Secluded Country Cottage

Meet Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman, who want to build their perfect retirement getaway. Mr. Hoffman, retired surgeon, wants a country house with a large back yard where he can grow produce and a small orchard. Mrs. Hoffman, devoted home maker and mother, wants a kitchen with lots of counter space, and a spare room that can be used as a guest/sewing room.

Having found the perfect plan, all they required were a few modifications to completely suit their tastes.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman loved the plan for this house, but they found the grey stone and yellow siding exterior drab and boring. As Mr. Hoffman is a fan of Tudor-style architecture, they decided to take inspiration from the English Cottages they remembered from growing up in country England.

Back yard

Mrs. Hoffman favoured an open-style plan, and requested the counters in the kitchen be moved to the back wall, so when she and Mr. Hoffman are entertaining, she does not feel isolated in the kitchen while the guests are relaxing in the living room. Mr. Hoffman favoured a stone fireplace for the living room, as he said it would give their country cottage 'character and charm'.

Living room alternate view

Two bathrooms were a must for Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman. The master bathroom features the full bathroom set up, with toilet, sink, shower and tub, while the smaller bathroom offers a second toilet and sink. As Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman often entertain Mr. Hoffman's old collegues, or their two sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman wanted to ensure that no bathroom jams (or as Mr. Hoffman joked 'toilet rage') ensued.

Second bathroom

Finally, the master bedroom is a comfortable size to allow adequate rest and relaxation, and the large window, which gets the morning sun, lets lots of light in during day light hours. The second bedroom is large enough to accommodate two single beds, for when Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman have guests visit, or when their grandchildren stay the weekend, as well as Mrs. Hoffman's sewing machine and sewing equiptment.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman are thrilled with their new country cottage, and can't wait to move in and get settled into the quiet, country life they desire.

Top view entire property

This country cottage is situated on a 3x3 piece of land, and comes fully landscaped, complete with green house and 6 orchard trees, and with basic fixtures installed for an affordable $69,993.

clw8, Although I have no intention of joining ( my building skills=not so great ), I'd just like to say that this is an awesome contest! I love how you're having them build from real plans, it's such a great idea. I'll definitley be keeping my eye on this contest

Thanks alliemarie.

I forget who, but someone was interested in me doing this type of thing with cycle 1, however, I had then stated that I had thought about it.

And so, since I actually enjoy building from plan, I thought this would be a fun contest idea.

I'm sort of working on my lot right now but I keep getting distracted by the fact that I get to go hang out with David Draiman tomorrow. You might see my house before then if I can ever sit still.

Hello Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman, I will be showing you this beautiful two bedroom, two bath cottage. I really hope you will like what I have to show you today.

First up is the outside of the cottage. It has the mailbox next to the door for convenience. It has a fine stone touch to it and little landscaping in the front.

Here we have the kitchen. Just enough counter space for you. The counters give just a tad bit of a rustic touch to the house. The house comes with the stove and a refrigerator.

Next is the master bathroom. It has a really cozy feeling to it. You can either relax your body in the tub or jump in for a quick shower.

Here is the living room/den. It comes with a stone built fireplace. The living room is very spacious and you can decorate to your heart’s content.

And this is the garden. It has a pond that you can go fishing in. It contains a lemon tree and an apple tree, so you can make all those yummy (and healthy) juices. It comes with a ladybug hut, to keep the nasty bugs away, and a compost bin. Keep in mind that you do still have your regular trash can.

And the overhead of the whole house, including landscaping.

The house comes to a total of 49,784. I really hope you enjoyed this tour of the house.

LOL. The stone fireplace is my fave in-game, but I hardly ever use it as it doesn't fit in with my suburban lots. This was such a great lot to put it in, and I guess great minds all think alike!

Well done everyone, the round 1s look wonderful, however I'm sorry to inform you all that I can no longer participate, and forgive me for what problems this will present. Right now I'm struggling greatly with my computer and issues with playing the sims all of a sudden. This frustrates me so much because I've tried everything I could to find out what is wrong. Tonight I will be trying an alternate method to remedy this situation in the hopes that I continue. Clw8 I'm so sorry to drop out so suddenly.

Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman. I’m sure you’re going to love this cottage I’ve found for you. It’s located outside Pleasantville on the edge of the forest. A nature walk is just a hop, skip and a jump away through backyard paths. Dr Hoffman, I’m sure you’ll especially enjoy cataloguing the wild plants that can be used in holistic medicine.

This home offers all the modern conveniences in a country setting. The house is made from stone and woods in nature’s natural colors. Inside are more warm colored brick and stone, too. The main living area consists of a living room, dining room and kitchen that are all open to one another making for an impression of spaciousness. The large windows throughout show off the spectacular view surrounding the home.

Along with the main front doorway, you can enter the home through doors on each side. A double French door opens off the dining room with another exit through a mudroom to the side of the home hidden by a privacy fence. There’s a nook built into the privacy fence for yard tools and convenient trash disposal.

The Master Suite is located in the back of the ell of the home. The bedroom and bath are both done in shades of ivory waiting for you, Mrs. Hoffman to add that splash of color that someone with your creativity does so well. The front of the ell has the guest room. This room has a beautiful view of the front lawns, which are filled with flowers and greenery. Your guests will enjoy this warm room within and the scenic view without.

Off the main hallway are also a second full bathroom primarily for guest use and a small closet that contains access to the attic. The attic is unfinished but there’s plenty of room to stash craft supplies or possible set up a “work” area for either one of you to pursue your interests.

The yard is filled with natural shrubs, trees and flowers. There is a patio area in the back lawn waiting for you to set up for entertaining your family and friends. Other than the patio area, the yard is mostly untouched and blends in with the surrounding woodlands.

Dr and Mrs. Hoffman, I truly believe you’ll find this is the home you’ve been waiting all your lives for!

I'll post round 2 info in a bit.

Round 1 is due in 2.5 hours, that is if anyone else is going to join in.

Round 2 –
Peaceful Waterfront Vacation House
5/10/09 - 5/16/09

House plan LINK

The McKay's are a family of 4. That's Mr. and Mrs. McKay plus their two children Elizabeth (a 16 year old teen) and Joshua (a 10 year old child). During the summer months the family likes to go vacationing at the lake, since the beach is further away and costs more. So, they would like to have a vacationing house built on their favorite lake.

Upon looking through house plans, they came across the perfect home. Now all they need is for you to build the house for them!

First off, each member of the family has a special request:
Quote:
Mr. and Mrs. McKay would like their bedroom to be the downstairs one, and would like cool blues and whites incorparated.

Elizabeth wants the largest upstairs bedroom, and would like the bedroom to have purples, lime green, and pink colors, and she would like to have hanging paper lantern lights, instead of a generic bulb.

Joshua gets the smallest upstairs bedroom. His favorite colors are red and black. However, he is more concerned with the exterior and wants a dock so that the family will have a place to keep their jet ski's.

Special Note::: IF YOU DON'T OWN BV, DON'T WORRY! YOU DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE TO USE A BEACH LOT, AND, IT MIGHT BE MORE USEFUL TO USE A REGULAR LOT AND THE POND TOOL REGUARDLESS IF YOU HAVE BV OR NOT. But hey, if you like using the beach lots - then use them

ROUND 2 RULES!
Quote:
- The BUDGET this round is $100,000.
- Any sized lot.
- Make sure you meet the needs / desires of the client.
- You MUST add counters, lights, plumbing, alarms IN ADDITION TO:
---The McKay's also have some old furniture stored up in their attic which includes: 3 wooden beds, 2 worn sofas, a diningroom set, a few old pictures, a really small tv, 3 end tables, and 1 old lamp.
- You may choose any design of the above mentioned furniture, but just remeber that this is supposedly old stuff, so I'd choose wisely. Also, you MAY NOT add any additional furniture aside from what I have mentioned.

PICTURES
Quote:
No more than 10. Please include one top down of each floor, and atleast one exterior from the front.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman I present to you your requested Country Cottage:

This house is nestled right into the forest's edge. Surrounded by lush greenery, with views across the street of the local farmlands, this cottage is sure to give you the peace, quiet, and comfort you have requested in your new home.

We have included all the rooms and storage areas from the original floor plan. Mrs. Hoffman, you have plenty of room in the kitchen as well as in the extra bedroom should you choose to host guests, grandchildren (hopefully one day soon!), or any arts, crafts or hobbies you and Mr. Hoffman decide to pick up now that you are retired.

The master bedroom has been increased in size and the guest room made smaller. A shower was installed in the master bedroom equipped with a chair for easy showering.

The backyard has an orange tree -so you both can look forward to fresh O.J. every morning. There is also a gate which leads out to the forest, a perfect place for an afternoon stroll. The front yard has a small pond with a patch of sunflowers nearby.

I hope you enjoy your new Country Cottage

Total Cost $59,294

Sincerely:

-Kitzchy Kontractors

Sweet! I'm gonna get started right away! (I would've done a beach lot, but the water tool should be fine. ) I'm looking forward to it!

This allows me to see into the minds of people! That's right, I can actually see what they're thinking!
So long as what they're thinking is exactly what I think they're thinking.

you can still use a beach lot, tree 4 me.... I was just taking into consideration that you can't build real close to the water; unless you can, but I just don't know how.

By all means, use a beach lot if you desire

Slideshow
http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/...mview=slideshow

Well today we have a great cottage for The Hoffmans. The previous owners have transformed what was only on paper into a Victorian Cottage.

Mrs. Hoffman loves to garden and something I think will please her is the previous owners have created a gorgeous landscape. I think the flower garden on the right side is very nice. And their is a nice pond in the back, I am sure Mr. Hoffman will enjoy afternoons out their fishing for dinner.

There is even a raised vegetable garden in the back perfect to hone that green thumb. They have had problems with rabbits so the raised garden is the perfect answer.

Out front their is a gazebo with benches. Which would be a perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day with friends and cool glasses of lemonade made from their own lemons as they have a few fruit trees also.

As we step inside into the Living Room we notice a new fireplace the previous owners have just replaced. And in keeping with the Victorian theme the Great room as we call the area with the living, dining room, and kitchen has been carpeted and wallpapered in a pastel blue.

In the kitchen Victorian style meets modern appliances. While the appliance in here look older they are all brand new.

In the Dining room the previous owners have decided to leave thier dining table in the room as it goes with the room so well. Also their is a nice bay window in here.

In our over all view we can see that the layout is kept very similar in style with the floor plan. In our two bedrooms yellow and pink are the overall themes.

P.S. I truly tried posting this entry at about 1:30 and something must have happened with the pictures as I clicked to submit reply and I had to leave and when I go back just now it did not publish it. I hope you will still accept it. And sorry about the small pics it won't let me post large ones. Just click on each or watch the slideshow.
