March 19th isn't too far away! Eeep! I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here, but I can't wait to see the first screenshots and videos...

Yeas, but I wouldn't mind if they put the same movie but in HIGH resolution.

I really want everyone to remember whatever they show us on the new site most likely will just be what they have done thus far, hence not the final product.

It's so annoying to read all the comments about the "crappy" graphics and weird looking sims. It's not what it'll look like!

I love the idea of getting rid of the meters. We can concentrate more on having fun.

I'm skeptical on the no meters thing-- until the magazine/website is up to tell us how moods and needs will be fulfilled because we need to know what they need somehow!

I agree, part of the appeal of the Sims series for me was because I was such a visual spatial person, having this information presented in the way we've all come to learn and love was key for me. Let's not forget that the first few pictures we got of the sims, or the sims 2 did not include the GUI at all, and we only saw what EA wanted us to see.

You can always just use a cheat to keep motives static, though! I really hope they keep the metres. :-/

Regarding the seamless/interactive neighbourhood - does this mean that all of our families will be doing things all at once? I like being able to focus on one family at a time, so I kind of hope any lot you're not focussed on will remain frozen in place until you go over to see what's going on in it.

Heres the full text of the email response. Thanks for the update Faith!

I just had an email from Ben Bell, Executive Producer of The Sims 3, here is what is said:

When the team first started thinking about what The Sims 3 could be, we asked ourselves the following question. What if you had to live your whole life in one location … and then one day, suddenly, you could step outside and go anywhere in the whole neighborhood?

The first thing you’ll notice about The Sims 3 is that the Sims now live in a completely seamless, living neighborhood. This means that they can walk next door, walk down the street, drive to the center of town, stroll through the park, and explore everything without ever encountering a load screen. Wherever you go in your town, you will see other Sims going about their daily lives. You’ll discover new things about the community that your Sims live in, and you will have the chance to participate whenever and wherever you like. As a player, this is an incredible innovation for me because now I can see what my neighbors are up to all of the time and go interact with them. Or if I am feeling devious I can peek through the window and spy on their every move. I can even shoot across town to see what the other families in my town are doing, any time of day or night. It’s an entirely new way to play with your Sims!

The second aspect of The Sims 3 that always impresses me is our completely reinvented and realistic Create a Sim. In The Sims 3, you have so much freedom to create the Sims that you want to make, yet it’s easy and fun. In the coming weeks, we will have some screenshots on our website that show you a small glimpse of what is possible with Create a Sim. The Sims can look like anyone you imagine. I’ve made my friends, my great grandpa, and many other important people from my life. We also have a new realistic personality system called Traits that allows you to determine the personality of every Sim. There are dozens of Traits that you can assign to your Sims. Every Trait will change the way that your Sims feel, think and behave in the game. You can choose several traits for your Sims, so it’s really possible to make any character that you can imagine and they will come to life in The Sims 3. Now imagine placing these unique personalities into your very own “Petri-dish” that is the new seamless, living neighborhood.

The third thing that I really want to share with you about The Sims 3 is that everyone will be able to customize the appearance of everything, right in the game: This is true for furniture, walls, floors, fashion, hair, and so much more. You will be able to customize the colors or patterns and apply them to everything (this is great for me in particular, as I am colorblind). You can make everything match, clash, or coordinate. It is so easy and fast, and it is incredibly powerful. What is really exciting is that you won’t need developer tools to make big visual changes to the game. We will be giving you a small taste of how this works on the website. However, I cannot wait to show you how fun this feature is when we have the final user interface in the game. The real power of this feature will be obvious when you get your hands on it. Fans of The Sims already make amazing things, and now it will be so much easier for to make and share creations. I dont know about you, but Im getting more excited every day!

I actually live in Taylor but it is a few minutes away from Detroit. *waves back*

OMG! This is freakin' amazing! I knew I was going to have a reason to get excited and start wanting this game! And I was one of the very few who believed the Free Time video. See? We just now know very little about the game and it is already much better than The Sims 2? Of course it is, EA is not going to be stupid and make TS3 not as good... hello... duh?

Okay, I need to calm from this excitement, I'm acting like a child now at age 28.

I don't know if this is something you can put in your post, but have anyone noticed the roofs on the buildings in the background on the magazine? It looks like we're going to have some fun new building tools!

Cool! Funny how it's now when I am meeting more Michiganders on here after years of being in this community.

I hope so! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if so.

Another thing... do you guys think that there will still be a neighborhood screen now that we will have a seamless town? I was just wondering about that.

I'm curious as well. In fact, the whole no-loading-screen concept is raising a lot of questions in my mind.

Don't get me wrong, I love the new seamless neighborhood... but since it is indeed seamless... how would it work? Would the nearby lots possibly be idle when you are within a certain distance and then when you have your Sim walk/drive near them they become active? If so, I still hope that we can play families separately but maybe have them autonomously do things outside just for show, just to make the neighborhood look alive and not so empty, you know? But then when you go to those families they will still go back to where you left off. That is only fair because I want to get to play with each family I create. Many of us want that, not just me.

Also, as for the needs thing, I really don't think that there won't be needs anymore, I just think that they may either not decay as quickly or be of a new system.

Maybe we'll still have a neighbourhood screen if they decide to give us more towns. Makes me wonder if the premade sims will come with a story background or not, especially since there are going to be so many of them.

I hope they will give us the option of making our own town.

This would especially suck for those who like themed neighborhoods or such.

I can't think why we shouldn't be able to make our own working hoods. Maybe we won't be able to landscape as freely as we can now (with SC4) at first, but they'll probably add some empty templates that has all the coding done to allow for roaming Sims.

Frankie -- same here

btw, there probably will be a neighborhood screen, but now maybe a 'town' screen instead?

also, what is the virtual size of these 'lots' ? previously each house would be a lot, or a shopping district or something else. maybe a lot, in the sims 3, is much larger, but still not EVERYTHING in the game world? (ie. downtown lot / suburbs lot / etc)

If it is everything, then I think it'll be a towns/cities screen at the startup. with the option of one premade, another premade, but with less tender love and care from maxis, and one that you can create yourslef.

Unless lots are separate but only seamless when playable? Because obviously we would have to have the option to build our own lots. So I am thinking that there will be a neighborhood screen that you start with and then there will be separate lots but only separate when in build mode and when playable they automatically attach to each other.
