I love the look of the changes, but HATE that the download link is not on the same page as the image!
When I download I also save the pic with the same name so that I know what it is. So now I have to look at the image, click a tab and wait for it to load, save the file (which does not always seem to want to save if I do not leave it open until it is done) Click back to the first tab save the picture and then click yet a third tab to look for other related files. My wrist and arm are already killing me (carpal tunel) after just a few downloads, and I am having to consider if I can download from this site anymore.
Like I said I love the look and can appreciate the effort but it make downloading VERY difficult for me.

Inge: You can get to the Social Groups forum from the site map. But yes, I noticed that there was no link too so I'll add one.

CAOSB: I guess you missed the whole thing I said in the very first post when I mentioned that you could switch it back to the old layout, huh?

Tumblr - Yes, I have a blog. :)

Delphy,

I hope this explains what the problem is that I'm having.

I think that most of us who want the download link and and the overview (with images) on the same tab actually prefer your new format except for this single, albeit important, desired change. Following along in this thread, we've all seen you work with users to change comment views, so it hasn't been unreasonable to hope that you might be persuaded to merge the Download and Overview tabs. If that's absolutely not going to happen, it would be helpful for you to make that clear so that those concerned can stop trying to convince you that it's worth doing. If the change is a no-go, it's nice to know that returning to the old view is an option.

I am sorry I guess I did. I will investigate that option. Thanks.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's me and not CASOB that you want to yell at

On re-reading, I can certainly see how my post could look like blatant ingratitude, and that's definitely not what I intended. In Delphy's reply to CASOB, he sounded like he was a bit fed up with people asking about the download tab. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't - that's for him to say. My post - which sounds very snippy and prissy on my re-read - was supposed to be helpful.

I also love the new layout, except for the same thing CASOB was giving feedback about, which happens to be the single thing that is singled out by most people at the other forums where I read and/or hang out as the thing they would like to see done differently. On scanning the thread, while there are plenty of people bringing it up here, it's certainly not the #1 topic as it is elsewhere.

I have no idea how much trouble it is to make a tabbed interface, or to change one. I'm guessing it's not easy. If Delphy were to say definitively that he wasn't going to make changes to a certain feature, then one would hope that people would stop asking to have it changed or giving feedback as to why they don't like it. At any rate, I'd drop it, so I'm guessing others would, too.

I probably still look like an ass, but I hope it's a little clearer that my intentions weren't malicious.

jadin,

I appreciate the feedback, and I do love how people on other sites discuss the changes here too. I'm still not entirely convinced, however, that moving the download files (and everything else on that panel) is the best way to go.

Remember that we are not just talking about the simple matter of moving only the files you click on and download. We are also talking about the EP compatibility boxout, the New Mesh/Recolour/CEP boxout, the Meshes needed boxout, and the thanks button. When you move the entire lot back to the Overview tab along with the screenshots and the description then you are essentially back to the old layout and then there really isn't much point in me wasting my time on doing this new one.

As I've also mentioned, 3/4 of the threads only have one file attached. With that said I have done a layout that has the contents of the download tab on the overview tab (and does away with the download tab completely) but as mentioned above it's way too cluttered and limits the usefulness of the entire layout.

Corsetcrush,

I think I see the issue. If you use the New Thread button located directly on the Social Groups page itself it works. But if you view the group first and then click New Thread it doesn't. I'll investigate and fix. Thanks for the screenshot.

Just for the record, it wasnt the opinion, or the feedback on the tab(s), it isnt even the fact that no matter what you do, someone will be unhappy. At the end of the day, a forum, in it's most basic form, is for the Community, and it is their site, so they should have a large say on how it is laid out etc.

It might be for the community but ultimately, at the end of the day, *I* am the one who has to code and maintain things and a lot of the changes are becuase *I* think them up and want to do them and not neccesarily becuase the "community" wants them.

Delphy, I`ve asked this before, but haven`t seen an answer. I`ve seen you post spoiler-style quotes. I`ve seen other people post spoiler-style quotes. As I also see quotes being posted that aren`t spoiler-style, I conclude that one has to do something different from the standard [quote] tag to get this result, and it clearly isn`t as simple as enclosing a quote in spoiler tags, unless you`ve done something to make the system treat that special, because the button does not show as a standard spoiler button.

How do we do this? I want to be able to do this too!

deleting social groups?
Maybe I'm a ditz, but I can't find the button for nuking "Cat's Private Test Group". It was only for testing and doesn't need to clutter up the server. Feel free to nuke.

Cat, deletion of social groups is currently not supported.

GeneralOD, the posting of spoiler style quotes is a user option (Edit Options -> Show Quotes as Spoilers), and shouldn't affect how you see quotes (unless you have that option turned on). However, it's still in beta, and I'm pretty much the only one who uses it...

Delphy, what gets me is that, for me, the viewing of quotes in spoiler format is INTERMITANT on a quote-by-quote basis. Certain quotes always display that way. Most never do. None change on a view-by-view basis. The pattern of which quotes do and which do not is unclear, but most of the ones that do seem to be yours. I do not believe that I have any user-option set to display quotes as spoilers on a global basis. [...but I do believe that I *have* such an option...] Is this option supposed to set how we view quotes, or how others view quotes we post?

Yes, HugeLunatic, that is exactly what I said it couldn`t be. [See post # 111 above.] Thank you, though, for trying.

Edit: Delphy, did you know that messages from Private Groups I am not a member of are showing on my New Posts listing? Might it be possible to filter them out, without filtering out messages in Public Groups?

GeneralOD: It's supposed to set how you view quotes but it doesn't work properly (hence why I said it's in beta).

As for groups - you dont have access to the threads anyway so even if you clicked on them you couldn't read them. I'll have to modify the code when I get some time to not show any threads from the groups forum except those threads in groups you have joined.

Delphy, please do not filter out messages from PUBLIC non-member groups! Only from PRIVATE non-member groups.

Thank you for the information. I think it would be interesting to have an option to post quotes that others would see as spoiler-style buttons, by using a modified Quote tag.

Screenshots on the Downloads tab are VERY helpful, thank you Delphy.
We get the uncluttering benefit of tabs, but can see what we're downloading, yay!

If it will restore your sense of normalcy, though, I *could* complain...
Ahem. I hate screenshots on the downloads tab! I hate tabs! Bring back QExpress! I hate changes and new stuff! I want requests! The mods rejected my upload after I spent a WHOLE 5 MINUTES on it! Pineapple!
