed for that?

If you have a Mac, you can get the the Sims 2 Super Collection at the mac app store. For PCs, it's called the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, and it's not for sale. Try places like ebay for disks.

That is the one that actually prompted me to write that tutorial. It was beyond awful. The Pescado eye is just awful. In my game, the business controller is a solar panel on the roof and the baby controller is a giant teddy bear in the crib.

Yep, that's it.

And I am now updating that info with the MidgetheTree tree to honor Radium for her work on VC.

If you need more detail, check the tutorial.

Yeah I agree. It should be as offensive as the Nazi symbol, if not more. But for some reason it's not.

It's on the "bathroom uses you" toilet paper too. Thankfully it's quite small so it doesn't bother me that much.

You may need to upgrade your rar or 7zip extractor, this is a known problem with older extractors.
