Indeed, piano concerti are my bread and butter. Or used to be, anyway. I do a lot more studio work than concert work nowadays, and concerti don't figure into that much. But yep, a good chunk of them have the up-down-up structure.  But then, so do a lot of symphonies. Perhaps it's because many composers were bipolar. Me, I'm a Beethoven girl. His third piano concerto is my "signature piece," if I have one. I love sitting there for the first three minutes while the orchestra plays. Anyway, at the moment, I'm listening to George Michael's cover of Elton John's "Tonight"...which coincidentally has a lovely piano part for a pop song.

I have the highest admiration for the music makers - they make life worth living. I have a great recording of the the 5 Beethovens - Russell Sherman, Czech Philharmonic, Vaclav Neumann. Listening to Nina Simone, Pastel Blues, Tell Me More and More and Then Some. |
