What if you partition them out into different folders and then switch them out as needed. Lets say you have a collection of cc you downloaded specifically for a building project - well put it all into a downloads folder and only add it when you know you are having a sim go to that building or intend to play that building. I'm just kind of spit-balling here since I don't know what all cc you have but I have like CC for a casino, a laundromat, a masquerade ball etc and I could probably remove those if I knew I wasn't going to use them but keep them around, outside of my EA folder in case I need to put them back in when I want to do masquerade pics or have sims go to specific cc-heavy places I built.
This is why I have more than 1 computer for "Simming" I have multiple laptops, and two (Third one on the way, the XP machine will be retired, and repurposed) mid-tower gamers for my Sims, and my other games (Beyond Good and Evil, System Shock II). ALL my "Simming" machines have nVidia graphics.

Each computer has a unique set of "hoods", and CC. I play one for a month maybe, then go to the next one, etc.

One T420, "The Terminator" has my "destitute" hoods on it.... No cars, except for the sky cycles. Has horses, buggies, swords, throwing axes, assault rifles, ray guns, etc.
Much bloodletting. :p

Most Sims using dirty clothes, busted looking household items, ratty , and "distressed" houses, and CC.

One T420, is dedicated to the "Ottomas Empire". Didn't realize JUST how big this hood would get, and just how dominant of a presence the Ottomas clan would have! I'm playing this one at the moment. LOTS of fun!

I have one with only Maxis hoods, and Sims on it.
One with Cydonia, and Simsylvania (Simsylvania has working schools) GO SIMBERWOLVES!!!.
Cydonia is weird! I have two instances, where cousins have Tri-Bolt attractions for one another!

I have one dedicated to Strangetown, and Smorgia (The Smeach state! Ever eat a Smorgia Smeach?).

I have SEVERAL others with mixed hoods.
One that features "Smoogoslavia", "Simtucky", "Cinnabar", and will be adding "Smexas" soon!

One with Sims Medieval, Castaway stories, and Life stories.

One as a back up in case one of the others takes a dump (hasn't happened yet).

Maybe SIMelissa, can save up some ducketts, and get herself a second "Simming" machine.

Just a thought.

I am almost ready to start playing Sims again. This time, I'm setting up my Sims differently. I plan to create multiple game folders (not just multiple Downloads folders). I got the idea from this thread: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=595985

Thankfully, this SimMachine has more than 300GB of unused hardware space, so multiple downloads folders won't be a problem -- so long as I don't let any one downloads folder get too big. When I create my Downloads folders, I should probably keep Charmful's idea in mind of installing some CC only when I need it. My current CC is fairly organized, but it will need to be organized better -- or at least differently.

The plan is to slowly work on setting up a downloads folder for a pioneer hood, similar to what Aysarth has done. I think I might also like a hood that is predominately alien. Of course, I'll also attempt to play my saved Legacy hood, though I'm not sure what problems to expect since some of the CC I deleted was created using NPCs. And I recently read that NPC-based CC should not be deleted. Ooops!

As for the new SiMachine, well, I don't see that happening any time soon. It seems like such a frivolous purchase for a machine that's used only for Sims 2 and Netflix. But who knows what I might be able to pull off in a year or two. At least I know whose brain to pick for system specs! :-)

An entire Ottomous Empire, Kunder? Good thing you were able to breed the ugly out of them! BTW ... I was visiting family in a neighboring city today and drove down a street named Smerber. Next thing I know, I'm chanting, "Smerber. Smeach. Smorgia." My son thought I was crazy. I told him it was a Sim thing, which seemed to satisfy him. LOL

Want to really convince him your cheese has slipped off your cracker?(This MIGHT be a GOOD thing ) Give him a peach, tell him it's a Smeach from Smorgia, and that Skoda Khzyvfonhes, gave it to you, to give to him. Write the name down, and give it to him.... Tell him to figure out how to pronounce it, because you can't. .

I'm glad I was able to indirectly amuse someone! Made my crap day, MUCH better!

That's funny, now I think about it, my Aunt lived in El Cerrito. Seems I remember a "Smerber", or "Serber" road in that area. Hmmmm... Probably just coincidence.

I'm thinking it's not a coincidence. :-)

Yeah, I realized that. I think it's the same road we're talking about. Small world, ay?

If you want to use Smorgia, I'm fine with it. In that hood, The Gilberts live on "Swampy Sims Road". Sounds like a good name for a Sims webpage. Maybe I'll make one someday.

All of my favorite Sims, have been "re-mastered", and live in my smorgia, and Simsylvania hoods.

As it turns out, I can't salvage my 6-month-old saved game. I had Store Edition installed when I played it, so it needs to SE to run. This time, I installed without Store Edition -- and I want to remain rid of that useless "EP". So, today I will be start my legacy game from scratch. I'll be using a different, but similar character as the one I started in December.

Yesterday, I set up a game that I can use to learn how to build decent houses. I was inspired to learn after following Jo's Community Spirit Contest. One of the participants suggested I try copying some of the lots to get a better idea of how things are done. Great idea! I'm looking forward to pulling out the hammer and nails.

The historic game will have to wait until I've done more reading. I want to dive in with as much reality in place as possible. (ie: no shiny metal mailbox, no stainless steel garbage can, no motorvehicles, etc.)

I will be looking for your first post on your new legacy game. I am sure that I will find it interesting. There are a number of people around that play historical games, especially medieval ones. Check out some websites devoted to that type for cc and you should find plenty. I know of a couple medieval ones: http://www.medievalsims.com and http://themedievalsmithysims2.blogspot.com also I know that there is a goodly amount here on MTS. For example child_of_air http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=32694

One of the best places to look for links to medieval sims 2 stuff is Almighty Hat's page https://hat-plays-sims.dreamwidth.org/34965.html

I have a working Sims game again. Hooray! I've used a mini Downloads folder with only a small portion of my hoard -- I mean collection.
I posted an introductory piece in this forum.

The main Downloads folder is still a mess, what with me losing all the pics that show me what is what. I guess it's a good excuse to start culling again. If I can't find a photo or figure out what it is, it goes. That way I can make room for more stuff! Except this time, I'm going to make two Downloads folders. One for modern times and another for my historical.

Make sure to have your two Downloads folders organized with lots of subfolders so that you can find things easily. This makes it a lot easier to see what is what, I don't keep pictures or text files in my Downloads folder, but I still know what stuff is because I have subfolders and I name the subfolders so that they tell me what is there.

Default Hoarding
My name is SIMelissa. And I am a Hoarder!

I started a new game with an empty neighborhood and a sparsely filled Downloads folder.
Then I realized I needed a way for my Sims to wash without plumbing. And I needed a way for them to decrease their bladder without plumbing.
Both of these are easy fixes, but . . .
In searching for what I needed, I found a ton of new stuff that I wanted!
I told myself "No!" and exited the page.
Then I went changed my mind, but couldn't find what I wanted.
So I did a search, and found even more stuff that I wanted -- and possibly need.
Yeah, I think they're things I'll need.
I'll download 'em all and put them all in a folder for later -- just in case.

You and me both!
My downloads folder is chock full of a plethora of redundant custom content
Time for "summer cleaning" I suppose...
