Default Easter eggs and pop culture references
What references have you found so far in Sims 3?

Is it just me or has those clever pop culture references and Easter eggs gone down a lot since sims 2? Sims 2 used to have many witty remarks which weren't always that obvious, and often hilariously made fun of real life. Now we have stuff like the cinnamon challenge, gangnam dance, and selfies which seems like lame attempts to suck up younger generations rather than being fun caricatures. I am not going to even further mention the the sims 4 bro culture nonsense.

Anyway, here are a few that came to my mind at this moment, love to see more from you.

Garrison Fort/ Harrison Ford

Traits, Flirty?! Well, at least he is a nerd

I found Laura Palmer reference in the Supernatural game files some time ago

There's loooots of references to old hollywood celebrities in Roaring Heights, to the point that I'm not even sure they can be called easter eggs! Also, there's some references to the "Olive Specter is a murderer" theory in Midnight Hollow. And my favorite, this Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul billboard;

I have never played EA's store worlds so this is new information to me! I love classical Hollywood and wouldn't certainly mind some photos. I Just googled Olive Specter and Midnight Hollow and came across this: http://postimg.org/image/19qr8ze78/ That painting is Olive crying after being left at the altar! Never thought of it when my sims had finished that painting.

Since you mentioned Garrison Fort, it might be interesting to know that one of the RH sims is also based on Henry Ford, he's got two cars in his garage, one of which is in the process of being built. Another couple I really like is the Astare household; their bio describes them in a way that perfectly matches the chemistry Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire had on stage, I think! It's definitely a world you'd enjoy if you're into film noire and old Hollywood 8)

EDIT; YOOOOO I WAS SO SLEEP DEPRIVED WHEN I WROTE THIS IM GONNA DIE// HAN SOLO DID NOT REVOLUTIONIZE THE CAR INDUSTRY

One of the paintings that sims can paint features Bella Goth: http://s110.photobucket.com/user/QE...ot-352.jpg.html
The sims in the hot air balloon that can sometimes be seen floating around were changed from this to this.

Now obviously these are self-references. I think almost all the sims in Moonlight Falls are a reference to occult stories (like the sim Bailey Swain being a reference to Bella Swan from Twilight).

There's also a "romantic" interaction called "Confess to watching while sleeping." There's also 2 different references to the Real World, one household in Sunset Valley and one in Bridgeport.

They've got some incredibly obscure references in the game. One of my favourite is Milly and Pilly Pidgins. They're a reference to the mother and daughter from the famous documentary Grey Gardens. They've got the same co-dependence, the mansion falling into disrepair and the mother retired from only a low level job in the music career; a reference to the real life mother's attempt at being a famous singer.

I'm writing a TV series, yeah. It's a cross between True Detective and Pretty Little Liars.

Moonlight Falls has so many of them (or at least I've noticed them more since that's the town I play the most). Every house hold is a reference to some supernatural book, tv show, or movie. Offhand of what I remember they make references to Twilight, Bewitched, Being Human, etc. The Vampire Bar looks a lot like the one from the outside in True Blood imo and the lot called Sam's Market Diner is referring to Sam's Diner in the show as well. Also the fact that vampires now get a high from drinking fairy blood is yet another for True Blood. There's also one for Harry Potter's quidditch with the broom riding game that comes with supernatural too. Like bellakenobi has posted there's a lot of references usually in item descriptions and such... that is if you take the time to read them.

@ribbonista I think you mean Henry Ford, not Harrison Fort! Henry Ford is the one who revolutionized the car industry.
@sweetdevil Now, that you've pointed that out, it is so obvious! It's Bella and Cassandra! Why I never made the connection before, is beyond me. I also went to check that hot air balloon but I haven't updated my game since 1.67 so I didn't have pancakes. But that is a pretty clever change.
@bellakenobi You got a whole folder!

I'm not very familiar with doctor who or any other supernatural shows/books other than Twin Peaks.

Cross-posting here just because I realized it was more relevant to this thread after the fact, lol.

I discovered that this metal sculpture has scissors for hands (in a reference to Edward Scissorhands)

I remember the easter egg from "The Lucky Simoleon Casino". You can look inside the tower to find a lost shoe, glasses, book and sleeping bag. Most of the people suggested it's a fairy tale reference, a few months later the announced Supernatural EP.

In Lucky Palms there's a household that is meant to be Bewitched, if witchcraft were replaced by typical mother-in-law problems.
There's also a completely, ridiculously inaccurate spoof of Bewitched in Moonlight Falls.

I recently made a list of sci-fi references in Into The Future's Build/Buy. It's incomplete, it should probably have its own thread, and I've probably missed half of them.

Blade Runner
Batty's Egg Living Chair - after the main villain, Roy Batty
Rachael's Relaxer Loveseat - after our protagonist's love interest, Rachael
Tears In Rain Ceiling Lights - from Batty's famous tears in rain speech
Tannhauser Gate Floor Lamp - from Batty's famous tears in rain speech
Now of course, Blade Runner was also a major source of inspiration for SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow.

Star Trek
Nacelle Dining Table - name, design and description all reference a warp nacelle
Food Forge Cuisine Synthesizer - design and function based on the food replicators seen in The Next Generation
Tyrellian Cube Barstool - after the Tyrellian planet
Azad Holo-Chess table - 3d chess is somewhat of a staple in Star Trek
various unnamed paintings from BuyDebug (possibly) - these somewhat resemble some of the artworks on the Enterprise-D
I should also point out that the devs took clear inspiration from Star Trek's utopian futurism since many objects and outfits in ITF bear a resemblance to Trek and The Next Generation in particular

The Fifth Element
all products made by Korben Computing (possibly) - after Korben Dallas, our protagonist
Samantha Loo - name, appearance and personality based on Leeloo, the fifth element
Colby Texas name, appearance and personality based on Korben Dallas
Jade Zogg name, appearance and personality based on Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg

Doctor Who
Tardisian All-In-One Bathroom - after the TARDIS
Tardisian Well Sonic Shower - after the TARDIS

Back To The Future
Arasika DeLorraine - name and description based on the DeLorean, and DeLorraine is probably a reference to Marty's mom
Emit Relevart - name and appearance based on Emmett Brown
Windcarver - function and description based on the hoverboards from BTTF2
Martin McFleet - name, appearance and personality based on Marty McFly

"Emit Relevart" is also "Time Traveler" reversed. I will grant the appearance of him being based on the professor, but the name similarity is probably a coincidence unless the movie named the professor Emmet due to it being a variation of Emit.

The appearance thing does make the names being similar rather likely though, doesn't it? Emit and Emmett are pronounced in almost exactly the same way.

The "Detention Hall" poster is a reference to the film "The Breakfast Club". There's also a painting that looks like Nyan Cat.

We're beating a dead horse here, but my theory was that when writing the script for Back to the Future, they needed a name for the professor.
"Hey, if you spell Time backward, it's Emit. We can call him Emmet!"

Fast forward to creating ITF...
"We need a time traveler. He needs a name and a character model."
"Maybe we could spell Time Traveler backward and name him Emit Relevart."
Someone who loves Back to the Future raises their hand. "ME! ME! I'll make him!!!"

TL:DR I don't question that the appearance was a deliberate Easter Egg, but I still think the name was at least partially a result of two groups of people both discovering that Time spelled backward is Emit.
