Hope you don't mind me posting this here, please let me know if there's a more appropriate place.

I'm working on a little small mountain town and wanted a smaller, more faded dirt path that could be used as a little track up a mountain so I made a modified opacity.dds file (You can change it from dirt to any other pattern you have). Here's what I came up with, hope it's useful to somebody else.

Edit: just realised it looks like its not centered, it is. It's just that I stupidly took a pic of the end that's not actually attached to a path intersection yet

In the Misc Textures zip- if you click 'View custom content' next to the download file you can see the content of the zip.

Have just been directed to this thread at the official TS3 site by auntielynds. Lots of very useful textures including links to roads and textures from Bridgeport.

You don't need to open these files, just save them without opening. The game can read them just file.

Deeney if you want a free program to play with DDS files then try Paint.Net v3.5.6 from here

Just make sure when you save as DDS your files are DXT3 (explicit alpha) and make sure you have the Generate mip maps option checked when saving them so that they are in the correct format for SIMS3 and accept the option to "flatten" when the save process completes.

The thread from auntilynds (linked by missroxor above) has been updated to include paint and road textures from Appaloosa Plains as well.

cbearc- check that you have the URL modthesims.info at the top of the page. Downloads will not work if you are using modthesims2.com or [something].modthesims2.com.

If you still have problems after checking the URL, enabling modthesims.info in your security software and clearing your browser cache/cookies, please post in the Site issues forum.
