Default plugin for polygon reducing based on DirectX (Milkshape)
Hi,

I read something about a tool for reducing polygones in Milkshape.
I don't have this tool in my Milkshape.
Please, Could someone tell me where I can find it, how I'll use it.
I was googling about it but did'nt find anything very interesting.

Many thanks,
anouschka

I have it under the Tools menu, DirectX Mesh Tools.
The only plugins I downloaded and installed myself are for Sims, so I think this comes with Milkshape.

To use it, load a saved ms3d file of the mesh you want to reduce (after Import, I always save first), no need to select anything, then click on the tool.

Use the slider to midpoint or how ever many polys you want to reduced it to, then click the save icon with minus sign.

When its done, you can verify by going Tools --> Show Model Statistics and see the triangles should now be reduced to the amount you specified.

Then saved as under another name and you can import the low poly mlod over it

Many thanks for your response.
I didn't have many time for trying it but I found this. Is that what you meant?
Its name is Milkshape 3D Selection editor.

No, that's the selection editor. What you wanted is called "DirectX mesh tools". in my Tools menu it's between "Clean" and "Height map generator".

Anouschka, did you move/delete the .dlls from the Milkshape install path? That menu looks like it doesn't have any 3rd-party plugins. My Tools menu looks like the pic Wes posted above

The actual dll file for this tool is called msDirectXMeshTools.dll located in \Program Files\MilkShape 3D 1.8.5\ folder

I'm not sure how to get it other than re-installing Milkshape again.

Yes, Anouschka try a re-install, you also miss the SelPolycount and Clean option.
If that does not help, we can post the .dll files for you, but they should be included with the installation.

THANKS you Simmy people!
I think it didn't work since I got the non-trial version. I have to learn to work with new tools now.
