So you've just installed the new EP, whats the first thing you're gonna do? Probably the same thing I did: check out the new neighborhood map thingy, which you can do no problem, but just try and play it and the game crashes to the desktop.

all is not lost, heres a workaround for that problem.

1. in the new neighborhood (I forget the name) go into edit town mode.

2. you may notice a grey empty lot somewhere, the one in my game was down next the Plumbob Pictures Backlot. Bulldoze the lot.

I found this on internet after a long search and worked for me.
edit by me is a picture of the place of the grey lot.
Hope this will fix some errors by some people.

I was having this same problem. In my case, the culprit turned out to be some Ambitions lots from Twinbrook (Bayless Junkyard and a couple of others) that I'd put in the lot bin.

My guess is that when Bridgeport was trying to place the Ambitions lots, it found the Bayless Junkyard (which is 60x60 or something huge like that) and just assumed that was the junkyard it wanted (Grady's which comes pre-loaded in the bin and is more like 30x30) and tried to shove it into a lot that was too small, creating the gray fubar that'll crash the game.

I emptied the Ambitions lots from my bin and haven't had any more problems loading up Bridgeport.

So I'm like, "Cool! What should I get? Brain in a jar... monkey's paw... ooh, pie!"

Hmm, Fernweather may have explained the experience I had. I had a CTD issue when trying to play a lot... which went away when I moved the My Documents/ElectronicArts/Sims3 folder to my desktop. That took away the various lots I had in the bin which included several Ambitions type lots.

Wonder if it's safe to put em back now

I'm still having the CTD issue, and couldn't find any grey lot on Bridgeport. I even bulldozed the same lot you did, just in case, but it keep crashing.
Is it safe to delete Ambitions lots from my bin, won't the game need it later?

Bridgeport has been completely unplayable for me until I found this post. Thank you, Diovarus!! I'm just curious now why this was only happening for what seems to be a small percentage of players?

The only Ambitions lots that you would need to remove would be any that you binned yourself. The ones that came pre-loaded in the lot bin won't cause any problems.

I'm guessing that when Bridgeport places the Ambitions lots it looks for, say, a fire department lot, and takes the first one it finds instead of actually making sure it is using the pre-installed lot that'll actually fit in the town.

So I'm like, "Cool! What should I get? Brain in a jar... monkey's paw... ooh, pie!"

Oh alright,I don't have this problem then, my game is vanilla right now. And as soon as I select a household to play, and it zoom on the sim I get the CTD issue. I can pause it quickly before zooming and that way I can look around the city for the borked lot, but nothing cames up.

Is it really FUBAR?

I had the EXACT same problem, but the cause was a little different.

My problem came down to one custom Sim I had just made, I kept trying and trying to move her into an apartment but the game just kept instantly crashing each time. But then when I tried moving in a completely different Sim the game was fine and has been fine since, regardless of about 5 crashes prior. I'm guessing there is some custom content on the Sims that seems to be sneakily crashing Late Night.

Please, Call Me Lou :D

I found a total of 3 gray lots and on another site, there discussion that the fire department needs to be placed on a proper lot size, 20x30. When I did that I was able to move in my custom sim and look around a bit. Only thing I dislike about using the world editor is losing the address on the lots. I am not a fan of Bridgeport, so I haven't been back there. I am working on making another city scape town with an empty Sunset Valley, but may use the empty Bridgeport and try to create what I want for a city. :/

Still thinking...

I dont have any grey places in my game! The place you marked there in the picture is the garbage place from Ambition EP for me!

But After I had crashing issues at the beginning, right after I installed the EP, I had to deinstall all my EPs and the Base Game. Then I installed it all again with all the patches for the games and EPs. Then I could start the game and it doesnt crash anymore. I have no problems anymore.

Same.
No grey place, but my game occasionally crash. Maybe I need to downgrade my setting..

Anyway, my Sims can't use new music instrument at all. If I tell him to do that, he just.. stares at it, trying to use, then rollback to previous position.

I don't have Late Night, but I installed the update and can't play for more than a second without it crashing, is it possible that I'm having the same problems as you guys even though I don't have the expansion?

It's official, I can't play '=/ Loading Twinbrook also crashed. I give up, I'll just wait for a patch. I had not played in a while anyway...

I don't have any grey places and still the game crashes when I try to move my sim into an apartment or a house. Also, none of my sims on other files can play the new instruments. It's strange because about 4 hours ago I created a family and moved them into an apartment and everything was okay but now I can't do it anymore.

My game always crashes, when I'm in edit town mode, making new sims.. I don't know why is so, when I begin to do that, the game crashes to desktop. I have the crash log analyzer and that is what it's written:

Is there a way to prevent the game from placing lots on its own? Like an option or something you can switch off? I don't want all the Ambitions lots in all my neighborhoods and I don't want to have to find them and delete them myself. I mean, if I have to I will, but I'd rather it didn't place them automatically.
