Well, Kotaku just published a whole article devoted to "'Pregnant Sims Can No Longer Brawl' And Other Amazing Sims Patch Notes",

Now, granted, Kotaku is hardly Pixar, and I certainly don't agree with our beloved game being ridiculous, but the patch notes do make for fun reading, so there is some entertainment value in EA's treatment of the game. And the walking laptop could be a perfect parody for The Walking Dead, although I do not believe EA owns that game, ................yet.

If a Sims movie is going to work, I'd suggest they take some pointers from The Lego Movie. That thing was nuts, but it worked. And since a Sims movie would also amount to just a 2-hour commercial, why not be shameless about it?
You can find me on the Sims 4 Gallery as DozerfleetProd. If you have XBox One or PS4, please test out my creations, and let me know if / how well they work on consoles.

This could actually be pretty cool honestly but I really think it would have to be an animated film. I can't think of how you'd be able to pull this off as a live action film. Though I definitely agree that they need to first get the glitches out of the games. To suddenly put all the money and focus into a movie rather than the games would be foolish. It would be more prudent to keep all focus on the sims games THEN worry about the possibility of a movie.

There's already a Sims-esque movie out there. It's called 'The Truman Show'.
Interestly enough, I wonder what the difference between that one and one made by EA would be.

Granted I have yet to see the Lego Movie, I really would like to though, the reason why I believe it was such a great success was because of the fact that it is such a classic toy, Most people have great memories of playing with them. My particular favorite were bionicles because I could pull the joints and other body parts apart and put them back together creating my own creatures. Because of this they have years of various Legos and memories to create off of, including stop motion films. The Sims franchise on the other hand is a "sandbox" game with a large populous of players but that doesn't give anyone enough of a "push off" to be able to come up with a plot let alone an entire hour long "at minimum" movie

Honestly a sims movie seemed more likely than a minecraft movie, yet they're making one. I'm curious to see how that turns out.

I remember years ago they started talking about a Sims movie that was apparently in the pre-planning stage. It sounded horrible.

Now I remember reading something about that it went through a lot apparently something about being stuck in a development limbo, i think that's the term for it. It was slated to be released back in 2012 which didn't happen obviously. But it was meant to be about some new guy moving to Pleasantview and he learned all of the soap opera like scandals going on like the love tangle and all of the lies or something But then the new guy learns that they're all in a video game being controlled by different people all over the world.
P.S. I heard about the MySims cartoon show which I thought would seem like a better alternative than an actual sims movie.

Yeah that sounds like just about the same plot that I heard about. :/ It sounded just awful.
MySims was the bomb. I'd happily watch a MySims movie/cartoon now that I think about it.

I'm just not sure how wide an audience would be interested in this. When I mention "The Sims" to friends and neighbors, I usually get that look that one gets when it's apparent your listener has no clue what you are talking about, but is trying to pretend he or she does.
I would lean toward an animated series, maybe incorporating the progression through all four (soon to be four, anyway) series. Even stick in the console games such as The Urbz. EA would certainly have forums like these from which to glean info. Or even have a RL person who finds himself or herself bouncing back and forth in an animated game world (think "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"), INCLUDING The Sims. That would attract more interest. (There might have been a movie about this already.)
(Great. Now I'm thinking of this as a Simspon-esque episode. Or a long music video. But still ... not a movie.)
But could a movie based on one game stay interesting for two hours? And again, to many audience members who would have no idea what EA is talking about?

I'm still waiting for my damn Bioshock movie, if another game is going to get turned into a movie, at least let it have some sort of storyline.
I agree that it's EA's 'money now, consequences later' attitude, to be honest the best thing to come out of The Sims is the community and the things that we make, yeah sure, thanks EA for the base game but we'll take it from here. There's probably tons of better fanmade shorts of The Sims than EA could even dream about making, I'd list a few if I wasn't such a scatterbrain and on mobile internet.
But if the atrocious idea does come to light, the only way I could see this going is like it's been said, an in-game person realizing they're actually in game. And I don't think that would make a good movie either.
But by all means, I'll run down my street naked if they manage to pull it off. That is, if it happens.

You've totally reminded me that I need to get the Moshi Monsters movie for my daughter. We missed it when it was on in the cinema.

I would potentially watch or work on a movie based on a glitched out videogame world where the characters are sentient and realise that they are being controlled. However, I think it would be best not to involve EA in its production at all, and to make it too general for them to have a claim on the premise. That way, the worst they can do is buy an international ad spot for theatre showings and piggyback on the idea. It would be fair, because it's one of the only games where you could exercise your fandom of the film. Maybe let them make the crappy tie-in game, too. I don't think our and EA's best interests could possibly gel in the making of such a movie. We would want too much twisted or critical content, and they would want a straight-up product plug that doesn't ask any difficult questions.
Oh yes, and a Scumthorpe movie would beat the heck out of any EA-made movie. It has to happen.

I could see myself watching a movie about Pleasantview.. Of course there would need to be many twists and turns, but hey! A short series could even work out; it could be something like Eastenders or Coronation Street!

Pleasantview is far too bright, pretty, sober and cheerful to be compared to British soap operas. Only one suspicious death and not a pub in sight.

i don't *want* a sims movie (but at the same time i'm curious???) but you're so right about dan harmon being the perfect person to do it.
