Changing a sim's eye color...
I just wanted to know if there was any way to change a sim's eye color.. I tried Insimenator and the Mirror but that didn't give me options of changing the eye color... So is there any way to change it?

Once you're in game you cannot permanently change a sim's eye color. You can download contact lens and change it that way or download SimPE and change it permanently.

Yes,however, the new eyecolour won't actually show in game. It will be passed on to the offspring.
To change the colour of the eye visibly, contact lenses work inside the game. (Like these http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=431868 )

I've experimented with changing skin tone, eye color, etc. in SimPE and it shows up in the game for me.

It's been ages since someone posted something here, and I hope it isn't too late to comment. But I hope that someone could tell me exactly how to change a Sim's eye colour. I know how to change Sim's hair, eye, and skin tone genetics, but that doesn't change the Sim's eye colour. It only affects the offspring that the Sim may produce.

You change eye colour in the same place that you change their hair or skin colour, under the DNA tab.
This is the eye codes

I'll see. But I don't remember their eye colours actually changing with the genetics. Not in my game anyway. So far only the Sim's skin tones change when I edit their skin genetics in SimPE. Yes I am very familiar with the eye codes in SimPE. I even know the code for the alien eye colour.

As Jo already said - try changing appearance at the mirror. You don’t have to actually change anything, but you do have to accept the changes - don’t click the X to cancel the changes.

Are your graphics good and are they on high? Also did you delete the cache files?

Edit:
It's the same with the Traveller family. Trent Traveller's eyes are light blue, but his genetics are for grey eyes. Trisha has dark blue eyes but her genetics are for light blue eyes. And Tina has green eyes but her genetics are for light blue eyes.

Inside the Sims 2 folder at the end are too loose files, Group Cache and Accessory cache. Most of us with tons of cc have to delete these pretty much all the time or the game stops loading. Deleting them may 'refresh' the game to show up the changes.

I saw a tip somewhere that any changes to hair, eye and skin tones need to be updated in both Sim DNA and in the character file. I think there was something about leaving it unchanged in the character file could cause corruption, or sometimes the character could revert to displaying their old DNA? I usually bookmark info like that, but apparently this time I didn't.
Anyway, backup first. Use the More button while on the Sim Description of the sim you want to change. Open the character file and then click on the Age Data resource. Change whichever line(s) you need to change. Skin and hair tone are also referenced in the character file's Property Sets. Change them there as well, but don't bother changing the property set for age 10, as that's elder stage. Commit each change and save.
It may not be necessary to actually do these steps, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. All I know is, those values are referenced somewhere other than just the Sim DNA, and on the off-chance it could potentially corrupt or cause some kinds of play issues with my game, I change it in both places now.

To get the new color to show up you have to change both the Sim DNA and the character file. AFAIK the information in the character file is what decides how the sim is displayed. The DNA is just that, DNA.
Changing the DNA is pretty straight forward, but working in the character file is kind of tricky since not much is labeled for you.
The procedure I use is this:
1. Find the sim you want in SimPE and view their DNA. I usually open a text file and paste their current eye value/code/whatever in it or at least remember the first few letters because you'll need it later.
2. Paste the code for the eye color you want where it says dominant or recessive. I usually do both. Remember, this is just your sim's DNA. Commit and save.
3. Then open up your sim's character file. The resources you'll need to change are Age Data and Material Definition. There should only be one entry in Age Data and it should contain a string conveniently labeled eyecolor. It should be the same as your sim's original eye color. This is where you'll paste the new one.
4. Next is Material Definition. There's no way of knowing how many resources should be in there. It varies per sim. This is where the old code you saved will come in handy. All you need to do is replace every instance of the old eye code with the new eye code. But you might not find the eye color in every material definition, and that's normal. In the toddler sim I have open right now, he has 6 material definitions and his eye color shows up in every one of them. They're all named cafOverlay0, but I'm not sure if this is the case every time. After you replace the codes, commit, and save, you're done. Your sim's new eye color should show up after you change their appearance in a mirror.
I'm not sure if this method is 100% safe or accurate, but it's worked every time for me. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for that Shasta, I'm going to save your post to my Word document, where I put all these kinds of tips. I've only changed skin and added eye recessives and never had to do anything other then under the DNA tab.

I'll add that instead of fumbling thru SimPE, I download colored eye contacts and change eye color as I see fit.

The problem I have with using contacts is that none of them are identical to the original Maxis eye colours. If they were, I'd be more than happy to use them, since I try to refrain from using eye colours that aren't made by Maxis when possible, since they just aren't the same!

@C.Syde65 Try these: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=293184 They match whatever default eyeset you have in, so if that's Maxis, then they match Maxis. If that's QueenofFrance, then they match QueenofFrance. (And so on.)

That's because you are in a very tiny minority. While I like most Maxis made things, eyes no, they are dead and creepy and most people think the same. Once I tried defaults I never went back.

I am definitely not fond of non Maxis eyes. So naturally I don't want contact lenses if they aren't identical to the Maxis eye colours.

Well, the ones linked by esme will display whatever your regular eyes are, so those should work. If they do what they say. If not then I can make them for you when exams are over.

Wow! These are exactly what I was looking for! I won't even have to try to correct the eye colours of Sims' whose eye colours don't change when I go to change their genetics. Just need to make sure the right Sims aren't turned off by face paint.
