I'm not sure I'm following... The thread you've linked to is about changing ambient light and shadow directions.

i got it to work but it only stays twighlight from 6pm to 7pm. Is there anyway to make it longer? I want it to be twighlight from 4pm to 8pm. how do i do that?

You would have to modify the settings somehow. Go back into the code you put into the lighting.txt file, and see if theres a certain time limit with each light transition, if there is, edit it, and set it to the times you want.

does the lighting change gradually?

It can change progressively if you change the transitionTimes parameters.

Lighting.txt is in C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights
