I am using GIMP also, and I am having the same trouble trying to make a new hair color that doesn't change the default one. I've downloaded some from other people, so I know it is possible. I found this
tutorial done by the gal who made the green recolors listed above in this post, I did everything that she'd done, but she mentioned alpha channels, something I didn't know about, so I looked that up for GIMP and found
this . I've yet to try it because I got so frustrated trying to figure out what I was doing wrong that I had to take a break. LOL! But I thought I would post this for those of you looking for suggestions. I'm not sure if this info will help, but it's something more to go off of. Good luck!
ETA: So I went and tried my own suggestions and still had issues, then a "genius" thought came upon me. Did I change the swatch color in Color Magic? Nope, I hadn't. Once I did that I didn't have any issues with my hair showing up in the demo. You can check out my few practice creations
here. So if you are having issues with your hair not showing up, make sure you've changed the original swatch color in Color Magic before you save the package. Hope I could help someone. Happy creating!
