Ajay's bio doesn't say a lawn is important to him either, @AndrewGloria It wasn't required to use terrain paint either, it is just a cheap (free, actually) way to do some landscaping when you have a tight budget. Also, not all terrain paint is green (I obviously do not know which ones you have) - but dirt and garden soil and the mixed rocks can be used for paths, edges, etc. The mixed rocks terrain paint is what I used between the wood floors here for the Evans house in Jo's other competition, because I ran out of money too!

Can I just mention that two judges commented on Olive's lack of dead husbands on her made over lot?
...What dead husbands? If Olive has lost her memory, she won't know about them. Unless the graves were abducted along with everyone else?

@Justpetro: thanks for the judges POV. As you say, it's about learning, and some of that is about how to interpret the rules. The judges are working on that "most important thing in his life", whereas I read that and thought yes, the lawn is the most important thing to him, but it also says he enjoys staring at the sky so a telescope might also make him happy... even if not as happy.
My fault, of course - I should have asked for a ruling before deadline, so I could have switched things around. But of course it's always easier to be wise after the event.
Did we have a fermented juice bar around here somewhere? I still have two households debating which one of them gets house two, so I've got some time to kill while the pixels figure it out...

Yes, that's what I was thinking, too, I gave her a spade and a pair of wellies because she had a feeling she might like to do some digging one day.

Round Two! The Singles Move To 2 Cover Up Road
I was actually dreading making over this house because I had zero clue what to do with it, but I think it turned out alright! Because the lot is quite big, I decided to have the Singles move in here; they're all able to have their own room. Without further ado, here's what I did with 2 Cover Up Road.*The Golden Girls theme song starts playing*
Even though it wasn't my intention, it did end up getting a bit of a Golden Girls vibe in my opinion. I apologize that you can't see the front very well, all the greenery gets in the way; this is the closest I was able to get it.
This is the full lot!
The final price: $79,852.
This is the ground (and only) floor. The house was large enough to fit everything downstairs, methinks.
Here's the roof. Peep the solar panels
This is the view as one enters the house. The doors lead to the girls' rooms and their bathrooms, and the arch straight ahead leads to the games room. I admit that having the bedrooms at the front of the house is a bit unusual, but I think it worked out okay. This was the best place I was able to put them, anyway.
The first room to the left of the hallway is Lola's room. She's our serious politician, hence the bookcase and office clutter. Nothing says "serious politician" like office clutter. Her room is green and a lot of her decorations are natured themed. Since her interest in environment is high, I figured she'd be part of some environmentalist activist groups and would eventually end up joining a Green political party. It is at her insistence that they had those solar panels installed on the roof.
Across the hall from Lola is Kristen's room. Her decorations are, obviously, sports themed. She also has one of those stationary bike things (can you tell I don't exercise?) to use for training. Her old university football jersey is hung up on the wall, to remind her of all those matches she and her teammates won.
Next to Lola's room is Erin's. Her decorations are sort of pseudo-Bohemian; at least it's what I attempted with the rug and the bed spread. I chose purple as Erin's colour because it symbolizes intuition, or so I'm told by the internet, and she'd need a lot of that if she wants to be a psychic. Some of her deco objects also point to this hobby of hers: she has Tarot cards spread on her table (where she sometimes entertains her friends by predicting ridiculous events, like the end of the world), a dream catcher to absorb those negative energies, and a little Tiki statue she found at a flea market (she believes it protects her from negative energy, too).
Across Erin's is Chloe's room. I went with lots of reds here because she's a romance sim and nothing says romance like red, am I right? Anyway, I was at a bit of a loss as to what to put in the room besides a bed and an end table. Since Chloe is said to be a social person who wants to get to know people, I just added a little nook with two arm chairs where she could sit and talk with one of her girlfriends.
Between each of the rooms is a small bathroom, which the two girls on either side of it share. So, Erin and Lola share a bathroom, and Chloe and Kristen share the other. I only took pictures of the one bathroom, but the other is identical except for the colour scheme.
Leaving the hallway, we are now in the games/hobby room. The girls can come here to relax and play pool, or paint a picture, or work out. The posters of aliens on the wall are Erin's, and the movie poster featuring a surfer is Kristen's.
Next is the living room, which also features a bar. The four stars are the wall symbolize the four girls. Lola also brought a lot of plants in here...
The dining room features not only a table and chairs, but a
The kitchen is pretty standard, though it features one of the two cork boards in the house (the other being in the games room, though it's not pictured due to its being on the wall opposite the one I took a picture of). I imagine that Lola (who's a bit bossy and a bit of a control freak) pins notes on here like "Erin, it's your turn to do the dishes" and "Kristen, please don't leave your work out clothes in the games room", that type of thing.
Off the kitchen is another bathroom, because I figured that having both bathrooms on one side of the house was asking for trouble. If they're spending time in the pool and have to spend a penny, as it were, they won't have to cross the whole house and drip water everywhere (which Lola also hates, by the way). Or, more likely, if the other two bathrooms are engaged, there's always a third one.
And speaking of the pool, here it is! There are also some lounge chairs and a grill!
And lastly, this is a shot of the little garden-alcove-thing out front. The little garden path snakes from the front gate all the way to either the pool and the front door, and anyone traveling to either of those places will pass a few patches and clumps of desert greenery here and there. So if they want some shade, they can sit down. Or if Kristen wants to practice her soccer skills, she can do that too! Or if either of the Curious girls want to say hello to their relatives, there's also a telescope here.
That's it for round two! I can't wait to see what everyone else has done

Round 2 - Grunt
Round 2 was a tricky one that I had to get done quickly so I'd have time to study for my upcoming exams, but hopefully I did it justice.[Note] The roof in the middle of the tower was not an aesthetic choice and had to be done so the roof underneath it would go away. It was the only way I could find to keep the roof tiles from showing in the tower on the third floor.
Please welcome the Grunt's to their new home.
As a military family of course it was vital that the Grunt's have access to the best military obstacle course this side of Sim City. This along with the rough looking exterior shows that this is not a family to be messed with.
Entering inside you can see a whole other side to the house, as it welcomes you with a bright modern entry way, straight into the lounge room. On the TV is the sports channel, a favourite of Tank's.
Just off the kitchen is a fully stocked gym with everything you'd ever need to get in ship shape. With weights, a treadmill, a punching bag, and a couple of mats to unroll and do stretches on. Towards the back of the room is a whiteboard to draw out workout plans. Buck has moved his play table in here, so he can be closer to his father as he works out.
Moving further into the house, we reach the kitchen and dining area. With the striking colour scheme brought in from the lounge, the kitchen is clean and orderly. Leave one bowl out of place and you'll have the General on your back asking for 50 push ups. Off to the side, out of frame, is a juice bar, perfect for entertaining your old squad mates.
In a place with as nice weather as Strangetown it's insane not to have an outdoor eating area. Hot days are perfect for a barbecue, and everyday's a hot day in Strangetown. Next to the patio is a swing set that Buck likes to swing on while watching the General and Tank run the obstacle course.
A shower in the downstairs bathroom is a necessity, so mud isn't dragged from outside all the way through the house.
A no nonsense man calls for a no nonsense bedroom, which is exactly what we have provided for the General. The only extravagances here are an ensuite bathroom and a door leading out to the balcony.
Tank looks up to his dad and wants to be just like him on the outside, but his bedroom shows his true desire. Tank's dream is not to become a General like his father, but to be a sport's journalist for the Sim Herald. You might think no one know's who you really are Tank, but the town council does.
Ripp know's it's cool to rebel against your parents and authority figures (and hey, his dad is both of these things), so he needs a room to reflect this. Using the classic colours of teen angst (black and red) we've created a haven for Ripp where parents and high wound older brothers dare not enter.
Now for the mostly forgotten Buck, the smallest room, but the one with the most personality. Showing his love of dogs with not one, but two (2nd one not pictured) dog posters, the General still missed the hint and got him an ant farm for his birthday. Oh well Buck, there's always next year.
In the meantime you can keep yourself busy with the fish.
And lastly the place you never want to go in a house with 4 males, the main bathroom. Hopefully the flowers will mask the inevitable smell that's yet to come.

Entry Round 2 - The Singles Family
Here is my entry for round 2. I have chosen the singles family. I decided to build a large modern home with enough space for them to live together and invite friends over. The house now includes a swimming pool area as well as a pooltable for parties and a telescope so the alien twins can stargaze and perhaps meet their family. There are four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a small toilet. The bedrooms are decorated according to the family members biography:- Chloe Singles - she is a romance sim and likes to spend time with people so I gave her room a reddish wallpaper, a mirror to practice her social skills, a large bed and a dresser with make-up and flowers. I chose candles for lightning.
- Erin Singles - her biography says she thinks she has paranormal gifts. When I read that I immediately thought of a crystal ball, tarot cards and some antiques. I chose furniture for her room that I think she would buy in the second hand shop and I decorated with lots of 'weird' stuff she would find there as well.
- Kristen Singles - she wants to be a sports star so I think of her as the tomboy and tried to make her room not very 'girly'. I also put in some gym equipment so she can stay fit and train for her sports career.
- Lola Singles - I felt like she is the serious one and studies a lot so I kept her room neutral and gave Lola her own study with a large desk and a bookcase.

Round 2 - Smiths
I didn't submit for round one, so if that's not allowed I'll just play along I'm not a fan of decorating, but I was inspired to build a new home and this challenge perfectly fit that.
The Smiths are what I consider traditionally unique. They try their best to fit in since they know they are very clearly different (hint, it's the green skin). So with that they remodeled the eclectic house that resided on 2 Cover Up Road into a familiar suburban home. Obvious heavy use of a certain color as the lady of the house is particularly fond of it
Required Images
Additional Images
The entrance of the home, showing off some of PT's treasured garden.
Right to the left of the main door is a little computer alcove. It's the family computer and the children but be monitored of course :P
The open plan kitchen and dining room. Jenny is busy making some cookies for her family and Johnny is of course chatting on the phone with Ophelia Nigmos.
The family room which is separated from the rest of the main floor. Originally I had it all open plan, but I thought a distinct living room was more appealing.
The cozy bay window overlooking the backyard. Everyone's a sucker for window seating and the Smith's are not excluded!
The simple master bedroom for PT and Jenny. With my favorite feature of the house, their exclusive patio overlooking the pool (and a special telescope for PT).
Just one shot of Johnny's uniquely shaped room. He of course also has a desk to study at and a lift machine to keep in tip-top shape.
And of course, we have Jill's room with many hints to her interest in animals and marine life. I'm glad I was able to take advantage of the mirror placement to show off the other side of the room.
To close up, here's another shot of the backyard. I love the little birdhouses and can totally see the family crafting them together.

Sorry you guys, I totally forgot about play along comments!
@Justpetro One of my favourite things about this is Ajay's grided off sand counting area, very creative solution to a tricky want! His dark house has that 'stay away!' vibe. Your floor plans are too far away for me to see. I am having to squint hard to even tell that's a kitchen. Good masculine colour scheme.
@AndrewGloria I really like your garden, good use of desert plants. Practical floor plan, Ajay has plenty of room there. I like his basement. I don't care for the red and white paint on the house, that would draw peoples attention. I don't think he would want all those people through his house either since the guy came to Strangtown to be alone. I guess it grew on him fast!

Round 2 Entry - The Smith Family
Editing... Done now.The Smiths are in many ways a typical suburban family, at least, as PT9 understand it. And, a suburban family person's home is his castle.
The Smiths also clashed with the Council over the zoning regulations. Only desert appropriate landscaping is allowed, so no lawn! However, the Council was forced to concede that an oasis counts as desert appropriate! But PT got his lawn anyway. He put it on the flat roof, where the Council can't see it.
The living space is open plan, so Jenny can still be with her family while cooking. The study corner is where PT clips his coupons.
Upstairs is mainly for the children. They each have a bedroom, and share a bathroom and play space. Johnny is into purple at the moment. He would have painted the whole room purple if his parents had allowed it. I bet he hates that colour six months from now.
PT was concerned over Jill's desire for an ocean themed blue room. He thought little Earth girls were only supposed to like pink? Jenny told him crossly that Earth girls were allowed to prefer any colour they chose! So Jill got her blue room.
Notes under spoiler:
N.B. My camera zooms in too close to get a view of the whole lot top down, so I have uploaded 2 shots, front and back.
N.B. The cooker hood is a smoke alarm.
N.B. I messed up the swimmable lake slightly. Its perfectly usable, but the sims swim with their faces under water and only the tops of their heads sticking out, so no pictures. I guess I placed the floor a click or so lower than it should have been.
Edited to change Front shot: I forgot to put the roof up!

Round 2 - 2 Cover Up Road
All the Single ladies!
Quote:
24th May 2018 Strangetown Dear Miss Curious It is a pleasure to inform you that the town council of our great Strangetown has decided to assign the house on 2 Cover Up Road to you and any other members of your household. The house is in need of some repairs, as such, the council has decided a budget of 80.000 simoleons is enough to bring it up to code. You are free to redecorate and change the layout of the inside, nevertheless the outside shell must remain. Further stories can be added at your discretion and the platforms can be removed. Do note that you are free to repaint the exterior. We hope you the best for the rest of your life here in Strangetown. Best regards, Town Council of Strangetown |
The Singles are a household of roommates. They have their fair share of problems, but can they overcome their differences and live a peaceful life in Strangetown? After three different decoration attempts of their new house, it seems like they still have major disagreements. They finally agreed on the current design, after several complaints from their neighbours about the noise their arguments made.
When the Singles arrived at 2 Cover Up Road, they thought it was a very... curious house, though it had some potential. They removed most of the platforms straight away and added two more stories on the front of the house to gain some extra living space. They decided to redecorate in an Art Deco approach. The outside kept its black and white scheme, as well as being covered partially in desert-coloured bricks - they saw those bricks in Ajay's house and they loved it, they had to include some in their house as well!
They needed two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Chloe and Lola decided to share a room, while Kristen and Erin shared the other. The two bathrooms are located on either end of the ground floor. As for fixtures, the house is fully equiped with anything they might need: Kristen has an exercise bike to keep fit for as long as she stays in Strangetown; Lola has her own study in the third floor - with amazing views from the round windows! -; Chloe has a sophisticated phone and plenty of mirrors, as well as a double bed, for any of her very productive activities; and Erin has a tribal mask above her - purple, as expected - bed that, she claims, helps her develop her psychic powers.
For the outside, the Single ladies decided to add a bit of grass to all the sand, making a pretty pathway that leads to the entrance.
Here are the photos the town council took during their inspection of the lot:
Again, I believe I didn't break any rules. Please do inform me if I have and I will make the necessary corrections. I gave the house two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, as required, and I also tried to incorporate elements of every girl's personality.
I really love Art Deco. I had lots of fun making over this lot, although it was a very tricky one to decorate. I couldn't go for the opulent, luxurious style Art Deco is commonly associated with, instead I had to opt for a lower class Art Deco. But even if you're not on an unlimited budget, you can still go Art Deco - I guess Machine Age and its mass production do have their benefits! Anyway, hope you like my makeover of the Curious house. So far I've seen great builds!
To celebrate, I'll head over to the fermented fruit juice bar. Justpetro, prepare the drinks!
