TS3-- Looking for Testers for my Tomb lot
I already posted this in the creator feedback forum, but I was told I might be able to get a better response here, so I'll just copy and paste that thread here--I'm looking for volunteer testers for a tomb lot I've been working on. I tested it myself, and all the links match up properly, but I also want to know how anyone who doesn't know exactly how to complete it, feels about it before I try uploading it to MTS.
If anyone is willing to try it out, here are some questions I have for them:
-Is anything too difficult to figure out?
-Is anything too easy?
-How many sim hours did the adventure take as a whole?
-Are there any problems you're having with it?
-Is there anything I could change to make it better?
I should also let you know that I've used no store content or custom content, but I have used all EPs except ITF, UL, and Showtime. Also, I will also say that this tomb lot is pretty big, and it's more difficult than any EA ones in the sense that some actions may render it un-completable -- so watch your step!
(Some of this tomb lot may or may not be loosely inspired around a certain retro style adventure game from 1989 :})
This is my first tomb lot, so I haven't used the processor for any linking, (I actually just discovered there is a processor less than a day ago) so if you know of an easier way to set up any links for certain puzzles I have in my adventure lot, please don't hesitate to let me know for the future.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could take some of their time to try it out and give me feedback.

I tried to test your tomb lot, but did not have tremendous success. I think I picked a super dumb sim (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)
First, the house is great!
In the closet at the top of the left stairs, my sim was aflame and couldn't get out. Bye first sim, RIP.
Next, Sim2 opened all the walls that have photographs in front, a very lovely and clever idea. I really like how peering through the windows lights the adjacent rooms.
Moved the statue to the spot on floor- success!, but it seemed to open a few things and happened so quickly I am not sure what happened.
Dumb Sim2 could not find any objects needed to open the locked doors. Somehow they stumbled into the basement through the outside door.
They were shocked, over and over again, passed out, recovered, found the kitchen and restocked.
Finally I teleported them through the yellow tiled maze, and then they got lost in the real maze.
Adventure ends when I teleport DumbSim3 home.
I haven't played a tomb in a long time, so maybe I missed some very obvious stuff, but I couldn't figure out much of the tomb. I think the flaming closet of death might need a stronger warning, or way out, or shower in a can or something, because that was bad, funny, but bad. It was a bit hard to see in the basement, at some parts because of the lighting, and then at the parts where the maze was very narrow. My sim kept having routing fits in the maze. Many townie sims kept trying to get in and were reset by the game.
I would be happy to give it another go, but I definitely need a hint or two.

Hahaha, don't enter the closet! It only leads to bad things.
The flaming death closet is just the right amount of evil to be funny, so I simply can't make it more obvious ahahahha. This is what the sims that don't read all the signs get! *evil villain laugh*
You gotta stay in the darkness for the basement maze, and then comes the catacombs. Did you answer the puzzles? Just PM me wherever you're stuck and I could give you a hint to help you along, but on the off chance that anyone else wants to test out my tomb (which at this point is very unlikely) I wont give any spoilers away here. Also, I'd replace your lot with the one now currently in the download above. It's named the same thing, but I've made some major fixes.

I love tombs, but I never play them much or seek them out. I should probably seek them out more. I meant to check this out much right after you posted. But I forgot. (I browse MTS on my phone, and if there's something I want to check out or reply to, I'll do it later when I'm on the desktop. But that often leads to me forgetting stuff, or not bothering with commenting or whatnot. I'm a terrible person, I know.)
Anywho, I did check this out. And I'm going to spoiler my experiences, so far.
Cross bridge. For whatever reason, when I was on the bridge, I was able to "go here" to the other side and completely ignored to fire trap.
Read plaque by door, looted, entered house.
Mourned urn, unlocked bar, looted.
Read plaque.
Checked out the hidden doors and used the "look through" on the peep windows there--which by the way is awesome.
Moved statue, unlocked lounge and dining room, checked out lounge, noticed you could not loot the gems on the mantle. (Now cause I got further, I might suggest a plaque in that room that could say "What cannot be taken is often noteworthy." Was a bit miffed at myself that I hadn't paid more attention, when called out for guessing later.)
Checked out dining room, read plaque--unlocked cellar, correct? Looted kitchen chest, noticed side porch, and looted the chest there.
Mourned all the graves and looted them. Looked in barn.
Looked around upstairs, got zapped. Checked out hidden rooms and peep windows. I had read attuned's experience. Have not opened closet, but there is a plaque there that warns as well. SO maybe not there on the first version?
Went down into cellar. I love how the cellar is accessed. Very clever, and quite realistic. LOVE IT.
Used restroom. (I think a toilet prior to this one would be nice.)
Read plaque, went through star path maze, and three hidden side rooms there. Maze was a little long and tedious, but not bad.
Got the eye pieces from one of the hidden rooms. (I realize now that I should have dropped/"put down" one, like near the front door, so I could avoid some of the back tracking that I'll do later. Which is one of my complaints so far, is that there are not back exits in the different sections.)
Loot catacombs. Open stairs down.
Guess at first puzzle room. (See above.) Go through next puzzle room, unlock stairs to mausoleum.
Go into mausoleum, loot the one wall crypt. (Love the stone-ified pictures for the wall crypts--clever!) Did not find/have keystone for inside crypt.
Took stairs down in catacombs. Read plaques, solved both arrow rooms. Moved statue to plate. Found hidden room in water jet room, continued around to keystone. Used keystone in statue/plate room. Got chest in room off fire room. Went through last door in fire room, up the stairs stood on plate. Unlocked music room, right? Memory hazy. Is this where it said that two doors on the ground floor were now unlocked? I thought that odd since I only had one door still locked there. Unless it was counting the bathroom off of the music room. I dunno.
Went to music room, turned on television and phonograph. Unlocked barn.
Went to barn, read plaque, unlocked well.
Descended unto well. Cleared rubble, found loot, hidden room, looted chest. Entered rainbow room. Solved rainbow room. (Which was neat.) Ascended stairs, went through dive well.
Looted bedroom, acquired star key. Think attic stairs unlocked here, maybe. BACKTRACKED out of well. (Should have utilized eyes here, I know.)
Use star key on back bedroom. Looted one thing and am now stuck.
Found pullable torch in first mantle gem puzzle room. Hidden room, looted.
Still stuck.
Overall this is way longer and more involved than I expected, but who know what I was expecting... I had no expectations going in.
EDIT: More experiences.
Found pullable torch in second gem puzzle room. NRAAs makes finding stuff a pain, since you have the gear for all walls. Just saying.
Anywho, hidden hallway, hidden wall into room with rubble and statue. Cleared rubble, looted chest, FOUND HEART KEY. Moved statue to plate-no idea what that did.
Enter bedroom with heart key, loot, take charm key.
Use charm key on door in attic. in first dive well room in attic rubble inaccessible and can't be cleared. Take dive well to room with two dive wells, clear rubble, loot three chests. Take other dive well to next room, clear rubble. Enter little hall.
Read plaque for clue. Find hidden door, enter corner room with bed, loot.
Go through double doors to "fruit" room, solve. Solve next room.
Six statue room. Statues are all on activated plates when I enter. Clue has 12 numbers, all plaques have 13 letters. Anywho, I think it's the second plate/statue, but for the life of me I don't know how to reset the plates to inactive. Try various combinations. Try all statues off plates, cept 2, try only statue 2 on a plate. Repeat for other combinations. However plates remain activated no matter what I do.
Think stuck again. :P
I've been testing this with cheats on and needs static, btw. However my dude had 6 in athletic skill, and he's been able to attempt to cross all the fire traps successfully. If i manage to get through it all, I'll run it without needs static, on a prepared adventurer stocked with some food and a tent/sleeping bag.
I realize my log has been a bit walkthrough-y, and possibly more detailed than needed, but just want to be sure I'm not by-passing/missing something or just going through in the unintended way. I can move this to PM if you wish. Also I don't know what video game this is referencing--would be curious to know. :D

@cutsocks Thanks so much for testing it and the in-depth response!
I also discovered some issues with floor plates and had to replace those, and I guess the same issues are occurring with ones in the attic. I will fix that asap.
Also, ahah, my fault 100%, but the only heart keystone is supposed to be found in a different section. You mentioned that you unlocked the bedroom on the right side of the hallway and got stuck. There's a plaque on the wall in the rightmost room that triggers something. I suppose I can put the plaque somewhere more obvious.
The 'two doors have been unlocked' was also a mistake I had not realized. Originally, the puzzle about the mantle gems could only be solved if one looked through the windows in the secret passages, and the two doors were the music room and the living room/lounge, but I scrapped that idea, figuring it might be too difficult.
Thanks again for the response! It really helps a lot.

YAY!
Your new changes/fixes make it all flow so much better.
Noticed you could just stand on the plate in the main hall for the lounge and the dining room. (I'll understand why later.)
Everything ran pretty much the same until I hit the rocking chair bedroom.
Was now a wall hole to interact with there.
Without any issues, rocking chair bedroom -> bathroom -> attic bedroom -> two single bed bedroom -> adjacent bedroom -> bell tower -> hall statue -> fairy statue garden -> penguin labyrinth -> spider room.
The spider room was a little screwy. I think I was supposed to walk on the red hourglass to trigger the first plate, maybe? But what I did do was move the statues around randomly breaking the fire traps and eventually the first plate popped up. Moved all statues to plates. Wall hole appeared, and my dude threw a route error fit. (The two statues by it, I think are just too close.) So I had to move a statue, however that kicked me back to my home lot for some reason. But I was able to go back, eventually get a statue off a plate without breaking the chain, and use the wall hole. I did get the chest in the room to the spider's left side (according to how she is facing), and it looked like there was one to the spider's right side as well, but I couldn't figure out how.
From there it was to the mausoleum with the keystone -> pink bedroom -> attic -> dive well room (yay reachable rubble!) -> fruit room -> other word puzzle room ->
And then stuck at the six statue room. Once again all the plates were already activated. So unless there is some weird trick that I'm just not getting, I'd suggest going with stand-on plates like the previous two rooms.
Other things I did.. grabbed a chest through a hidden passage on the way to the penguin hedge labyrinth and I scattered hay in the barn for a loot hole.
I'm having a blast testing this for you, btw. I've made one, medium-smallish tomb before, so I have an idea how complex these things can get, but yours is so massive, I can't imagine how confusing it looks in build mode. (And I'm not peeking.)

The spider room is absolutely gorgeous. I LOVE going through tombs and then this grand impressive room unexpectedly opens up to you. Granted, the door to it was a bit of a hint, still I go in and I'm all like Woah. AWESOME!

Ah! Those statues are still giving you a problem? Yeah, I guess replacing the statues with step plates is the best option. I thought I finally figured out the problem, but I suppose not..
Thank you for all the compliments too haha :}
Previously, the hole in the wall of the rocking chair bedroom was hidden, and could be unhidden by reading a book from the bookshelf, but I figured it was a bit too obscured, considering that would be the only bookcase in the entire lot that triggers something, and there are lots of bookcases.
And yes, the hourglass was where you need to walk to trigger the first panel. Should I change that? I might change that.
EDIT: I moved the pressure plates farther apart so they weren't blocking the hole in the wall in the spider room as well. Thanks
It did indeed turn out to be pretty massive.. it sure was fun doing all that linking ahahaha.

Seriously!?!? LOL! The first time around in the rocking chair bedroom I interacted with EVERYTHING except the bookcase! I always knew certain things can be attached as triggers, and, of course, using the TV and phonograph in the music room really got me touch more stuff the usual. My dude keeps gussying himself up in mirrors for all that sexy treasure he's finding.
I was probably too excited to smash traps with statues in the spider room to properly think what I was doing (I was also a bit on auto-pilot for much of the stuff before since I had just done it the day prior). You can always toss in more flavor text wall plaques from the detective with light hints. Actually the more you toss in all over the place, the ones with actual hints become less obvious and will make a player think more.

Update: Silly me, I updated the post with the same version and deleted the fixed version by mistake.. Maybe giving them the same name wasn't the best idea hahaha. It's fixed now :}

I've been wondering about doing a tomb for my Angkor Wat inspired world. What tutorials did you follow?

Oh, I just looked around google when it came to something specific I was trying to do. ign's tutorial was probably the most helpful, as it includes details about most of the things that can be done. It's kind of one of those things, that once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier.
I still don't know how to use the processor, but I hear that it can go a long way in making different things happen in tombs that can't be achieved normally, so depending how much time you're willing to put into your tomb, and how easy/hard those mechanisms are for you, that might be a good thing to look into. I personally didn't. I found it really complicated, plus I only found out about them after nearly finishing the tomb's construction.

Holy Cow Kylaaab, this is some tomb!
Thoughts
Perhaps include a warning about how lower end computers may not be able to handle this lot, based on how long the lot takes to place in the world.
A shower would be lovely, since your sim is going to get singed. Perhas the sink in the basement can be replaced with a shower?
Did you know this mod will let you place any item on commercial or residential lots, and downloaders do not need it in their game (thinking about the grill in the kitchen): Buzzler's Builder Stuff, specifically the Build/Buy Restriction Chocker: http://www.modthesims.info/d/450059/builder-stuff.html
Funny how I would like a stronger warning on the flaming closet of doom, and cutsocks would like no warning.
Not gonna lie, read all of cutsocks spoilers, because of my disadvantage of having extremely dumb sims. Forgot all about mourning at graves and remains- that was a good hint. I still didn't find a single key. I could see some of them in locked rooms, but no joy.
This confused me- can sims climb down into the well, or only up, out of the well? My sim couldn't find a way through the gate, and then couldn't climb down.
I still couldn't find a way to turn off the flames and electricity throughout the maze- help!

Thoughts Perhaps include a warning about how lower end computers may not be able to handle this lot, based on how long the lot takes to place in the world. A shower would be lovely, since your sim is going to get singed. Perhas the sink in the basement can be replaced with a shower? Did you know this mod will let you place any item on commercial or residential lots, and downloaders do not need it in their game (thinking about the grill in the kitchen): Buzzler's Builder Stuff, specifically the Build/Buy Restriction Chocker: http://www.modthesims.info/d/450059/builder-stuff.html Funny how I would like a stronger warning on the flaming closet of doom, and cutsocks would like no warning. |
I can definitely include a shower in the cellar. Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't even thought of fixing the singing. singe-ing? idk ahah, but that is a great idea. :}
I will also leave a warning for the lower end computers. It is a very massive tomb, I admit, so it's understandable that there are some performance issues with some computers.
Also! That's amazing I had no idea a mod like that existed! I will definitely take an advantage of that to place a real stove in the kitchen. That will make things more realistic instead of having a grill inside.
Now to the tomb spoilers!
For the maze with all the electric and fire, a lot of 'go here' and 'attempt to cross' is needed. All the light colored panels are non-disarmable traps, so you gotta stick to the darkness and cross the fire traps to get through the maze.
The well is a part of the tomb that can only be opened after completing a different part of the tomb. I made it so that no one can skip ahead by locking the gate and triggering it to open when some other stuff happens ehehehe.
