Oh nice. I was able to install it all without a problem, but I have to patch my game, if I want to use the CAW tool. Thanks a lot, EA.

That Pleasantview looks great!

My neighborhood doesn't have any lots yet, as I'm not sure how I want to terraform it:

I've promised a town to house all me and my best friend's longtime RPG characters as the 'starter NPC families'. Probably will be a sort of Mediterranean setting, with a little gothic & gaslight/steampunk thrown in.

I got distracted today and threw together the start of a Girl Genius-inspired map. It's not going to be high on the finish priority list since I'll need lots and lots of gaslight and steampunk pretties to load into it/use for the buildings once I get lots down and zoning sorted.

I need to reread manual bits about road placement, the roads are giving me the worst time to get right in the last few days of playing with the stuff.

I'm also wanting to work on a tropical paradise now having seen those pretty rice fields.

The sims store has 2 Steampunk sets. You should use those.
And if you dont care for buying them....well....you dont have to..

I'm working on a tropical/volcanic island now instead of the RPG one or the Girl Genius one, go fig, and I've got MORE IDEAS already for a larger city map. Trying to stick to the island now instead of moving from project to project, I have waay too much fun with craters. I've gotten to the point where I'm working on the community lots in the in-game editor, but it tends to crash after a while and I'm not sure why (game does too, I'm sorting through my CC to see if that's an issue...it's really PAINFUL to have the edit mode crash halfway through a lot considering how long it takes to load again..)

1. Place your road where you want the bridge to be - it will be underwater - but make sure the end each side of the road is above water.
2. Click the Grading Road Tool (the icon of the road on a hill)
3. Click the portion of the road that is on land. This tells the tool to raise the road to the level of the bank.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with the other bridges. We are playing around with a Beta and perhaps they aren't enabled for some reason. I'm hoping, though, that's its just because we haven't figured out how to use them yet.

I couldn't tell if they were connected properly until I loaded it into the game and had a sim walk/drive across it. It doesn't "snap" in any observable way (that I could see, anyway).

You have to select the dark blue ends of the road and line them up with the dark blue end of the bridge. Once you do that the line turns a light blue and you know it has snaped together. I don't believe you can "snap" two bridges together though.

I've had this happen too, although I'm not sure if it's an issue in CAW per se, or related to general game instability... I've had some crashing in my game as well. I spent some time yesterday working on that, and I think I've suppressed it so hopefully CAW will be better now too, we'll see.

If it's not the game engine itself being unstable, perhaps there's a memory leak connected with Edit In Game, in which case, closing and reopening every couple of hours is probably the prudent plan, tedious though it is.

Or alternatively, you can make all your lots once you've exported your world and opened in the game. That works if you pretty much know exactly what you want where, so you're not going to need to do any more reshaping of terrain or placement of world objects after your lots are built. And again, that's only actually preferable if your game running by itself is more stable than edit-in-game.

I've also noticed that the number of lots you save onto your world correlates positively with an increase in the number of Save Errors. Removing all lots other than rabbithole essentials usually resolves this particular issue.

Thank you. it took along time to make... But, I can't upload it. I deleted it simply because there wasn't enough space for all the rabbit holes to be placed. That said, I'm not sure if you are allowed to upload worlds without all the rabbit holes, so I could find myself looking through my recycle bin to find it...

That's weird, I've never encountered an error while saving.

I don't write CAW guidelines, Lewjen, but my guess is that if you have a rationale for not having certain rabbit-holes that's better than "I ran out of space", you'd be OK. Just bear in mind the person who's going to be playing your world and how they'd want to use it. You could have a world that was themed in such a way that certain careers wouldn't fit in, like "science" in a medieval town, for instance.

I haven't used them myself, but I believe there are mini versions of the rabbit holes available somewhere for download; that's another alternative (build your own, smaller, rabbit hole lots).

Thanks for such a quick response!
I don't think I'll be uploading that anytime soon anyway, because I'm on restriction. But, I suppose I could do a bit of work on it and try and find ways of freeing up some space.
I have started a new project now, so I'll most likely be finishing that first.

What Sri said - much of the guidelines are flexible if you have a good reason for it. Sort of a "should probably do it this way, but if you don't, make sure you've at least considered doing it this way and have a good reason to do it your way if you don't do it this way."

Grizzly Falls

I've spent over a week working on this neighborhood. Currently I'm on the fine tune/testing phase. I have all the families already made, the story planned out. I went for a remote mountain village. I left out most of the rabbit holes to make the world more realistic. I opted for a smaller world for better perfomance, but I'm no having trouble with my map edges

Grizzly Falls looks great, Myrakle! I wouldn't know it was a small world if you hadn't pointed it out, because the village occupies such a small area of the map
But don't all those mountains shield the edges from sight? Can you actually see the edges from lots and when taking scenery pictures from a more Simmish height? Because, you know, a mountain village is the last setting I would think of to have troubles with edge-views

Well I can now see how the game REALLY looks, and as a result can see the whole of Sunset valley.

And it is hideous. I cannot stand it. The layout is atrocious, the lot placement is idiotic, the town center is ugly, the houses are stupid, I hate it. I absolutely despise it. I want nothing more than to go and make the neighborhood my own by moving the rabbit holes and all that, but I simply cannot be bothered, because this town is just UGLY.

So I want to just make a town that isn't ugly. My only problems eems to be proper road placement and terrain painting. I can't get soft gradual edges on my terrain paints and I can't figure out how to manage the edge of the world(so I'll probably make an island instead.)
