Default Tutorial How T Build An 'A' or 'V' Frame Roof
I was asked How to do a roof like this by devil_boy , so I decided to do a whole tutorial about it!

What You Need:
Laurana Interior fence
http://www.11dots.com/
Go here and download then install these if you havnt already!
They should be in Build tab & about the second post down!

1) Determine the plan of your house. You may use 2 or more stories for this.
I like to use foundations for my homes, but they aren't needed if you dont
want them.

2) It is best to have an even number of squares across the part of house
that you want the 'A' or 'V' shape. I used 6 here, shown with different color
tiles......3 for left......& 3 for right, as you need to choose a spot half
way across for the V shape....in a moment!

You may increase or decrease the amount of tiles (meaning the width of the V shaped room), this depends on the size of the room or the look you want.

3) Place walls all around. No need to place interiour walls just yet!

4) Place the wall tool at the halfway mark (the spot where the 2 different
tile colors meet) & drag a diagonal wall to one of the side walls that you
just made.

Now repeat for the other side.

5) Go up a level so we can place the roof. I use the top down view to do
roofs, so I can see if I've missed anywhere. But do go into normal view to
see how it looks from time to time.

Choose a roof, for this one i chose the 'Long Gabled Roof'.

Now drag to place the roof, starting at the front corner & all the way to the back.

You need the roof to look like this at the front so as the home will have the
A or V frame look!

(Depending on the size of the V shaped room, Sometimes you may need to use the 'Short Gabled Roof' so as it will look like the pic above at the front)
You may as well go ahead and place a roof over the remaining sections of the
unrooved parts of the house.

6) Choose the 'Walls Up' button.

Delete the pointy section of roof JUST AT THE FRONT, by hodling down CTRL and dragging with your wall tool.

If you go up to the roof now & look, you can see that the roof is still
there.

7) Go back down to walls up view. With the wall tool and pressing CTRL,
delete JUST the sections of walls that are OUTSIDE the V shape ofr the room.

You are now left with the 'V' shape of the room.

8) Go to fences in build mode & select the tallest of 11Dots's Laurana Fence.

Starting at the V's point, drag just ONE section.
Do the same for the other side.

Now choose Laurana fence sloped 2, & drag just ONE section next to the taller one you just placed. Do the same for the other side.

Now choose Laurana fence sloped 3, & drag just ONE section of that next to
the last piece you just placed. Do the same for the other side.

9) Choose the roofs up......PERFECT!

10) Sometimes there is a gap between the fence you placed & the roof. This
can happen if you have a very wide sized V shaped room....IE: lets say 8-10
squares wide.

If this happenes you need to put in a cheat.
To do this....press CTRL at the same time press SHIFT and the letter C...this
will get your cheat console up.
In the cheat console type roofslopeangle, next to that word you need to place a number....45 is the default, so usually you need to bring the roof down a little so you need to give a number less than 45 and more than 15.
So you will need to experiment with the value (number)!

11) Delete the floor tiles we placed earlier for measuring. There are many
methods for decorating. I like a porch around my V shape. For this home wich
is on a foundation, I have placed a 2 tile wide piece of foundation outside
the walls to create a porch! The choice here is up to you.

12) Decorate with windows, doors, Paint, plants etc etc.

Please feel free to ask any questions about this tutorial!

Hope it all works out.

shrekheatherbelle,

Yay... Thanks for a useful build feature tutorial... It's nicely done.

Added:
You can try just save the whole webpage of this thread while cutting the unnecessary posts away and compress the html and its folder.

patul,

I wish I were brave enough to try MS IE7 beta something... I'd if i'd 2 Pc while the weaker and cheaper were for beta-testing while losing that testing PC would be OK to me. I still can't forget how bad it was when IE 4 emerged... x_X

The download in the Sims 2 graveyard (11 dots) has only the rounded fences, as well as the straight fences. The rounded ones would make a GREAT atrium piece, and the straight fences are lovely, but we want the straight window fence as shown in the steps here, apparently.

Simscave, however, does appear to have it:

Thanks to MsTeaQueen on BPS for the tip.

Registration on Simscave IS required, but it's a pretty cool site.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.
