Besides the Sims, I'm really into adventure games. I've just finished Myst IV (which is an awesome game, I recommend it to everyone) and now I'm looking for something new. I'm considering to buy Still Life, the demo seemed nice. And the not yet released Dreamfall looks like it's going to be pretty good as well. Btw, I don't think I'll be buying Myst V. It looks a lot like Uru, which I have, and I didn't really like that one. So, any suggestions? Martine

Myst V isn't like Uru so don't panic. It is a fine round off to the series. One adventure game I highly recomend is Quantic Dream's (Omnikron - The Nomad Soul) Farenheit... or if you live in America... The Indigo Prophecy (Sorry Americans but seriously wtf is up with your constant desire to change good titles in to bad. Farenheit = symbolic, The Indigo Prophecy = literal thought deficient description of a plot element). It is a very interesting take on the whole adventure genre and an attempt to take it somewhere new. If you can ignore the game's final act you will find an intellectually engaging, well characterised supernatural thriller that is one part X-Files one part NYPD Blue. Throw in some amazing fight scenes (controlled by a simple simon style mini-game that will be familiar to anyone who has played Shenmue or Dragon's Lair) and you have one incredible tale and a rivetting title. Unfortunately the adventure genre is largely dead, there are some upcoming titles of interest such as A Vampyre Tale but all up it is a bit sparse. Of course Dreamfall is a must buy based purely on the excellence of The Longest Journey which is the game's prequel. Ragnar Tornquist is at the helm again meaning success is almost 100% assured. However if it is a genre you love it is best to turn your gaming clock back a few years. Here are some highly recommended adventure titles you may not have played. Grim Fandango ![]() The greatest adventure game ever. Nothing can compare to Tim Schaffers dark comedy masterpiece. Take on the mantle of Manuel Calavera... stiff and tourist guide to the underworld. Steeped heavily in Jazz and Film Noir influences along with the Mexican folk lore the game is based on, Grim Fandango is a truely adult tale with wonderful twists, memorable characters, an amazing soundtrack and some of the best dialogue you will find this side of Planescape Torment. Speaking of which... Planescape: Torment ![]() True it isn't really an adventure title, rather an RPG. Nonetheless there are more than enough puzzle elements in this game to keep any adventure fan happy. Based on the aging Infinity Engine, Torment was the first ever foray into the rich Planescape campaign setting for Dungeons and Dragons. What makes this work of art notable is the writing and characterisation. Chris Avellone (Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords & Fallout to name a few) brought to this inspired setting a storyline so powerful that it transcends gaming and approaches literature. There is a reason this game is so often referred to by gaming industry professionals and the writing is it. One of the best games ever made and one of the best storys ever written. Syberia ![]() Sokal is a well known comic author fond of anthromorphs in his homeland of France. In 2002, he and fellow Frenchmen Microids teamed up to create a truely moving adventure in Syberia. From a mechanics point of view the game may be lacking but it is more than made up for by the magical journey the game takes the player on. Filled with beautiful backdrops, enchanting locations and a mystery that will pull at your heart strings Syberia is a game that does come highly recommended. There are many other titles I can recommend but at the moment a mate is begging me to kick his arse in Battlefield 2. I shall return. :P |

El Presidente! Shame on you for not mentioning The Monkey Island series! Sure, Grim Fandango is awesome, but the 4-part series is nothing to scoth at either! Not to mention the fourth installation is considerably more recent. Personally, I like Monkey Island 3 more than Grim Fandango, but I guess that's a matter of taste. |

hehe, no one mentioned Simon the Sorcerer either, or Legend of Kyrandia I love almost all of the old lucasarts games, but that's just what they are, old, if you can get them to run, Martine, there's a ton of abandonware adventures to get your hands on (free )recent games... there's an Agatha Christie game: 'And then there were none', which looks promising but to be honest, the latest adventure I played was Longest Journey

You won't regret it. I have it for the PS2, my only complain is with the third act. You see, the begining and the middle of the game is like a mix of The Fugitive and The DaVinci Code and by the end it becomes The Matrix... now I like The Matrix but, WTF? Other than that it's a great experience. I'm still digesting Syberia and Syberia II, this games are much more than the sum of their parts. | |

I remember playing an adventure game called "The Journeyman Project" - something like that, and it was great! I loved it. It's pretty rare though. Did anyone else ever hear about it? |

I just beat Fable: The Lost Chapters (for the first time). My chief complaint is the aging process but it doesn't affect abilities so it's not that bad. My chief compliment is the intricacy of detail and story that's presented. Every choice you make changes your alignment and how people react to you. You have a variety of options and alternate story-lines. Fighting is easy to master yet challenging opponents. I tried to carry a heavy battle-axe around when I wasn't able to yet...he dragged it behind him like a sack of potatoes--very funny if it weren't life threatening. There are some wonderful faqs and reviews around if you want to check into this game. I was up until 2 and 4 am every night/morning because I couldn't stop playing. |

Anything in the Broken Sword series. Anything in the King's Quest series. There was a really old game from a long time ago called Dare to Dream. That was an awesome game. Released some time in '93. I was so addicted to that game. |
