Hello,

another method to get the ground back is to place stairs and delete them without a foundation stair in place to hold the hole open.

I wrote a tutorial about the whole method some time ago: Tutorial: Fresh Air for basements built with the basement tool.

Lichtje that certainly does work too, but takes a lot longer (or at least it does for me!)

P.S. that looks like a really good tutorial for people who are struggling!

Actually here is what the original poster was looking for. No stairs or tricks involved.

Create a basement.
Select the basement,
go up a level.
Click the bold yellow line
click "Remove ceiling"

VOILA!

Jikseis, we're talking about sims 3 not the sims 4. So while that method does work for TS4 it is entirely unfunctional in TS3
