Missing homework >:(
Soooo....I'm playing the Capp family and everything's going right, up until the kids come back from school. The first kid will look at their report card, and either sigh or (in Juliette's case) get excited and start running. However, by the time Juliette gets to jump up and down and sing about how she's got an A, yay! or simply after enough time has passed (but not enough time for the kids to all set their homework down somewhere), everyone will reset, and the homework will be gone (or it will have not spawned at all). I've looked everywhere for it: on the floor, on the desks, in invidivual kids' inventories. I can't buy more homework, like in The Sims 4, and there's apparently no "buydebug" or "show hidden items" cheat where I can get it in buy/build mode.
Of course, I have some ideas. I do have one or two mods installed, and I could try removing them to see if the problem persists. I am actually going to attempt to try that, but in the meantime, is anyone aware of an easy fix for this? Maybe there is a way I can generate homework? Maybe I have to flatten the land so it doesn't boggle their little Sim brains and cause them to flip out?
Here are my specs:
I don't know how to record, upload, and then share a video in these forums, but this is pretty much my problem .

moving mods/hacks to out of game probably should have been the first thing to check.
if the problem occurs without that content, then the cause is probably either game or computer. if the problem does not occur without the content, then the cause is somewhere within the content.
might also check the Logs folder for files related to the problem. filename would probably contain "Object Error" if such files exist.
if the testingcheatsenabled cheat (boolprop testingcheatsenabled true) is enabled, such messages would be seen in game.

Hmm... that looks like a mod conflict to me. By all means, check if you can duplicate the problem without mods, but I'd be very surprised if you can; I've played a modded game now for years and never seen exactly that with childrens' homework, but a new mod I tried this week fried Cyd Roseland's paycheque in that manner... twice! I decided that mod I could live without!
If you've only got a handful of mods installed, you might be able to identify the problem file(s) quite quickly, but a handy tool to have is the HCDU. As the description says, it won't fix the problem, but it'll give you a heads-up as to where the problem may lie.
However, don't panic about everything it might say - a lot of "conflicts" are either intentional (eg mod add-ons) or benign (mods conflict but will work together as intended if the recommended load order is followed).
No need to use my full name, "Selly" will do just fine.

There are mods that reduce and remove homework, so check for those first.

Okay, I tried playing with the mods removed and the problem persisted.
I did attempt boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true, and yes, there was an Error that popped up. I can't remember if it specifically identified the homework or not. I'll try that again and take a screencap.
So far, this hasn't happened with any other family--just the Capps.

Did you remove only hacks/mods, or all the items in your Downloads folder? If you only take out mods/hacks, there's a chance you have a mod hidden somewhere.
(When testing, keep in any mods marked as critical, and NPC mods to avoid neighborhood corruption - or take a backup of the neighborhood before you start the testing, so you don't accidentally screw up anything)

Okay, here is the error (same one?) in image form:
ETA: I tried both "Reset" and "Delete." "Reset" changed nothing (although I suppose it did reset Juliette), but it didn't return the homework), and "Delete"...well, deleted Juliette. Fortunately, I exited without saving and when I came back, she was there again.

I only have two items in my Downloads folder, and I removed them both.

Okay...At this point, I'm wondering if it's even worth trying to fix.
I fast-forwarded to the next day. The error still came up, but this time, when everyone "reset" (or when I reset Juliette), Hermia (the one whose homework I wanted to make sure got completed) dropped TWO homeworks on the ground. So I finally got her to complete them. I have no idea what happened to Tybalt's or Juliette's. I don't really care; they can flunk for all it matters to me.
Still, I wish this wouldn't happen...
ETA: I wonder if part of it is how ridiculously long the Capps' driveway is? It takes them forever to do anything. I hate it!

Are the parents on the lot? There is a bug in sims 2 where kids will reset with no homework if the parent they want to show a report card to is not living on the lot. There is a mod called 'Get parents' (I think it's called) whiches fixes this issue. It might be on Insim.

Is this going to introduce yet another problem, since both the parents of Hermia, Tybalt, and Juliette are dead? I can see where that would make "Get Parents" a bit tricky.

Agree but I do think they are there (the graves). I'm no expert but this must be something else. My experience is that the homework just dissapers if the parents is not there. I had a teenager comming home and as his father was at work and the older, not related females on the lot was not seen as parents the homework was lost. I did not get any object error. I did see the same thing on an other lot under almost the same conditions. No object error there either.

OH! In that case, this might pose a problem. I had all the graves moved to another lot, because I don't want ghosts roaming the house. I waited for some, but not all the ghosts, to appear, because I was told they wouldn't appear at the graveyard otherwise.
...Never mind, I was able to open TS2 after restarting. When am I going to learn?

Goddammit, it's in a .rar file. I can't open those, and I don't want to pay for Winrar.
Does anyone know if it's available in a .zip file?

When did WinRAR become a pay program, I thought it just kept bugging you about buying the full version forever?
Anyway, I repackaged the file, hope that's okay:

THANK YOU!
I've downloaded the mod and am running the game now. I'll let you know if it works.
ETA: Okay, seems to be working just fine now! Thank you!
Also, I must have mistaken "suggestion" for "requirement." My mistake.

You don't need to pay for WinRar, its free. It will nag at you to buy it after a while if you left click it, so just change to right-clicking. I've used it for years.

I would recommend 7zip; it has an unrar function, and the compression of the 7zip format is superior to zip or rar.
I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will

I wonder if this, the disappearing homework, is a problem that only appeared in the later EPs. My highest EP is OFB, and I've never had any problem playing teens (and, I think, kids) with no parents. My main game is Veronaville. Both the Monty and Capp teens' parents are dead at the start of the game, but Juliette, Hermia, Tybalt, Romeo and Mercutio have all achieved A+ grades. (Tybalt has grown up now, but he left school with an A+.) I specialise in playing teens living without adults, and nearly all of these have A+ grades as well. Since they have no parents to share thee good news with, they tend to just quietly get on with their lives. When ex-townie Jihoon LeTourneau became the first Sim in my game to become an overachiever (when he added an A+ grade to the top-level teen job he already had as a townie), he made no fuss at all about it, and it was only weeks later, when looking through his memories, that I realised his achievement. A few of my Sims seem to be stuck on low grades, but it's not because of disappearing homework -- they do it diligently every time they get it. (I have Jenflower's homework mod, so sometimes they have none.) The only time I've seen homework vanish is when little Hans Moltke arrive home from school at the same time as his parents get back from work, and he runs to give them a hug. But it doesn't worry me, because I don't think Hans is ever going to be an academic high-flyer.

It's not dead parents that cause this bug @AndrewGloria ,but missing parents. That is having one or more parents alive but not living on the same lot as the kid/teen. The first time I had this bug was with an alien teen. I had moved him to a new place leaving her with the grandparents, I didn't have the mod at this point but since I noticed the connection-he left she glitched-i moved her in with him and it was fixed immediately. The next time it occurred was a challenge where teens raise younger siblings and I had made the mum a townie. I then found out about the mod after asking for help, and that also immediately fixed the issue. I don't know that the bug always occurs either, it's to do with which parent the child wants to show their report card to I think. In both cases they only had one parent since poly tech doesn't count and the other family were made in CAS.

Thanks Jo. It sounds like the mod would be useful to me then. I sometimes create relationships between townies, making them parents and children, and brothers and sisters. And townies often get invited to move in and become playable in my game. So I could easily imagine a situation where an ex-townie teen (or possibly a child) gets an A+ grade and is looking for his/her parent to celebrate. Indeed it could easily have happened when Dean Cameron was asked to move in by Harry Hastie, while Dean's mum Carla was still a townie. It didn't happen there because, knowing how useful an adult income is (and possibly also because Dean loved his mum), Dean and Harry soon asked Carla to join them. Now Carla is in a passionate lesbian relationship with Bianca Monty, and Dean hasn't actually got an A+ yet.
