Default This is when the screaming started.....
Thanks again for everyone who helped with the graphics rule maker problem I was having.

The last time I bought a new computer was actually two years ago. I was about two days post mastectomy when it arrived, so my memory is a bit foggy. But I remember that I couldn't get my old info from the prior computer to associate itself with the new installation on the new one.

The same thing happened yesterday. I laboriously moved everything over, put it in its proper place, documents... and started the game. The game opened up really fast. I was impressed until I realized it was because it generated new folders, bypassing the ones I loaded. They're there, but they aren't in the documents folder anymore.

So, here's what I did last time. I made the YUGE mistake of calling micro$oft. The conversation did not go well. There was screaming. It may have been from me. By the end of the conversation I'd hurt feelings across the planet and my game was no longer visible to me at all. I'm not eager to repeat any of this.

Last time my sweet son took compassion on me and fixed it. But he's really busy now. His job is 24/7 and I know he doesn't have time to fool with my computer. He doesn't own a pc (lucky him) and he's not a simmer. Also, I won't see him for another week. And the complaining and eye rolling directed at me any time I ask him to do anything are not my favorite things in the world.

Any ideas?

You need to leave the EAGames folder and the "The sims 2" folder from the new installation alone (as in, don't move over the one from your old game), and only replace things inside the The Sims 2 folder. Also, make sure you're using the proper EAGames folder (C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2, NOT C:\Users\Public\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2)

- Make sure you've installed all the EP/SPs you had on the old computer, or you may run into some problems.
- If the newly installed "The Sims 2" folder is empty, it's the wrong one, forget about it.
- If the "The Sims 2" folder has contents after first run of the game (you may want to let the game run once before you move over the old files), you can now delete the newly generated files and move in your files.

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear. It must be the stroke. I did just replace the stuff in the old folder, but I replaced all of it. I'll try just replacing the downloads, lot cat, and neighborhoods and see whether that helps.

Thank you for your help! Fingers crossed!

**dances happily. Falls, of course, but stands back up and dances on** It worked!!!! Thank you so much! Going to go play now. :3

I'm glad everything worked out for you.

-and if I may say so it's reassuring to know that even the sweetest of people can get loud from time to time ;-)

You're kind, but I'm pretty sure the guy at micro$oft didn't think so.

Well, If the guilt is really eating you up, call them back and send an apology to the guy even If he isn't the only one that picks it up.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

I'm pretty sure the restraining order prohibits my doing that. :3

Also, he should be just about done with his therapy by now and I'd hate to set him back.

Don't worry, I have screamed at Microsoft too. Until I was able to talk to a super nice and helpful Indian MS employee, who immediately recognized and solved my issue instead of ignoring everything I was saying.

You have only screamed at Microsoft once? Although I don't have Sims 2 problems, they have driven me to screaming (and drinking) several times by now
