I hope I'm asking this is the right place. What I'm trying to do is build a castle in what was a 60x60 lot. I broke it down into 4 smaller lots, 40x40, 2 20x40, and one 20x20. I put the lots as close together as I possibly could, but there are still gaps, so the wall I built around the entire thing looks kind of odd even though it is perfectly lined up. Any suggestions? thanks! Shadow |

You'll always have to have a 1 tile space between them. If you're making a custom world, you can do a terrain paint that matches one you use on the lot and paint the gap with it, so they appear seamless. |

Has anyone actually tried putting them closer together in CAW by grabbing and moving the lots? It's possible to move them closer (so that the lot outline turns red) but I've not tested to see if it can cause problems. Sunset Valley has several lots that are closer together than one grid tile (so they show red in CAW) and that plays without any issues. I'll have to test this when I fire up CAW next! |

I have no idea what CAW is but I'm looking forward to hearing the results! Thanks again! |

Create a World. A very powerful yet incredibly frustrating tool created by Black Box so that they'll cut the budget by making simmers create their own worlds. It's free as long as you own TS3 and your newest expansion legally. (if you don't, there are ways...) There's also Create a Pattern which rocks. |

Our Create-A-World forum, for those new to it http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=616I don't think you'll ever be able to build seamlessly across lot boundaries, whether with CAW or Edit World, but I would love to be proven wrong on that |

Mootilda should be taken hostage and FORCED AT GUNPOINT to make tools for TS3. |

The problem with lots built very close together is that the walls of neighbouring lots don't go down with the ones on the lot you are on, and then there can be camera issues.

I want to put lots closer together! *throws a minitantrum*. It's really kind of frustrating me. I remember in the sims 2 I could put empty lots together like puzzle peices. It was great for building communal ponds and gardens and such. Now that I realized it would be great for building a fully functioning castle, I'm almost wishing I still had the sims 2. *le sigh* Well, here's another question. Is there a way to build to the very edge of a lot? This would at least get rid of a couple of spaces and maybe close the gap a bit. Thanks so much! Shadow* |

You would be able to do that with custom fences that are wall high and CAST-able. Otherwise, just try to improvise and build your castle to incorporate those details in a natural way. So, given that you can now move from lot to lot seamlessly, you can design the gap as a road, or path, or river/pond. |

Apartment Life had hood deco alleyway paving that could be slotted inbetween lots. A TS3 equivalent would be very useful. |

I tried this in CAW in my Venice world and the closest you can place lots together still leaves 1 space between them. Add in the fact that houses must leave 1 space between the wall and the edge of the lot and you get a total of 3 spaces between lots. There are performance issues to deal with when placing lots this closely together because the game will render more graphics than it would with lots that have larger spaces. In fact, my advice to people with lower end computers that were having problems with Venice World was to delete the houses around the once they were playing. I think our best hope is for better technology (both computer hardware and programming) that will allow Sims 4 (when it comes out) to allow us to do this. |

My cat taught me how to fetch. I throw the toy, she shows me where it landed, and I fetch it. |

The thing is, the technology is there. The thing that's missing is common sense from the designers. As you said, it's three blocks minimun between buildings. This means you hit a ceiling when you reach a certain level of building skill. These jokers don't seem to realise things like this. I just hope a rival company makes a similar game to TS3, and shows them how it should be done. I was going to mention Bethesda, but then they have made the only game to be more crashy/buggy than TS3, which is Fallout 3.

It gets on my nerves because where I live, houses are either semi-detached (joined along one wall) or terraced (all houses joined together into a single giant building). The idea of a house placed in the middle of a lot surrounded by garden on all sides just doesn't exist here - land is too expensive! I always laugh when I go to North America and see single-storey houses covered with brightly-coloured aluminium siding with garden all round - "look, it's Sims houses!" |

You can technically have rows of semi detached housing by simply having larger lots. With Late Night, you can build one building, and then set aside a small portion as your own apartment/flat. Still quite cumbersome, but it works in a weird way. See here: http://linna.modthesims.info/download.php?t=434154 |

You can place objects that hang over the edge of a lot, including rabbit-hole type buildings. See this lot as an example: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=424812 The car will stick out onto the sidewalk (I love this lot...its so grungy). So theoretically you could design objects that looked like the edge of whatever building you're making and place them to hang over the connecting edges of your lot. Perhaps wall or fence-shaped objects would be easiest to use. |
