I've never used cheats in Uni. I think Uni is way too easy which is why I've never used any cheats and all my sims graduate, get 4.0 GPA, make the Dean's List, etc. And I always play 4 to 8 sims in the dorm at a time (it depends on how many teens I have in my neighbourhood at the time). I think 72 hours per semester is too long. All my sims have a 4.0 grade within 18 sim hours. I normally fast forward through the remaining hours. Maxis should have made each semester 24 hours long max. |

I play univercity as normal, but when my sim has full marks I will use a hacks item to fast forward to the end of the semester. My knowledge sims get through it in no time, since they always want to do homework and what not. my other sims usually last most of the time. |

And that's the time that you should be spending micromanaging your sims' needs in between socializing, getting engaged, and going places. Not to mention fulfilling wants. People don't just sit around at University/College in real life. Why should you make them do that in the Sims? |

Thanks to all those lovely snapdragons, my teenagers fulfill their career LTW skills BEFORE they enter college! |

I agree with this. It's easy for me to max out my Sims skills, get 4.0 grade averages and get them all on the Deans list, but I play to my Sims personalities. My university is a hotbed of drama! | |

That's a great idea Do you use a hack to take the 10k out, or just familyfunds or something?

I plan on doing something similar in my current Neighborhood. I had originally considered just charging $500 (the starting amount the children usually start college with), but I could see charging quite a bit more than that as extra tuition in order to keep some families from being able to afford college. I have also instituted a rule for the Neighborhood that a college student will only return from university with an amount of money equal to that remaining at the end of their college experience. They can put anything they bought at college in their inventory and bring it back with them, but the amount of money they have will be quite low. I am using familyfunds to reduce the former student's initial $20,000 upon initial move in. I have only played one Sim through university in this manner so far, so I am unsure of the long-term ramifications or results. I can say that it makes the university experience a bit more interesting when you know that they will only start their Adult life with whatever money they earned/saved as a Young Adult. If a Sim blows all of his money on bubble blowers and juice kegs, they might be absolutely destitute when they enter adulthood! The upshot of this is that it makes the Apartments from Apartment Life actually somewhat useful, as unless the Sim came from a rich family that can spare some simoleans (using familyfunds again to manually deduct money from one family and then add it to the other) they probably will have to live in an apartment for awhile until they can save up enough money to afford a small house. |

I'm trying it now, with just familyfunds and it's really putting the game into perspective! Each semester costs 5000 simoleons, minus any scholarships they receive and I have a recently divorced stay-at-home mom picking up a job because otherwise she wouldn't be able to afford the payments for her current son in college, as well as sending her daughter when she gets of age. The one exception is the for exceptionally bright, yet broke - if a teen has 3 skills maxed, an A+ and top in their teen job but cannot afford college, they can win a full ride to university. It's only tuition and 1,000 simoleon spending money however (500 after first semester), and they must stay in a dorm for freshman year. (I might do this for all freshmans - in my Uni we were required to live in campus housng the first year :P) I'm thinking about making a loan process, where sims can borrow from the Motherlode bank if they meet certain requirements (pay bills on time, no repossessions, at a certain level of a job/have a job, etc). They would then have to make daily payments back to the bank. The only issue is that familyfunds doesn't work if you have households of the same name. I'm trying to figure a way to get around that... Yes, apartments are a must now! (or cheap townhomes). I use the No20K Handout hack, so they won't automatically get the random 20k for moving. |

Well, my last Sim graduated with 190 snapdragons, plus a few hundred eggplants. Rounding up, 200 snapdragons at 250 simoleans each costs 50,000 simoleans to create. Not only will tuition be high, but alumnis will be sorely pressed for donations... :D |

I usually play 1 to 2 days per semester instead of the 3. I also only have them do homework/write term papers/study if they roll a want. Otherwise they rely completely on attending class. It's pretty fun this way, IMO. I've had kids flunk out because they were too busy ACRing in the hot tub to go to class and they never rolled wants to do any classwork.

I started my current family with Stella Terrano - the young adult alien in La Fiesta Tech. She and her future husband went through uni, and they sent their son there. Since then, no-one has gone through university and I am on generation six. But I want to put some sims through soon because I want to get the Artists career reward without cheating. |

Is it really sad that most of the sims I make are just made in the university districts? I really cannot be bothered with the base game and other EPs anymore, so I just go and make people in the University (: And safe to say, I've had about 12 of my sims make it all the way through without cheating XD That's how obsessed I am ^^ |

I didn't know about that hack... just went and grabbed it. Thanks for the tip! None of the current generation of offspring in my current Neighborhood have become Teens yet, but I can see that charging even $500 to send them to college might put a strain on their families' finances. I should add the caveat that I also installed this wage hack to help keep the families from earning money to fast. I don't really spend much time forcing children or teens to skill; I usually let it be a natural process as they grow up. If they have a particular predilection towards a skill-building activity, then I let them do that (or overtly encourage repetition of the activity) but otherwise I don't worry too much about it. That way, when they get to college, their skills are still pretty low, and they sometimes have to work pretty hard to get that A+ (which, again, is because of hacks that shorten university length and shorten the length of the Sims in my game). I do find that the first three or four semesters of University tend to be the most fun. After that it becomes a bit of a grind. I am still not sure if it is more "fun" to plan just one Sim through University or do a whole gaggle of them at once. I think I get more satisfaction out of just running one Sim, but if I throw a whole bunch of the Neighborhood Teens in at once I can get them through all at once. I also have the luxury of just babysitting the ones that I really care about, and leaving the rest to more or less go about their business. I might babysit them to try and get them to pass, but if they flunk out I really don't care

It is ridiculously easy, which is exactly why I end up cheating them through. I get sick and tired of doing the same tedious chores over and over again (go to class, write term paper, schmooze the professors for better grades or whatever). I don't get into all of the garbage that was thrown into Uni supposedly to keep us entertained while Sims are at uni, so most of the time they're in and out. However, once I got almost all of the expansion packs (I have all of them but AL), I realized that their university experience could actually become a lot more of an education than just going to class, so I'm more inclined now to use it more as a vocational school than an actual university. I have one huge dorm that houses four students, and in that dorm they can do whatever is needed to earn any badge or do whatever it takes to increase their enthusiasm in a hobby. For some reason I tend to let a Sim's pre-destined hobby play a huge part in what happens in the life of that Sim. I just wish there was more of a connection between a Sim's pre-destined hobby and what they're going to roll up as their lifetime want, so I usually try to have their LTWs and their hobbies at least make sense for the Sim. |

Does anybody know cheats to get my sims faster trough university? Because I like it very much, but it takes so long.... But normally my sims go to university and they always seek their weddingpartners there already, so that if they are adults can get married directly and get babies.:P |

I've gone through university a couple of times. It takes rather long, but then again it's a good way to extend your sims' social circle and earn skill points, so when they graduate and become adults, there's no need to waste too much time on this stuff. |
