Glenn Beck wants to hold a speech at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech. He wants to be remember as the white anti-government MLK or something? What a bloody con-artist lunatic. I'll laugh when he's remembered as nothing more but a lying over-emotional McCarthyist idiot, rather than the prophet of freedom from the fictitious threats he seems to think he is. |

The average USA person is a not that smart. Look at how many voted for bush. Plus the average USA person is not very tolerant either. (more racist, certainly more homophobic, more anti atheist, more anti certain religions, anti ill people who need help, anti disabled people because they cost tax etc etc) Common sense isnt very USA . Things needa be decided by laws, more laws more laws because lots of groups cant stand eachother. Like religious signs in public places, hate speech VS freedom of speech.. why solve it by common sense if you can sue eachother with laws. Its like a childrens garden where ppl needa be kept out of eachothers hairs by RULES instead of common sense. About the fact that atheists cant rule in certain positions: what a great rule to stupidify the country even more! Consider the majority of nobel prize winners, top scienctists etc are atheists/agnosts... they dont want smart people to rule thats for sure.

Republicans (and Ben Nelson), yet again, just blocked an unemployment benefits extension. What a shocker. The BP-loving, government-hatin party once again pissing on everyone. |

I think that should maybe be a separate topic, Extensa. I could answer, but it would veer the thread away from "US politics" because I'm not an American... |

This is exactly why I love this quote, and why I think it applies to politics perfectly: Quote:
While individual members of individual ideologies might be able to reason things out by themselves, and in fact most people in the US are more moderate than the country's actions and political decisions might lead one to believe, there are enough utter lunatics and enough people willing to listen to them that our entire system is corrupted. Simply put, "a group is only as smart as its least intelligent credible member". Quote:
This is a big part of it. Mainly, it seems to be an unspoken rule of politics that if the people can't understand what you're saying, and the media can't distill it down to a sound bite, whatever you're saying is either incomprehensible gibberish or an attempt to decieve the people. The fact that unintelligent people are inherently distrustful of intelligent people is, well, dumb; and, again, there are enough unintelligent people for this to taint the judgment of intelligent people (and for politicians to use this as a weapon). Also, intelligence is often equated with being somehow less of an "average Joe". A politician who is from an "average" background has a sort of appeal here, even if this means that such a person has no qualifications to hold office. | |||

However, there is a tipping point. The Tea Party. The are NOT "the populous party", as they believe themselves to be. The truth is, depending how things play out, they could split the Republican vote. Which could be a benefit for Democrats. For example, Tom Tancredo, candidate from Colorado, IS going third party, I believe. The, uh...The Constitution Party? Something like that. Of course, many other candidates are not going to that extreme; they are courting the Tea Party, but are still Republicans. Now the reason they could split the Republican vote is because one side of the GOP do realize that Tea Party are nutcases. While the other side loves them. |

WOW! This is... one hell of an interview, and I don't mean that in a good way. It's long at about 18~19 minutes, but bloody hell, it's just... wow. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/2631590..._show/#39566412 |

Wow. I think I kind of love her, just a little bit. Never seen her before, but she's funny. Lost the focus a bit toward the end there and got a bit snotty, but man... |

It's fair to say that Maddow is a highly partisan interviewer at the best of times, but she does some good stuff, even so. That guy. How can you be interviewed for that long and NEVER say ANYTHING intelligent or substantial or sane? Even Sarah Palin did better in the Couric interview. |

Looking at her interview with Defazio, she is ridiculously partisan, but, while Robinson starts out mostly reasonably, he quickly degenerates into defensive posturing. Still, I'd like to see how Defazio would react under similar questioning. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to find non-partisan media anymore, and Fox's primary talk shows are more about spectacle than reporting (frankly, so is the show in the link), so it is unlikely that such an interview will occur. |

Yeah yeah, whatever. At least it's not full of the same bullshit as Fox; nor the same party-controlling power. And CERTAINLY doesn't have nutcases anywhere -near- Glenn Beck. |

It's not that hard to find nutcases crazier than Glenn Beck. You should turn on the radio around here after midnight on the "Secret Muslim" channels. It's fascinating. |

Trust me, I know. But I wasn't saying there aren't crazier people; just, not on that particular network (MSNBC) EDIT: Partisan? Yeah. Outright insane/incredibly idiotic? No. |

Yeah, this is the right place. I'm thinking of one of those Xtranormal vids for myself (not about politics, though). The best Xtranormal I've seen is this one, the one about the Iphone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg |

I'm scared about the election on Tues. I live in Connecticut and that WWE woman is running for Senate. I can't face the Daily Show jokes that will surely ensue if she wins. We already have Joe Lieberman. |

Y'know, the Tea Party may be nuts, but if they split from the Republican party entirely, we may have a shot at abolishing this useless two-party setup. That may pave the way for some sane parties to spring up and compete for our votes. Hell, I don't like Perot, but I would have voted for him if given the opportunity. I am sick and tired of watching Republicans and Democrats sit back and wait for their turn in office. Competition is what will bring progress. Also, DIE, ELECTORAL COLLEGE! You are a useless waste of time. What is this BS about "pledged electors"? All states should be swing states, and direct representation is simple and logical. |

Aye, I hear that. Another party or two in there would be great (hopes one day there'll be a competitive socialist party in there *cough*). My biggest worry is at what cost, if it does go down like that. Plus, the Citizens United ruling will HAVE to either be overturned, or its damage otherwise lessened. AND BRING BACK THE OLD GOD DAMN FILIBUSTER! None of this crap where you simply get to SAY you're filibustering and sit there, no, make them stand all hours for it! Talking every damn minute of it! All of them! Like it used to be! |
