Default Crash analyzer says I need to upgrade my memory- problem solved
My game has been lagging since i installed WA and when I ran crash analyzer it says insufficient memory installed-upgrade your computer to have 4+GiB of memory. Does that mean the memory in my video card or RAM?

I bought University but have not installed it yet because I figured I would not have enough memory to play it.

We need some more information about your computer before we can help you out.

Go to your Start menu in windows, click "Run...", then type "dxdiag" without the quotes into the box that appears and hit Ok.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool should appear and read information from your system. This may take a few minutes. Once it's done, click the "Save All Information..." button on the bottom right corner of the window.

This will open another window asking you to save the information. Save it somewhere easy to find, such as your Desktop. Once it's saved, post the information here or upload the file.

That's really weird... It says you have more than enough memory in the specs you posted. It says you have 10GB of RAM, but that doesn't seem right to me. People usually have 6GB, 8GB, 12GB... First time I've seen 10GB. What kind of RAM sticks do you have in your computer?

I walked into best buy last year and told the computer guys that I wanted a gaming computer that could handle just about any of the popular games so yeah it has 10GB, looks like 2 4GB sticks and a 2GB stick.

and it is a 6 core processor, so i wasn't expecting the lagging after i installed WA earlier this year. I have not installed UNI yet. Do you think it is the video card that needs more memory: HD 6670 with 2GB.

2GB is enough. Is your game actually crashing? Or is it just laggy?

What version is your sims 3 exe file? Is it LargeAddressAware (version 0.2.0.188)? Maybe it didn't get patched (patch 1.17?) Some people didn't and had lags etc even with high spec computers.

it is just lagging, and it only started happening after I installed WA a few months ago. I have AM, LN, GEN, SEA, WA installed in that order.

Where do I find the version of the sims 3 exe file?

Well...your other issue could be you installed in the wrong order. Usually the game can get buggy if you don't install in the correct order. If Large address isn't the issue, install order could be or at least adding to it. Or maybe not.

Anyways, here's how to check for large Address:

Go to C drive, program files (x86), Electronic Arts folder, The Sims 3 folder, Game folder, Bin folder

In there their should be a file called TSRW, right click choose properties.
Go to the details tab.
Where it says file version there should be a number.
If it's large address it should be 0.2.0.188, if it's let me know.

Here's a screen shot of what you are looking for.

my file version is 0.2.0.190. What does that mean?

Are you saying that even if I bought WA last, I should have uninstalled all other EP's just to install WA first? Wouldn't I lose my saves if I did that? And wouldn't that take a while to reinstall all of those games?
Thanks for your help!

my system is 64-bit so according to the wiki I the large address aware issue is not a problem for me, although it suggest having more than 4GB of ram for best play, which I do have more than 4GB of ram. I am so confused, I went felt like I went overboard with computer specs so I could have all EPs with no lag, and now I still have lag. If this gets unbearable I may uninstall WA although I would hate that bc 1 of my families really got into, and go rich from making and selling nectar. EA page says install order isnt important for sims 3 just that the games are patched, but I guess I can always try reinstalling in release order just to see if it makes a difference. Any other thought on why my game is lagging? I also have delphy's desktop tool and it shows that I don't have conflicts with any CC.

Leave the install order if it sees to be working.

Let me try and explain.

Sims 3 is a 32 bit application it won't take advantage of the RAM. It can't it's 32 bit. However, more RAM will effect to some extent loading/saving and will help if you multitask while gaming.

This a quote by ella charmed from this thread might help explain. And if your wondering about RAM, this is a good thread to go to.

"If an application is not programmed to take advantage of the 64-bit architecture, and use 32-bit data types for 32-bit memory spaces and processing, then upgrading to 64-bit OS or adding more RAM for the sake of this 32-bit app alone has little benefit. Especially if the aim to upgrading is to utilize the increase in RAM. You do get a boost from the RAM upgrade when you multi-task while gaming or increase saving/loading times a tad bit just because the game does not have to swap back and forth between HDD, pagefile, and RAM too many times."

Another way to put this, from a different article:

"Other than the specific applications that hog your RAM, if you think bumping your RAM from 3GB to 8GB is going to increase the speed of a regular application-like a video game—you should think again. The only thing that additional RAM does is allow your computer to do more things at once, not actually make it faster. So if you normally have a few dozen windows open before you launch your video game, you'll see some speed improvement by upgrading, or you could just close a few apps."

But to note however from a graphics card stand point, you need more RAM.

The Sims 3 had a 2GB cap until a patch. Sims wiki used to suggest the method I'm linking to before the patch bumped it up to 4. Your number looks like it's LargeAddress... But it wouldn't hurt to run the steps if you want, just to try:
Here

Then try the game and if it still reoccurs could you take a screenshot of the Crash Log analyzer?

Also what's your amount CC like and what format?

My mods folder is 3.77GB, downloads folder is 13.8MB but there are a lot more sims3packs that have been installed via the launcher then deleted form the downloads folder when I transferred my game from 1 computer to this newer computer. I have not tried the Large address aware fix yet, maybe tomorrow, i just got an error 12 when I tried to save and quite so I will just quite with out saving and try again tomorrow. How much RAM do you think is necessary for the graphics card?

For an AMD 6670? You have plenty. I have a higher spec card and less RAM actually, so you are good, I mean your specs are great.

Do try the Large address. I've heard it can be one possible solution for error code 12.

A few things though:
Be sure to back up all exe files in a safe place.
Also make sure to apply it to every EP exe (those will be TS3EP#) also found in Game, Bin, just in the EP folder

They changed CFF explorer, so that wiki is a little out of date. I tested it. It's real easy. Just unzip the download, double click and patch the file of choice.

When you update/patch your game, you will need to copy the backup/original exe back to folder and replace the edited exe file. Then once your patched, make backups again and redo CFF Explorer.

Some info I found and might help you out. Turns out not all of mine are patched either (I checked). This has all EPs and SPs, but you only need to update EPs. This also has CAP and CAW on it as well as Spore and SimCity. (You can ignore those).

Anything saying false in the picture below is not Large Address Aware (this is a different program btw).

I'm going to be patching mine too I've decided, it won't hurt.

So...
Then you can test and see if anything is better after patching.

Some of the lag though might be related to you Mods folder. How many files do you have in there? Run dashboard, it'll tell you.

And in your DCCache folder how many dcdb#.dbc do you have? What's your highest number? Ex. dcdb7.dbc

Trying large address aware now.....

So after I did the large address aware i re-ran crash analyzer and received all of the same messages as above. Loading the game to see if anything I have done will make a difference in game play.

Q: do i really need to go back and do an incremental patch for 2.17? Somewhere around patch 1.33 or 1.34 I used the superpatcher and on the site it says not to use the incremental and the superpatcher together. That is why I have ignored the crash analyzer about updating WA to patch 2.17.

The WA patch issue is part of not installing in the correct order most likely and is probably adding to the problem.

Are you fully patched? 1.50?
What was the direct quote about this that you found and where was it from?

I think a good portion of your lag stems from your mods folder. It is recommended to have 100 files or less (these can be merged files)
How to merge package files here.
This should decrease lag.
A few tips, merge patterns separately.
Also run dashboard first.
Don't merge items you might change later ex. mods, defaults

I find when I get too many simpacks I get lag. I try to stay around 5-7 dbc files.

Default I think I solved my issue
From EA install order does not matter for sims 3, stated in this article
"Below is the release order for The Sims 3 and its following expansions. You will need the most recently released title's disc in order to play. The games do not need to be installed in this order, it is simply the order they were released."

The statement about the patches comes from the sims Wiki

"Select one, either the Incremental or the SuperPatcher, not both!

Incrementals would only patch from the previous version stated and is Region-specific. Choosing an Incremental from the wrong Region or the wrong "_from_xx.xx.xx" file is how most "Invalid File" errors occur.
SuperPatcher is cumulative update and contain all fixes from 1.2 onwards. And anything goes, ie would work on any previous version, of any Region. If you're the type who reinstalls a lot, I'd recommend just downloading the SuperPatcher. "

So I kept searching web and found other people with my problem, the game is not crashing, but giving error 12 and not allowing the game to save. It seems that the game is making alot of extra "trash" like duplicate images, and files called SNAP files, which you don't need. And even for 64 bit systems the Sims 3 game can really only utilize about 3.7GB of memory and the creation of these extra files is eating up that virtual memory. I had a look at my saves for this group of games and my save files were around 980MB, so I used Save Cleaner V2 by Kuree at Simlogical this program will delete the SNAP files. This allowed me to save my games, but the saves were still big. So I went to NRaas wiki this page that suggested deleting IMG files from the TravelDB file. That cut my save file size 40-50%.

Hope this is helpful to someone else!
