I dont really understand exactly what you meant with "create custom paintings from pictures on your own computer in Sims 2", sorry but it has been too long since I played Sims 2, but usually in Sims 4 I can paint from reference, it means you can arrange stuffs/landscape with your own preferences and then let your sims paint them, its probably the most customized type of painting. In Sims 4, you still can create custom paintings from pictures on your own computer, I mean if you have a picture, you can use GIMP/Photoshop to copy/paste it to a painting frame mesh (Joolster has an excellent set http://jools-simming.tumblr.com/pos...ent-frames-that)

alternately, if you have some skills with recolors, Nmbrswoman on TSR put up a bunch of blank canvases specifically for peeps to recolor.

In the Sims 2, when painting from reference (I don't remember the actual name of the interaction.), right after taking the shot, you could alt-tab and go into you game folders to find an image file of the shot you just took. You could edit that picture however you wanted as long as you did it before the sim started painting and the sim would then paint whatever you changed the image to.

@MattBrancher I believe they should bring back that feature because it sounds awesome, thats basically the "recolor" in TS4 without Photoshop !
