Having said that, it would take a herculean amount of quirk to portray a slaughterhouse in a way palatable and compatible with the Sims series style. I just don't think it could be done. If they did have a farming EP, the best approach would be to just use animals that can provide renewable products, i.e. sheep (wool), chickens (eggs) and cows (milk). Personally, I'd love to see llamas, ducks, ostriches, goats and almond trees so we have some variety.

I'm not talking about actually seeing your farmer sim butcher his/her cows/sheep/chickens for their meat. I'm all about conveying that in my farm, I sell steaks, hotdogs, eggs, milk from my animals because I'm a farmer with those animals as well as sell my produce. Didn't mean to offend anyone and I apologize if I did that.

I don't think anyone was offended. The point is that EA doesn't add controversy into their game. Eating meat is accepted in pretty much every culture and those that don't eat meat have a variety of reasons for not doing so, some their personal morals, others for health reasons, etc. Being offended because someone doesn't agree with them is intolerance. I didn't see any of that here regarding this subject, just comments that EA is a game of sunshine and roses.

On the other hand, they did mention meat in the farming survey! So it is possible that people here have it all wrong! I completely understand the moral issues for some folks, but hey, there are those with moral issues against witches and vampires, but they put those in games! Where I live, we had folks leave a party (not at my house) when my son pulled out his Magic the Gathering cards.

I don't want to get into a discussion of meat...just adding to the discussion of why EA may or may not include meat in a farming pack they may or may not create.

If anything, EA might offer meat without there being a hint of where it came from realistically. They have been commended by PETA for both Pets EP. Knowing how comical EA can get with the game, I wouldn't be surprised if our Sims could produce meat unrealistically just to avoid any issues. Or it could just be to where meat comes from the animals in a "behind-the-scenes" type of way without mentioning a slaughter house. Who knows? For all we know, we might only get to milk the cows as the only edible thing the cows will offer. I am curious as to how EA will pull this off to appease both sides.

Why should there be a slaughterhouse involved? The steaks and turkeys collected from the plants look quite realistic even though they are supposedly vegetarian. They could do the same with the animals, just add the option to collect milk and eggs from them daily. For meat, we coud collect once and then the animal dissapears and we would need to replace it.

I have nothing for respect for groups and people who work to protect animals. However, the difference between allowing a sim to beat and torture an animal opposed to a working farm with the ability to process and sell meat is huge. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that EA will not and should not portray the horrors of the modern slaughterhouses and meat farms, which have questionable ethics when it comes to animals. But a family farm where the chicken ends up magically in the stew pot? That is very different.

My grandparents owned a farm and I spent a great deal of time there as a kid. So maybe I have a different view on all this.

As for both sides, again, EA did not worry about the Harry Potter haters (due to religious views) or the homophobes (due to ignorance) or any other particular group.

Remember Harvest Moon? Very fun game. Very good farm simulation. There are loads of others and many turn animals into meat. The trick would be to make it optional.

Personally, I don't care about the meat. LOL I would be happy with eggs, milk and cheese! Wool would be nice too.
