Functional Percolators
When I was growing up, all coffee everywhere was made in a percolator - a cylindrical urn with a spout and a little glass bubble on the lid. Yet now, when I go looking for coffee-makers to put in a retro hood, all I find are bizarre contraptions unlike anything anyone I ever knew used, and the odd "camping coffee pot" that's deco only. Anybody know of anyone who's made one?

Are the 'Extra Pep Coffeemaker' and the 'Drip Drip Drip Little Coffeemaker by Kitchensations' not percolators? They look the same as when I Googled pictures of percolators. http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Coffeemaker

Found a few variants (not sure if all are functional, but a few of them probably are)

There's a TS4 variant here (from the game, in case of possible conversion)

If you want to go proper retro, maybe this one:

If this isn't what you're looking for, it might help if you post a couple of pictures if you're after some specific style. Here's some help from Google. Personally I'm only familiar with old stovetop coffee kettles (gran had one), and more modern coffee-making contraptions.

I'm attaching pics of genuine percolators. If it's in two pieces, I don't recognize it as a percolator. The urn that sits in a device that contains the actual coffee is a drip coffee maker, which didn't come in till the 70s and the Mr. Coffee machine. Percolators are filled with water and the coffee grounds are placed in a perforated cup (the name of which escapes me, but I used to wash them all the time) that sits at the top of the chamber on a pole that fits in a hole in the bottom.
The ATS and MTS ones fall into the category of "weird stuff I never saw IRL." I do have both of them, though; I'm using the ATS one for lack of anything better. There's also a bizarre "retro" coffeemaker here at MTS that at least isn't a Mr. Coffee and is recognizably of an acceptable time period. The TSR coffee urn is what you saw (and still see) in restaurants and church kitchens, but it's deco only. The TS4 one looks right but it's a) TS4 and b) deco. You see my problem. I have downloaded the espresso set, thank you. It's not really right and looks plastic but at least it'll make espresso (at least, I hope it does; it doesn't actually say), whereas the ATS one only makes coffee.

No, they're ordinary drip-style coffeemakers. A percolator doesn't have a separate carafe.
Coffee percolator at Wikipedia has a cutaway diagram.

Looks a little like an electric kettle to me. You may find something similar if you widen your search a little, looking for things like water boilers or tea kettles.
I did find something similar-ish, though I have a feeling it's just deco:

Water boilers and tea kettles aren't percolators - all they do is heat the water. The percolator makes the coffee. The kettle you linked to is cute but only deco and is plainly a tea kettle, not a coffee pot.
For what I want, a stovetop percolator would be best, as a few of the families in RetroPleasantSpot (the Lands and the Brokes, at minimum) won't have electricity or running water. But at this point anything that looks remotely right will do! I never had any hope of getting the distinctive noise a percolator makes.

I know the kind of percolator you're looking for, thought I had seen one over the years and searching doesn't show any. The problem I have with searching is pinterest, sims 3 and sims 4 showing up. I find this very annoying.

What I probably need to do is search for a tutorial that'll help me figure out how to turn the deco camping pot I have into a functional coffeemaker. Heck, I could make it an espresso machine while I'm at it, to reflect the notorious appallingly strong coffee people used to make. It should just be a matter of copying a few lines of code to the correct places, right?

@Peni Griffin thanks for giving back to me some wonderful memories of my grandmother and mother. The percolator of the picture to the far right is the exact one ( but a bit older looking ) I have, it was my grandmother coffee pot.
As a child I remember the sound and the good smell of the coffee ( I think it was Maxwell House Coffee in a big old can ) I think I will go to my storage and pull that percolator pot out., it still works. Gee this bring tears to my eyes but good tears.

I'm pretty sure you'd have to make a new object, not just copy some code. Tutorials here. (Very) Basically, you'd need to clone one of the functional coffeemakers in the game and replace the mesh/textures with the deco percolator mesh/textures. At least you already have a mesh to use, so you won't have to make one. It'll still have the drip machine's animations, but that's probably not a big deal.
If you decide to give it a go, I hope you'll share it; I could use a percolator for retro-Strangetown.
I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

If I can indeed do this (and it's a project I can do on the computer that's working as long as I can get the other one to stay up long enough to find and copy the file; SimPE actually runs better here than on the gaming computer), and can track down where I got it, and the TOU allows me to share, I will certainly upload it. I know I'm not the only retro player in the world and if I learn to do this other people may as well get it, too. It's not as if hoarding it would do me any good. I wonder, if I could somehow get a sound clip of the percolating in action, it would be possible to add that too? Yeah, one thing at a time...
Thanks for the direct link to the tutorial, which I hadn't gotten around to searching for yet. I'll make studying it my project for after I finish my chores today.
