Mods like Twallan's mods makes the game run much better and others like "name replacement" mods make the game a little more interesting to play, we know that.... And yet why are there still Vanilla (un-modded) game players out there who are struggling with the game (complaining about bugs & such) and not do something about it? I've encountered people on Youtube who just refuse to try out mods even if what I'm suggesting such as Twallan's Overwatch can improve the game for them :/ |

I personally was "afraid" to use Twallan's mods because I didn't understand the website. There's so much information on there that it's overwhelming at first, and I found it hard to follow. Course now that I'm more used to it it doesn't bother me but yeah. I think a lot of them are afraid of viruses, or slowing their computer/game down. Or maybe they're just too stubborn to listen to those of us who tell them that mods will improve their game if installed right. You know, because they don't want to admit they're wrong. ![]() And then there are just some people who aren't afraid of mods, they just choose not to use them because they don't feel like they need them. But they have just as much a right to complain about them as everyone else. |

Yeah, maybe some people just like the game as it is and don't feel that it would make the game "better" for them or improve the game as they like to play it. And as for things like name replacements, maybe they're happy with the names in the game already. Something might seem better or more interesting to one person and another person might not be interested in that thing at all. Personally I do use mods because the things they offer are things that enhance the game for me. | |

Why would you be? On The Sims 1 and 3 i always ran mods. It just felt essential. But for some reason i never used mods on the sims 2 for some reason. (No offence at all intended, but most mods for sims 2 are low quality) |

They made using cc and mods much harder than it used to be, and then there were those horror stories with spider babies and deformed children as a result of poorly made cc. And with all the game updates, many mods have to be updated too. In short, using cc and mods require a certain level of computer skills as well as careful diligence about what's in your game. Some either don't have the computer knowledge and/or don't want to take out all their mods and update them every time there's a patch. There is also an almost "no cc cult" on the official forum. They act like cc is evil and it scares a lot of simmers enough that they also start repeating that cc is evil. Personally I suspect that EA made mods and cc more difficult because they wanted to discourage it. They're ok with player-made content using their tools but they do not like game mods. Understandable from a game support perspective but I also wonder if they are trying to train people not to use it so that when they move to an all online environment, people will be used to not having it available. ;-) |

As mentioned, some people just don't feel like they need them. But for others, I think there may be several reasons. Firstly, if they are minors, their parents may not allow them download/install anything on the computer. Or they may be not very computer savvy, and are afraid of downloading a virus, or downloading something that will mess up their save game, or their entire game (forcing them to re-install) or even actually messing up their computer. I've noticed some people (okay, one person in my family) who has all these toolbars from downloaded games, but doesn't know how to remove them - I think that some players may be afraid to remove things from their computer for fear of messing something up, so don't download much. Then there are the people that simply don't want to have to update mods every time they buy an expansion pack or patch their game. |

Personally I ran TS 3 unmodded for about 2 years. The only reason I started using Twallan's mods when I did was to make certain things easier. Such as when I didn't feel like taking the time to work my sim up to level 10 in his or her career. It was a convenience thing, not a necessity thing. I still only have two mods even now, but would still enjoy the game without them |

Some may be afraid of mods after they had a mod cause troubles in the game. I had several mods that made certain functions disappear, even though I checked the compatiability, and had proper versions. So, I don't use a lot of mods, just the ones I really need and that are known to function well - like Twallan's mods, aWT's slider hack, and some mods from MTS. |

I have one friend who would be a vanilla player if I didn't set up (and update) her mod folder for her. Mostly, she is scared of messing something up, but she does enjoy the benefits of the mods I present to her. (Which, are mostly Twallan mods, and not much else.) |

I have noticed that. I hated having to setup a resource file and do all that additional junk to get it working. I miss the simple drag and drop into the users sims download folders. I personally think they did it on purpose to sway some people into buying from the sims 3 store instead of freely downloading new content. Too bad for EA, almost everything on the store is overpriced garbage. $50 for a world? (Sunlit Tides), what in the world are they thinking? |

Oh yes, the TS3 Store! How could I forget that - you are absolutely right, that was also part of the reason they made it more difficult. |

That was started with the introduction of The Sims 2 Store. The Sims 3 fully interrogating it is so annoying. I hate accidently clicking a store item. |

Can't be bothered with them, the game runs adequately enough for me and I haven't experience any game-breaking glitches yet (fingers crossed). |

I always advise people not to use mods, because they can infect your boot sector and be tracked by advertisers for fake skin creams. |

This is why I don't want to hang around the official site's BBS, because some people just made threads like "What is The Sims?" with OP leaving only ' |

I played Sims 1 completely CC free (mostly because I didn't know they existed. But I still had fun) I played Sims 2 CC free for the first year or two....then I discovered this site and I haven't looked back since. I could play a completely vanilla game and still have fun though. Most of my CC was just clothes, hair, and Insimenator anyway. I tried Sims 3 without any CC and almost lost my mind after the first week. There's literally not a single mod in my folder that I could do without. |

I honestly have no idea. I didn't mod Sims 2 back in the day, but IMO Sims 3 is only playable if you have mods. I switched to Twallan's stuff recently but I used to have AwesomeMod installed, and I installed it as soon as I heard about it. |

I'll start out with no mods, because I want to experience the game as EA intended. All the while, I'll be compiling a list of the ways EA does things that just plain sucks. So I'll start adding mods to change the sucky stuff and end up with a pretty well modded game. So people who insist on staying vanilla, they either think mods will make their game unstable, or they have a very high tolerance for suck. Maybe both. |

Meh. |

Me too, exactly like you described. The Sims 2 site told me about Pescado for the University bug that destroyed games and I got more info about other sites, haven't been mod free since. Is there a cream for that?
