This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default how to safely change npc clothing by summoning
I want to summon some NPCs, specifically, master vampires, but could be maids/gardeners/etc. Want to change their clothing and/or hair, then send them on their way. I want all clothing/hair available when I do this. I don't want to add them to any household. I DO want to modify what clothes they would bring with them if added to a household normally later. How do I do this, what objects/mods do I need? Thanks for any help!

I know this is noobish. I've been playing and making cc for years, just never messed with townies.

I use Christianlov's modded clothing rack for that sort of thing.

His older Gussy Up mod will do something similar when you click on any passing sim. This one was never updated to do Outerwear though. I found links for it at the following two Simbology threads.

@RoxEllen1965 - The clothing rack changes them, yay! I assume it does NOT add clothes to household closet of whatever residential lot it might be on, right?

What about summoning them to a lot so I don't need to wait for them to walk by? I recall something about a... summoning shrub? By Inge maybe? And other teleporters? Never used them, don't know which ones are best or safe. Don't want summoned sims added to households, just maybe temporarily controllable.

[edit] - I see the clothing rack can summon sims, but I still am curious about other summoning devices.

Unfortunately, I believe that the clothing rack will keep any clothes you buy for the townies in your household's wardrobe/closet. I'm not sure if Gussy Up works the same way since I only recently began to use it. I think it's safe to assume that if the option says "buy", the clothes will end up in your household's closet. At least you don't have to pay for it all (all Gussy Up purchases seem to be free and the Clothing Rack has an option to buy for free).

If you want an object that just teleports sims onto your lot, there are three that I use and recommend.

1) Inge's teleporter cat/shrub. Also has functions to turn playables into townies, etc.

2) TwoJeffs' Sim Blender has teleporter functions that work like Inge's. The Blender also has a lot of other useful functions. It's an old mod, but can be very helpful.

3) Paladin's Visual Teleporter. This used to be hosted at the now-defunct Simwardrobe.com. It's a yellow vase and uses the phone book interface. The categories are simple and obvious and make it very easy to find a specific sim. The "clear off" function doesn't always work right in my game, so you may want to use one of the other teleporters to get rid of your summoned townies once you're done with them.

For doing the Clothes I prefer the clothingtool.package from MATY here is a link to the AL all Hack Listing where it can be found in the list. Also for people like me who use Macs get it from the BV all Hack Listing

With the clothingtool one gets an object that looks like a pile of clothes and it works when sometimes Christianlov's modded clothing rack does not work like at a community lot or the secret university society lot, also it has a variety of other nifty options for clothes and will force the Sim's pic to get redrawn.

My fav teleporter is definitely Paladin's Visual Teleporter. It has pictures of the Sims, hence the Visual part of the name and it sorts them into Playable, NPC, Townie, etc. very easy to use. Also yeah to get rid of the ones you summon use The Sim Blender, it will get rid of any Sim that is not resident very easily along with a lot of other great features.

For making the summoned sim temporarily selectable I use Merola's Mind Control Mirror

Note: one can use The Sim Blender to make a Sim selectable, but it does not make the Sim as fully operational as one might want since sometimes you can't do what a Sim that you can control can ordinarily do when one uses The Sim Blender. With Merola's Mind Control Mirror the Sim that is made selectable can do anything a selectable Sim might ordinarily do.
