Sneak Preview of Project CRUMB
Greetings, simmers! Here at MTS we've had some great stuff in the works for a while, and we're very excited to finally share a preview for our brand new tutorial browser system, Project CRUMB.
WHAT IS CRUMB?
Create (upload tutorial), Read (view tutorial), Update (edit screen) and Many Browse
MTS has tons of information about modding the sims. And apart from MTS, there's innumerable tutorials spread across other platforms like tumblr and other sims sites. Having so much information available to creators is great, but finding the right tutorial can be difficult when things are spread all across the internet. That is what CRUMB is intended to solve: it will be a single, centralized index of tutorials and modding info from all platforms, offering a user-friendly browsing interface which can be filtered and searched by game, software used, kind of modding, and more.
Uploading a tutorial
Tutorials can be uploaded to MTS, or added to the database from any external website. During the uploading process the submitter is asked to tag the tutorial so that it can be easily found. For example:
Browsing tutorials
All the tutorials will be categorized in the tutorials browser, so you select what you are looking for using the filters. For example, you can select TS3 tutorials, which use Blender, and are focused on object meshing.
Preview Tutorial Browser
Reading a tutorial
Tutorials which are hosted on MTS will be viewable in a brand new tutorial viewer. In addition to the new overview layout, the tutorials are shown in a tabbed view for easy navigation.
Looks awesome! When's this happening?
Project CRUMB will launch on June 14th, 2017. We are looking forward to seeing everyone's submissions!
18 users say thanks for this.
(Who?)
Thanks

Sounds good! If we've already posted tutorials, will we need to update them to work with this, or will they just be incorporated into it automatically?

GREAT! I've been working on a tute for S2 split-level houses. It kinda stalled because I'm not sure how to upload a tutorial - this may be just the kick-in-the-seat I need

Not to be a party pooper or anything, but putting "Project" in front of anything at all makes it sound more exciting than it has any right to be. Not saying you should reconsider the name, but it wouldn't hurt. I was kind of expecting that it'd be some sort of multiplayer mod for TS2 or like a Frankenstein-d remake of some shelved Sims game that you pulled off EA's internal servers with your l33t h4x0r skillz.

@Zarathustra - I'll have to double check with @Delphy , since he's the brains behind this project. I'm honestly not certain if tutorials posted to MTS will be automatically vworped into the system or not. I'm just the person who writes news posts, and periodically prods D with a stick to make sure he's alive and still working.
Also, I'd just like to leave this here:

Rejected names included:
I'm no longer in charge of giving things names....but hear me out!
"Operation: Find That $#@!" made sense because it dealt with finding tutorials.
"Tactical Kitten Gifs" because who doesn't like cat gifs? I certainly don't.
"Divine Secrets of the Klingon Sisterhood" is the classic tale of hilarious sadness set in a sleepy Klingon parish. A group of lifelongfriends fighters stage a rather unorthodox intervention to help a young playwright unravel the truth about her complicated, eccentric warrior mother, find forgiveness and acceptance honor, and let go of her painful past.
"The Sean Connery Experience" would have just been an excuse to do Sean Connery impressions and quote things from the celebrity Jeopardy SNL skits.
I don't mind if you call me "MSD" or something for short.

Damn, Divine Secrets of the Klingon Sisterhood sounds way better than the boring human version of that book.
MSD is in charge of all project names from now on.

You, my friend, are seemingly wholly unaware of the concept of marketing. Words don't carry meaning; they carry feelings. Words carry associations. Projects aren't meticulously planned, they're mysterious and exciting. Projects are tested in wind tunnels. Projects promise "experiences". Experiences bring the user in touch with their inner personality. Anything can be a project, as long as it's exciting and hella mysterious.
You should call it something like TutoREAL or something. I came up with that in 3 seconds, and it's already better. Maybe call it SimDidact. It's a place you can drop tutorials - call it Dropt. And if you set up a website, always make sure the TLD checks out with the last two letters like YouTu.be or Redd.it. Speaking of projects that aren't what they were made out to be: Project V.ie.

Sadly, I'm not in charge of project names anymore. Or whatever they are, since apparently they're not projects. Go see if you can persuade MSD. And do it someplace else. Will not be accepting any more debates about the name in this thread.
I will, however, be accepting further suggestions for Klingon versions of popular fiction and classic literature. To get the ball rolling: The Gagh Worms of Wrath, Anna Klingonina.
ETA: A Brave New Worf.
ETA again: A Farewell to Bat'leths. Someone stop me.

As a total noob, I love this. I have spent too many hours searching for the specific tutorial I need. Especially frustrating is discovering the one that sounds perfect leads to a dead link, and I hope those lost tutorials can be reuploaded here. I have one request: once upon a time all the CEPs in existence were on MTS (on that page or one of its previous incarnations). That is emphatically no longer the case. Could there be a section in the project that lists and makes available in one place all the CEPs that have been made since Numenor's last update?

I know absolutely nothing about Klingon except for the fact that Kirk's accent is apparently exactly the same as Klingon Emmett Brown's.

Another suggestion (can you tell I'm super enthusiastic about this?) When coding the links page can there be a listing by problems? Like, to use my current dilemma, "Texture is too dark/light", which would link to one or more tutorials that address the issue? Often and often the name of the tutorial doesn't quite convey the information it contains. I think many simmers would find a problem list very user friendly.

A project is like a wip, it's not finished. I would like to see my project of posting this tutorial finished the moment I posted it. I would rather not go back later on, for that reason I'm voting for "Operation: Find That $#@!", if we do have a vote that is. I might also be me not liking projects, the word that is, for some reason it sounds like an unwanted chore or something.
The other options are either bloody dated or makes no sence to me whatever.
"The Sean Connery Experience" ... I mean like what! lol, how old are people on this forum, and what the heck does it mean. "Operation: find this shit" is what I do all day: google, search and find the wrong shit most of the time.
I also like voting for the best tutorial, because it's probably going to end up with tons of unwanted shit very fast, if it takes on. Better prepare for bunch of shit than having to sort that out later on.

Bloody mods couldn't get it right, either. It's obviously "The Sean Connery Exschperiensh".

I wish this thread would stay on topic, assuming it's going to be the focus for collaborative efforts.

This will be immensely helpful. Oftentimes, I go looking for a tutorial on something, and will find a great one, but it will use Blender or another program I have no experience with. In which case, I spend more time translating the working terms than I do actually working on the project. Even more unfortunate, I use 3DS for most projects sims and other, and it's not at all a popular tool to do sims-meshing because it's so expensive. I have the student product, though, and have gotten too comfortable with it.

I'm not sure how you'd actually categorise "Texture is too dark/light" though - how would you normally find that? If you can't categorise it, then it makes listing it difficult.
Story books are full of fairy tales, of Kings and Queens, and the bluest skies.

Well, the tutorial "viewer" is like the old articles system. It basically takes an existing thread and formats it in a new way. So it's technically possible to have old tutorials be viewable in the new system - the only thing they'd need is the appropriate games/tools/etc/etc added which can be done after the fact.

I pretty much don't care what it's called as long as it exists. But for the record, "A rose by any other name is 'Operation: Find That $#@!'". (That's in the original Klingon version of Romeo and Juliet. Look it up!)

I was thinking a system akin to the medical symptom finder where a list of symptoms links to possible causations. In like fashion, a list of problems links to the tutorial most likely to address that specific issue. For example, in the Object Creation - Recolouring forum, @mustluvcatz linked me to the TXMT tutorials by @Pixelhate. I had no idea they were applicable to my problem, and I would not have sought them out on my own, but they are really helpful. Another example, "Texture looks one-dimensional" might link to tutorials on shading and on bump mapping. Does that make sense?

I like the idea. It's better structured than what most sites do, even if there is still, in my opinion, improvements to do.

I was going to say that that would be a good idea under the condition that the tutorial in the language other than English would be deliberately written in that language. But then I remembered that you can't accidentally speak a language. Even if it's Spanish or something. Spanish always seems accidental to me. It's just not a language that anyone would speak while entirely level-headed. Kinda like Russian or something.
Tell you what though, you can be an accidental asshole. I'm living proof right here. What should have been a brief attempt to convey the great aesthetic value and coherency of such fine languages as French, German, Dutch, Swedish or maybe Thai or whatever, ended up sounding more like some niche kind of linguistically motivated racism.

This sounds great; thanks for everything you guys do for Sims players!
I made a Starfleet career for The Sims 3, and I'd love to port it to The Sims 4, but I haven't found any good tutorials for Sims 4 careers. I wait with bated breath to see if you guys turn one up!
I've made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at http://corylea.com/Sims1ModsByCorylea.html
