Round 3 Entry - The Grunts
The Military keep meticulous records, so it didn't take long for the General to relearn his name, rank and top-secret assignment as leader of the global defense forces against the imminent alien invasion. An invasion that can only be a few weeks away now, given their audacity in abducting the General.Which gives the General something of a problem. As a conscientious if somewhat bemused single parent, how can he disappear off into a military bunker and leave his boys to face the alien menace alone? The possibility of acquiring Number 1 Tesla Court suggested a solution. Have the bunker at home!
A good many top-secret modifications later, the house doesn't just LOOK like a fortress, it IS one! It has a barbed wire fence, guard dogs and CCTV to deter visitors. Loopholes have been added to the tower (which also houses a top-secret teleportation device looted from a crashed Saucer, for quick access to the roof.) The entrance to the bunker is through a secret door in the General's office, which the boys are forbidden to enter without his permission. They are also strictly forbidden to go up onto the roof, where they might see the anti-Saucer missile launchers.
Now the house is ready to move into. It isn't pretty, the general doesn't do pretty, he does functional! The living quarters are adequate and comfortable, and each boy has his own room. The General has made sure to include a gym and a shooting range. Judging by their lack of body and mechanical skills, the General has been lax in the past about insisting the boys train, but that has to change! He will do his best to get them skilled up enough to survive the invasion.
In their private spaces, the members of the household can show their own characters. The General has a private music centre, where he can secretly listen to his barbershop collection. The boys decorated theirs according to personality (Tank chose the same colour scheme as his father).
Buck's favourite part of the house is outside, where the new household members Demon and Hagar will soon be installed. He has already privately renamed them Huggles and Snuggles and plans on breaking down their military training with lots of love, fuss and treats, until they refuse to be seen in public without their diamante collars and red laquered toenails.
Lastly is the room the General hopes never to need, but expects to be occupying all too soon.

I would really much want to know how things are going. Very worried, Jo did mention at 6th that "it" will be extended , by that I assume the deadline for entries.
Current timer says only over a day time left, and getting really worried here. I may be the weirdo who likes to see comments of the judges first before finishing the build

Guys I am still snuffling, coughing and deaf in one ear with only 3 score templates done, so don't worry about getting things in 'on time', time went out the window on this round. I am so sorry you do not yet have your scores and comments, but I didn't feel up to the coding that these tables take. I will try and do some more today.

Entry end dates are always after scores, to ask for them before would be rather unfair I think. I can say I now have 6 tables done-so yah progress.

Guys! Scores!
I will post my comments tomorrow but figured you would all be hanging out for scores by now.
Notes from Judge 3
Judge 3
Remarks
General
The devil is in the details when it comes to building competitions. A tiny forgotten thing may cost you a place — or a win. Look carefully at each room before you post.
The Grunts and their gym reminded me of something. The exercise machines may work when they are against a wall, since a sim can use them — but they are not fully working, since the repairman (that is why he leaves!) cannot fix them. (I have not deducted points for that, I will, in the future). Also make sure that the exercise equipment can be used by the age group in your house.
Some of you still have large, empty spaces — and that is hard to forgive when there is plenty of money left.
Remember the family. The family is part of the contest; their personalities need to be reflected. And some of you nailed it, like simsample — that Beaker house is easily the creepiest thing I have ever seen. For the Grunts, I thought muridae did an outstanding job. Many of you did very well, but other houses, even if gorgeous, could just belong to anybody. Adding one item is not always enough.
Use the budget wisely. To me, the budget for this round is more than adequate to look at the proper fulfilment of basic needs. Bedrooms are important! Even if you can’t use wall paper to reflect a sim’s personality, a bedroom should at least be comfortable and attractive. Sims need to sleep well too. And a romance sim needs a double bed. A teenager’s room needs something to make it individual (at least in the eye of the teen). Try to avoid neglecting any room.
Some of you have done everything right again — it is just that another contestant may have done it better.
Some of you have improved already — keep up the good work.

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 24 | Art Deco is my favourite period! I really think you’ve captured the essence of the period in your build- well done! I like all the different levels that you have created. Some of the areas seem rather empty though- especially the entry hallway on the first floor. I like your landscaping. |
Judge Two | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 23.5 | Nice modern look. It could have done with a bit of terrain paint or something at the back- which looked quite barren. I'm not sure two adult female Sims would want to share a double bed (what happens when Chloe invites a friend overnight?). You had enough room for another bedroom or two (requirements are for a minimum of two bedrooms). Not sure that a mask wall hanging equates with psychic powers or that simply having a double bed means romance. A better use of space this round. |
Judge Three | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 4 | 23 | This is another beautiful house inside and outside. Yet making a sim share a room with a romance sim is bad enough but a bed as well is very unfair to the non-romance sim! Lola will have to make some sleeping room for herself in her study. The personalities of the girls don’t show for me - example: I don’t think a mask is enough for Erin who is a social sim as well. |

Judge One | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 5 | 21 | I like all the little touches that you have put into the house- especially Buck’s room. I do feel you could’ve done more with the exterior and build of the house and it needs some more landscaping in my opinion. |
Judge Two | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 23 | I don't like that shade of green and brown together for the exterior. Not a bad layout. The hallway between the bedrooms looks a bit narrow. The table in the kitchen is really small for four Sims - there was space for a bigger one. Is the TV watchable at an angle? The general's obviously not into gardening but I would've liked a bit more landscaping. Great job with requirements. Suitably decorated bedrooms (the General's is my favourite). |
Judge Three | 4.5 | 4 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 22.5 | I love Buck’s drawings and the boys’ rooms inside. The television set should be against a wall (it needs a plug) Outside the swimming pool needs a bit of life; perhaps with a hammock-lounge chairs-a plant. The BBQ area could be more of a feature- the BBQ is quite far away from the tables. The BBQ area closer to the pool could also make a huge difference. Work on the details in the next round. |

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 24 | Absolutely love the build- especially the tower and the garden with its assault course! The entry/lounge area seems rather sparsely decorated and furnished. I love Ripp’s drum kit and Buck’s collection of dog leads — so cute! |
Judge Two | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 24 | A suitably military-looking establishment with the tower- fencing and flagpole. I love the assault course- especially the trench - great job. There's a fair bit of empty space in the ground floor lounge area. The walls look a bit sparse in the dining/kitchen/bathroom. Perhaps a picture or mirror (they've gotta shave- right?) Great job. |
Judge Three | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | Nailing the military house in my opinion. One of my favourites in this round. Some empty spaces- especially in the room where the entrance is- but a lovely job overall. The outside is perfect; the landscaping too. Also- a supremely playable house. |

Judge One | 4 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 23 | I really love your interior and the reasoning behind it all. I am not so keen on the exterior — it doesn’t grab my attention. Perhaps try and use two different coloured exterior wallpapers that contrast or complement each other so that it adds a bit more interest next time What I do like is the little garden ‘alcove’ that you’ve created. |
Judge Two | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | Cosy looking house. I really like the kitchen. I also loved the seating nestled between the rocks and the enclosed pool. Not sure about the lifesaver on the outside wall since there's presumably no sea nearby. A souvenir? Or is one of them not a good swimmer? Perhaps a bit of landscaping or terrain paint around the rest of the house. Great job with the requirements |
Judge Three | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 22 | The house looks good- the garden too. The entrance inside is very pretty. I would like a romance sim to have her own room and bed. The pool table does not have enough space around it for a proper sims game of pool. I would like to see a table and seating at the BBQ — sims can BBQ and eat without those but it will look a lot better (even a table where you can put the food on and a bench and chair or 2 benches will work.) |

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | I think I see GREEN! A little too much green maybe? I love your interpretation of this lot- especially utilising the roof area. The Ferrari bedroom is lovely and so is Jill’s aquarium in her bedroom. I think you covered all bases! |
Judge Two | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | another astounding job - so lush! I love the idea of the towers as playground. I'm glad the dolphins are only in Jill's imagination or it would be too cruel in the pool. Fantastic 'aquarium'. I took a half point off this time as I think curtains right next to the stove could be a fire hazard (theoretically of course). |
Judge Three | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | You put a lot of hard work in here and it is a lovely house so I feel a bit guilty for deducting half a point- but I felt a bit overpowered by all the yellow. I feel some of the flowers should be in other colours — lilac or light blue comes to mind — especially with that bright yellow walls. It would look more like a natural garden- worthy of a pollination technician who probably knows something about artificially pollinating flowers as well! The rest is perfect. |

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 4 | 4.5 | 23 | Wow just wow I love the build of this house. It has so much kerb appeal! I quite like the décor and deco objects that you’ve used internally as well. I do feel that there is a lot of unused space on the ground floor which makes the upper floor look a little cramped. I’m not sure that two adults would want to sleep in bunk beds. Also are the loungers useable on the diagonal? (note from Jo- no they are not) |
Judge Two | 5 | 5 | 4 | 3.5 | 4.5 | 22 | Really nice aspect. An original design. Love the greenhouse. I'm not sure adult female Sims would want to share a bunk- especially Lola. Again the requirements are a minimum of two bedrooms and I think there was plenty of space to add bedrooms and let them have their own space. The mustard/blue-red/green colour scheme didn't do it for me. There is a lot of empty space at the entrance. Interesting layout to the sleek kitchen but I think it could pose problems for 4 Sims with the narrow walkway and the potential for a Sim being stuck in the corner by the seating. I like the green and black colour scheme. The lounger chairs are not usable at an angle. Having the mirror right near the door could also pose problems if a Sim is practising a speech - more foot stomping if another Sim wants to enter or exit. Overall a nice house. |
Judge Three | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4 | 23 | Beautiful outside. Inside there are still a lot of open spaces. Not the best choice for the kitchen and the dining room; and a romance sim should have her own room and a double bed — the budget was more than adequate for that. Outside the monkey bars can be used by teens- but not by adults. |

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge One | 4 | 4 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 22 | Interesting entry and very tiki All the required elements are there- well done! There is lots of unused space about the house- try not to build overly large rooms because then you have to find things to fill them up |
Judge Two | 4 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 22.5 | To me the bamboo and green siding doesn't look good together. I don't like the roof - perhaps a shallower angle would've looked better for the central bit. I feel there should have been some sort of path to the front door and a bit of terrain paint under the swing. The downstairs bathroom is very big and there's a bit of empty space downstairs. The orange bedroom and turquoise kitchen were a bit much for my eyes. Otherwise nice interior. I liked the dining area. Cute patio. |
Judge Three | 4 | 3.5 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 21.5 | You are adventurous and this lot reminds me of when I submitted one of my first uploads. The moderator said: What an interesting lot! And then gave me around 30 things to change (took me a week). The lawn is indeed green (poor gardener!) but there is too much green. Some dirt or garden soil would make a huge difference under the plants and under the swing and baseball goal post. Even a little footpath leading to the swing will break up the lawn a bit. The bathroom next to the living room can easily have a shower (and you have the budget). The television set (I think it is a TV set) in the living room should be against a wall. The long curtains behind the desk will be in the way — shorter windows will work better with blinds (or the desk needs to be elsewhere because the windows and the curtains are lovely). Same with the decorations in front of the curtains in the reading nook. The roof does not work — the small roof over the entrance does not fit with the big one and the 3 different wall coverings don’t work either — try do those different wall papers horizontally. The white floor on the balcony does not match the floor on the patio — they don’t need to be the same but at least similar. I love the colours you used inside. |

Judge One | 4 | 4 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 22.5 | Interesting build here. Lots of empty space though with some overly large rooms. Some of your deco choices are really nice- especially the living room sofas. Not sure that eight chairs in the dining room is necessary lol. I like your landscaping but could’ve done with a few more plants. |
Judge Two | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 23.5 | Those windows look more suited to an older style home than a modern- otherwise a nice aspect. Your floor plans are a bit blurry. The lab looks a bit empty and there's no activity for Nervous to use up his energy. The interior decoration is very nice. I particularly like the lounge/stairway area. |
Judge Three | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 23.5 | Looking good on the inside as well as the outside. Good work. It may not be creepy enough for the Beakers though! Amazing improvement from you. Good to see you using the back of the house too! |

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Wow just wow! I love the décor and the build on this one- so well thought out! The only thing that I would change would be the entrance to the bathroom off of the lab — just seems a bit weird to walk through it to Nervous’ living area- which is lovely. The landscaping is lovely and I really like the paving to the front. |
Judge Two | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 24 | Seemingly stark build but with an oddly ornate gold decoration above the door. I like how you've kept the paving pattern but inserted little cacti gardens in between - very cute. Nicely laid out floor plan. I think the lounger is unusable at an angle though. The lab area is impressive and the lounge almost looks like a waiting area to the lab- haha. I love the enclosed garden which Nervous has access to. Nice that he has a small stereo that he can work out to. |
Judge Three | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | One of my favourites in this round. I love the labs and the rest of the house is also well decorated. The landscaping is very well done- love the cow plant too. |

Judge One | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 24 | Eye-catching build- I really like the tower and again the assault course. Poor Buck still hasn’t got the pet that he really wants! Some lovely little touches in this build. The upper landing is still rather empty though. |
Judge Two | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 24 | Another good military-looking house suitable for the Grunts. Good floor plan with a good use of space. What is the small room at the front with tyres? I couldn't figure out what it was for or whether there was access to it. Love the interior decoration- especially the red and black. It looked neat and polished. Nice assault course. |
Judge Three | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 24.5 | Another favourite of mine and some lovely touches that I appreciate- like the mirrors in the gym. I would like to see the BBQ closer to the table and I think the general may have a nervous breakdown about those lights in the front yard not facing the same way. Excellent entry. |

Judge One | 3 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 4 | 18 | What a lovely big pond- you have some nice landscaping going on here Unfortunately I can’t see much of what the family likes within the house at all. You have also missed out the en-suite bathroom for PT9 and Jenny. |
Judge Two | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4 | 4.5 | 4 | 21.5 | A nice looking house but the roof is rather steep for my liking. Great that you have lots of grass for PT9. You just need a bit of extra terrain paint and perhaps some plants around the pond. How do they get to the pool? I couldn't see any side or back entrance which means they have to go all the way round the front. You needed a top down shot of the whole lot rather than at an angle as in your first pic. A nice layout but you could afford more decoration. The rooms look a bit sparse and I'm not seeing any reference to Johnny's dream of being a hero or Jill's love of dolphins. |
Judge Three | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 20 | Some pics are still missing and some are hard to see — I can’t see the full swimming pool anywhere. The house itself is nice and I like the way you have divided up the rooms. The green lawn and flowers are pretty and the décor is neat inside — but for me the personality of the Smiths does not show for me — it is more a house for any family than a house for the Smiths. |

Judge One | 5 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 | 19 | Externally this house is lovely but internally the rooms are overly large and empty and there are no railings around the stairwell! It needs a bit more landscaping elements for me too. |
Judge Two | 4.5 | 4 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 22.5 | Nice-looking house. Interesting roof. Is there access to those balconies? I couldn't tell. There is a lot of empty space. If you can't fill it make the rooms smaller or have one floor less. I liked the swimming pool area and love the view from the dining/kitchen. I really liked the kitchen (try to have the ceiling showing for the pics). I felt the lot needed more landscaping/terrain paint. Great job on the requirements. |
Judge Three | 5 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 5 | 23 | The outside is stunning. Love the placement of the entrance/ the balconies/ the way the pool is made and the fencing and borders you used. Inside there is still a lot of empty spaces- although the kitchen is perfect in my opinion. Nice use of colours too. Work on the empty spaces. A good build all over. |

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Another wow from me! Brilliant build with a great layout. Some good décor choices too. Great attention to detail- especially in the labs. |
Judge Two | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 24 | Your entry made me laugh. Poor Nervous not getting a lavatory (what about theoretical number twos? How does he clean that up?) I do love the 'mouse' wheel for his exercise. The house has a nice industrial look. Your interior decoration is impressive- especially the labs. Wow. I think you really enjoyed building this one. |
Judge Three | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | This lot surely is the new norm for the Beakers. Everything works- from the windmill on the roof to the coat hangers for Circe- not to mention the wheel for the pet. I love the washing line and the garden too. Excellent combination of quirky/creepy and strange. Full marks from me. |

Judge One | 5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 4.5 | 24 | you can never have too much purple in my opinion! I love the castle look on the build and the grass on the flat roof! Whilst some entries have a little too much green I would’ve liked to see a bit more green. I really like the landscaping. |
Judge Two | 4.5 | 5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 24 | I like the idea of a home being castle like- but it looks odd somehow. The four turrets look disproportionate to me. I don't like the black floor tile and concrete-type walls. It looks a little depressing. Otherwise nicely and suitably decorated. Great job with the swimmable lake. Nice landscaping. |
Judge Three | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 24 | I like it. I would have made the roof flat and think stone tiles would have gone better with the castle theme- but it is a great entry. Well done. |

Judge One | 4.5 | 4 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 22.5 | There is some lovely planting and shaping of the flower beds in this entry. I’m not too keen on the patches of grass. Most of the rooms look over sized and a little too functional? I can’t see many deco items to personalise the rooms. Try making the rooms smaller or adding in more items. Paintings always add interest to a room |
Judge Two | 5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 5 | 23.5 | Handsome house. The bits of lawn look a little like a mini-golf course. Maybe a bit of vegetation would make it look a little less odd. Nicely decorated inside although the walls look a bit sparse. A strange long entrance to the office. I like the outdoor kitchen and eating area. |
Judge Three | 5 | 4.5 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 23.5 | Looks good outside. Inside there are still too many empty spaces and walls. Johnny’s room seems a bit impersonal for a teenager- a poster or 2 will help. The garden is pretty and the lawns a novel idea. |

Jo - looks like you have posted the Round 1 scores on the table again. (Not applicable since I am apparently not awake yet).
Congratulations, Contestants, on a great job done. You have not made it easy for the judges in Round 2 at all
Looks like simsample has won the round - so congrats and cheers with a suitable cocktail

What do you mean @Justpetro *has slight panic attack* Which ones? I just checked Mordant's and the comments and scores are different from round one. If you mean the table on the first page I haven't touched that yet.

Sorry, Jo - I really should be more awake. I referred to the table on the first page, but when I looked again, I realised you have not posted it yet and I was confused (again). I was just going to edit my post!
