Now I'm not opposed to making money, not at all, but that's what Patreon is for.

I think the problem is you're not really supposed to be making money off if it at all considering it's EA's game. If it were MY game I wouldn't be happy about people being forced to pay OTHER people to enjoy a game I made.

YEAH! hahahaha most people don't like it when you squeeze from the middle because then they have to try and push all the toothpaste from the end once the top part empties...

Anyway yeah I got nothing against creators wanting donations. I gave a donation to a simmer for his last skin set, I prefer that to Adfly. Perhaps if Adfly didn't try to install crap on my computer...

I think asking for donations should be the only legal avenue people can take in terms of profit from a video game. EA needs to amend their ToS and EULA, and if this is already in there, then they need to fucking crack down on places that aren't even subtle about making large amounts of profit. Especially by exploiting site visitors by forcing them through adfly links or imposing lengthy unnecessary wait times for anyone not willing to shell out some monthly cash. And calling it a "donation" doesn't make it look any less like a purchase if it's the only way to acquire said item, even if it makes a tidy legal loophole :\

But maybe this is just my opinion.

I guess the 'TS2 generation' got so tired of pay/donation sites most of us offer our downloads for free.

Yeah, it seems like Adfly is replacing the Pay/Donation sites that were mostly a thing during TS2's lifespan. The only creator I can think of who still uses that shit is NewSea, and most people just reupload their hairs for free on the booty or when they do retextures.

I think donations are not only a legally and morally sound way for creators to make money on the internet, but I also strongly believe it's the only proper way to make money on the internet for any content creator. We're seeing this on YouTube, where some channels have seen their income through YouTube reduced to just a fraction of what it used to be, and that's not taking into account YouTube's ridiculously intolerant policies on being advertiser-friendly and all that.
Basically, unless you're a good little slut who never swears, doesn't hold political views, and casually praises their capitalist overlords, you're not going to get any money. They decide that for you. It's things like Patreon and GoFundMe that remind us what makes the economy - people, not shareholders.

And I'm glad that these things now exist, because I'll certainly be making use of them in the future.

TBH if EVERYTHING operated on a donation principle It would guarantee quality products and service from EVERY company. No company would dare provide anything but the best quality they are able if they knew unsatisfied customers weren't obligated to pay for their services!

I imagine TS4 would be a very different game if EA knew they would only make money if their players were satisfied with the product they provided...

If this were the case, I'd have payed a hellofa lot more for Stardew Valley than I did for TS4! xD

(at OP) I know this isn't helping you fix your ad.fly problem lol but this thread makes me want to vent. I refuse to even download from creators that use those methods. I had to reinstall windows on my computer after downloading a few things that sent me through ad.fly links. I can't really afford to replace my pc and for a bit there I thought it was done for good. So for any creator who thinks ad.fly ruining computers is not a real thing it absolutely CAN happen. And if this happens to a person who has less than the (limited) knowledge of computers that I do they might have thought they had to buy a new one. It took me awhile to fix what ad.fly did and their were a lot of frustrating hours of troubleshooting involved. Thank god I didn't lose any files but it was still a horrible experience. Now I pay for malware bytes and that really helps but I still won't bother with ad.fly.

I'm sure if someone bring it to their attention than something would or should be done about the issue. The Terms of Service is even on their website.

I get why content creators like to use ad.fly. But I never download from those, because nowadays advertisement networks are one of the major sources for malware. As long as these networks don't find a way to clean that up, I just avoid them. Ad.fly is like the bottom of that barrel. The amount of fake advertisements that try to make you click buttons, the ad- and malware is just too much of a problem with them.

Just one nasty trojan infection can destroy a lot of your work, or worse, steal sensitive information. And not all virusses are easily removable or even detectable by your updated virusscanner (0day).

So any site that does not work for me when using an adblocker and noscript, I just won't visit. I feel for the website admins when they ask me to disable those plugins, but as long as they are not in a position to guarantee safe ad content, I will not listen to their pleas. I wish some organisation would sue one of those ad networks that has delivered malware multiple times. Atm those ad networks keep putting their automated aqcuisition and selling above safety vs malware. This really has to stop. But yeah, internet and legal jurisdiction is a bitch.

Whenever I'm faced with that horrible site, I use Safari and if that doesn't work, I use Firefox (only if the other doesn't work) to download them. Hope this helps somebody.

And, like all great advances in technology, it probably started with porn.

I have a ton of cc. Although I'm not a patient person I wait the five seconds. At least it's not as bad as shorte.st which literally downloads random exe files while you're waiting.

I mean, these people need to make money if this is what they do for a living. I don't understand why anyone would donate to a patreon or something with just money out of their pockets if they're not really dedicated to that person's work. I don't have a patreon so I don't know how it works but I assume you can't make a decent income off of just patreon.

I agree with the above which is why I cant have an absolute stance on this. I cant recall whether I made this scenario up after thinking too hard about it or if I read it somewhere but its about someone who may be bedridden, so they cant work, but they can and do enjoy playing the sims and making content and so in their case the extra income be it .5 cents per download, is still very important to them.

If everything operated on a donation principle, it'd be a new shade of socialism and it'd be glorious. See: Americans using GoFundMe to pay for their medical bills, crowdfunded games, politics-related petitions et cetera.
And you guys are absolutely right about Patreon and things like that, it's a great and not at all objectionable way to make some money on the side.
