Sims 3
Default Custom Hair = BALD!
Hey, I installed a few packages and suddenly all my custom hair is... baldish I tried deleting and downloading new hair but they also turn out bald in the game.

What should I do?

Do you have a Mac, and the newest patch? If so, that's a known issue - with no known fix besides reinstalling your game and -not- installing the newest patch (it has a load of other stupid bugs too which make it less than ideal to install)

I have a Mac as well and ran across this problem. Luckily deleting out the last 3 or 4 hair meshes I had downloaded did the trick for me. Not sure yet which one was causing the problem.

I would just make sure you have trashed all the potentially problematic files before going in for the full re-install.

Hi there,
I have bought 2 DVDs of The Sims 3 just 2 days ago. Everything works great. One is running on my 17" MBP and other is on 24" iMac. Both have high spec so no complains in performance. I have downloaded the custom hairs and its giving my iMac a bald hair but not in my MBP. Everything has the same settings and reinstalling so many times. Not sure what's wrong there. Any suggestion? I tried 1.3 and 1.0, they're all the same result that my MBP 17" would work but not on my iMac. Thank you in advance!

Can you give us the system specs of both machines? About This Mac > More Info, and then copy and paste what it says in Hardware Overview and in Graphics/Displays.

It might also be interesting if you check in Software > Frameworks to see what versions of OpenGL and Quicktime these machines are running. I'm not a hair person at all, so I don't know what would make hair show up or not – but if you say the game is set up identically on both machines, all I can think of is that it's some sort of hardware or system component that makes the difference. Perhaps your info could help someone who knows more about hair to figure out what the problem might be.

Also, what do you mean by "I tried 1.3 and 1.0" -- do you mean with the 1.3 patch, and without? (Are you aware that the current patch is 1.4?)

Hi PlasticBox,
Thanks for the reply, real appreciate it. I have tried installing the custom hair on 1.0, 1.3 and the latest one which is 1.4. They just don't work. So I spose it's not about the version of the game. Thanks in advance!

And does reinstalling you game delete everything?

I've had this problem and have always just gotten rid of recently downloaded hair from my packages folder until the game runs correctly again.

I've had this same problem, and I thought deleting things would help. But what I've actually found, is that it's completely random, and fixes itself on its own. For instance, I'll have the bald problem and just play as usual, save my game, and exit. The next time I'll play, all the custom hairs are randomly working again.

This problem just happened to me for the first time and it was right after I installed some hair from the EA store. I'd been using HP's cherub hair without issue, but now after installing an EA hair, the Cherub hair is flat.

One other thing I've noticed too, is that the icon in the lower left, of the sim wearing the hair, now *blinks*... sometimes the icon shows the correct hair, then it *blinks* and then it shows and hair as flat... *blinks* again, and the hair looks right. The actual sim isn't changing, just his icon.

My game is version 1.3. I haven't done the 1.4 patch.

hmm i think i found some sort of solution to the problem, tho im not 100% sure...

all the custom hairstyles i downloaded as .package files and go into the root folder do not seem to work. however the custom hairstyles i downloaded as .sims3pack and are installed with the launcher DO work! I just need to find an all custom mesh as a .sims3pack to make sure of this or find a way to change a .package file to a .sims3pack file...

So if anyone knows where to find an all custom mesh as a .sims3pack file?

Package files don't go in the root folder, could that be the problem here? See this FAQ: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php..._Custom_Content

"Package files don't go in the root folder, could that be the problem here? See this FAQ: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php..._Custom_Content"

"In the OS X version, this hierarchy is hidden within the Sims 3 application. To get there, follow these steps:

* Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on The Sims 3.app.
* Choose "Show Package Content" from the contextual menu.
* Navigate through: Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive > Program Files > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. You are now at what is referred to above as "the
Sims 3 root folder".
* Create a folder called Mods. Double-click on it to enter the folder.
* Create a folder inside Mods called Packages.
* Paste any .package files in this folder to install them to your game."

they are in this folder and besides they worked before I installed 1.3 so im sure its the right folder, also the clothes, paterns and other cc are in this folder and work fine...I was just saying i might have found a solution to the bald custom hair problem for mac users using patch 1.3 & 1.4
