Just some small words to make you feel what TOWNIES can do to someone.
I AM from birth unable to kill. In my life time (very long indeed) I killed two creatures - one chicken and one dog. The chicken was made for diner when I was the only one home grown-up enough to make a diner. The dead chicken made me vegetarian for a life time.
The dog was crashed over by a car and had all the legs smashed like a pannekake and was suffering the hell. I sent him to the Dog's heaven but cannot forget it for all my life time.

I'm not able to kill my Sims either, but my first blood taste was when I killed a Sim named Goopy 'sGarbo or something alike. It was just fun and after that I killed already a bunch of Townies with crashed flat nose and enourmous mouth on much more enormous cheek - and it had been a lot of fun.

I abominate that!

I am too a bit confused here. Most of the NPC's are ugly, I want to create everyone myself. I have a different neighborhood, I only have elven families living there, and then it's disturbing to have all these NPC's with normal ears running everywhere =) Is it possible to create every single NPC and never see them others ever again?

I haven't tried this yet, but I think if you use the cheat listed here, and then you don't generate townies, you could make a bunch of sims and use InSiminator to move them out of the lot as townies and npcs. I am guessing you'd need to assign them to various roles, though, like maid. I am not sure how to do that part.

OK, but if anyone find out how, please tell! I've tried that thing wi´th the InSiminator, and they walk around in the streets and such, but not yet have I seen anyone as a postman or anything like that...

kittenish, you need to use Sim Surgury with SimPE and do each one seperately

I have a question about this tut as well- how does getting the expansin pack affect this? I recently purchased Nightlife, and I had options to "create all EP2 NPCs" and to create DownTownies... do I have to do this as well? And, I'm assuming people with the Uni expansion pack would be interested in the answers to similar questions as well...

Is it bad if I did both? Will I have too many NPC's?

Kittenish--For the Legacy challenge at Simpixels and Graphics (ezboard forum), we've been creating custom townies by using the deleteallcharacters cheat coupled with J.M. Pescado's no townie regen hack. NPCs will be recreated as per normal but townies will not, thereby allowing you to truly customise them. Townies/Dormies/Downtownies are then created in CAS, moved onto a lot, and made to be townies by use of Inge's hacked Teleporter Plus shrub under 'teleporters,' I believe). Once cleared off the lot, they act as townies. SimSurgery was used on NPCs.

I'm not very good at explaining things so I can try to find the link outlining it if you'd like.

It sounds complicated perhaps, but it's quite simple. I don't see the point of deleting all your townies only to have Maxoid townies regenerate in their place, either. *scratches head*

but that won't happen if you use pescado's hack, right? god, the default npc's and townies are so friggin' ugly lol.

I have sims 2, uni and nightlife.. I mentioned that as the create NPC option is different than that for the base game..I deleted the characters from the folder as instructed...opened the game, entered the cheat and used the mailbox for Debug create NPC's..You can create ordinary NPC's and/or EP2 NPC's.. I chose the EP2 option for now..I waited with a blank screen for a while and it then informed me that they were created..Next I chose Townies..you have a choice here, Townies and Down Townies..first I chose Townies and it shows you each character it creates, I ended up with 30 characters..then I chose Down Townies, this was like creating NPC's, nothing appears to be happening, but just wait..after a while it said it had finished creating them..I saved and left the game, opened SimPE to check and yes, all new characters..

Alright, having all the EPs, I have tried this with some limited success. Mind you there will be a very weird looong pause while game loading and neighborhood loading when you delete everything in the characters directory. No idea why, however it will eventually proceed. Creating NPCs went just fine, it takes a while and you have to keep the game in Play not Pause, the Fortune Teller will come around to the lot the second she's created too. So far it seems the game just needs the NPCs, you can be completely without Townies without any real problem. Create NPCs will create every single NPC including the Poll. Tech. However I run into problems with Create Townies, after anywhere from 0 to 6 Townies it comes up with an error in the "Community Lot Populator", Create Downtownies fails after 0 created in the same manner. However I still went through it a couple of times, each time it fails you have to leave the lot and come back to be able to create any Townies (maybe even restart the game). However I was still able to create about 15 or so Townies doing this, I have about 87 character files right now where I had 120 something before so obviously I dont have nearly as many Townies.

However, you do get random names and faces with this method and its quite refreshing not to deal with the default NPCs and Townies.

I wish somebody could make an external tool to create NPCs and Townies for a neighborhood because I'd really like to make a proper neighborhood with fully custom NPCs and Townies without alot of fuss (like building them as families and such).

I had the same problem with the CLP error on residential and community lots. I finally decided to not create the NPCs and Townies after deleting them, but let the game generate them as needed. Just head to a community lot a couple times and the Townies will come.

I need to try creating townies without deleting the existing ones. Could be we are experiencing a new "feature" of deleteallcharacters.

Simlogical is closed, but you can get the teleporter, and most, if not all of the other simlogical stuff here. The teleporter is in the 10th thread from the top.

I too have run into this problem. I came on here with this from my logs report. I have no idea what it means. I was able to create the NPC'S but not the townies. Is this something new since OFB? I was able to create new townies before with no problems.

Thank you, this method has worked for me so far today. I have a unique set of townies (or at least a set I haven't seen before) for my custom neighborhood, and as a bonus my male maid is wearing pink instead of the default lavender. Some things I noticed along the way:

When I went to generate the townies, I was presented with options of generating townies or downtownies. I chose townies and later let the game generate its own downtownies by adding a Downtown neighborhood later. I had about 87 character files before adding the Downtown (I exited first) and 166 after making a downtown and having my expendable pioneer sim hire some service people and visit the downtown. Saw typical versions of The Diva, Mr. Big, and Mrs. Crumplebottom (I hear she's not a character in this sense.) If I'd chosen Downtownies for the base neighborhood, would I have the "improved" variety with the better jobs & inventory items or would they just look different?

I was also asked whether to generate random skin tones. I wasn't sure on this; I don't have any custom skins installed, so chose "no" to test whether every townie would end up with the same skin. They didn't, thankfully. So I wonder what that option does. Some of the townies have newer hairstyles from the EP's including OFB, which I like.

When the game was generating townies, the pop-up showed some progress. Perhaps because I'm playing the Holiday Edition of Sims2, it showed what looked like 3 Father Times, 3 Santa's, and some identical toddlers which I'm assuming could be Baby New Year or maybe adoptables. I saw the Grim Reaper. Sometimes the progress seemed to skip a number, but I'm hoping it just skipped displaying it. Sometimes the window showed no face.

I haven't had any problems with buy or build mode being disabled with the pioneer I played for this neighborhood. I didn't get a good look at the taxi that he arrived in, but it might have departed without a visible driver.

If you update this, perhaps include at the end of instructions to enter "boolProp TestingCheatsEnabled false", I almost forgot!

If you download a new set of default CAS faces, get rid of all of the existing 'extras' (townies, etc.), then generate new extras, the new extras will be created using the new default CAS faces.

I went through this whole process after installing a new set of default faces - reinstalled my game and started over from scratch, even! However, I got (and continue to get) an error when I tried the mailbox cheat to generate new extras. I ended up reloading my original game files, and now I am stuck with ugly townies again. It's so sad! I guess I could change all of the ugly townies to be more attractive one-by-one, but then if I want them in the gene pool, I'll have to go in and change their genetics to match their new faces one-by-one, too. That could take a while!

Hey - I tried this method on a custom neighborhood, and none of my NPCs were regenerated.
I have PETS, and when I looked at my other neighborhoods, all but my object folder NPCs were listed as regular townies, which could be the problem.

Do you have any idea how to a)regenerate the townies so as to be able to use SimSurgery or b)label my Sims as NPCs so the game will recognize them as maids (etc)?

5) Delete ALL of the files in the Characters folder, but do NOT delete the folder itself
6) Load the game and go to your custom neighborhood, and create a new family
7) Move your family into a lot, either one from the houses bin or a empty lot, it doesn't matter
8) Press Ctrl-Shift-C on your keyboard to bring up the cheat box, then type "boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true" and press enter
9) Hold down Shift and click on the Mailbox, go to the option that says Debug-Create NPCs (or something similar, but do not select the townies option yet) and press yes when asked, the game should then start to slow down and pause as it creates the characters, you should see their portrait come up when they are created. Do not shut down the game or restart your computer as it does this, you can inadvertently destroy your neighborhood.

but i tried but it has a whole bunch of kinds of NPCs like head vampires and kinds of NPCs like that can't you just make reguler NPCs?

So I have only Orignal Sims 2 (my computer is too old to play any of the expansions with it without it dying within a 1/2 hour. T-T ) and I got an error when I tried to make new townies. and now the adults in my neighborhood (not the kids, for some odd reason) keep getting "stuck" in the middle of interactions and I have to "reset" them.. its weird. but I'm going to try it from scratch.

I have a little question not exactly about this method.
Is there any way to delete some of those Sims that show up when you are creating in bodyshop or CAS? I never use them and they just make the game slower, and are not that goodlooking! I think it needs to preserve at least a base to each age. Is that possible?
Thanks.

If I move all of my Sims from their houses, into the "Sims Lot Bin", I mean moving the whole house into that menu, will they be affected by the deleteallcharacters? Also, if I make say, one set of Townies with one set of CAS face replacements, and then take them out, and put new ones in, will they affect Sims that have already been born? Can I create a set of Townies with one set of faces, and then downtownies with another?
