I wasn't sure which category to put this in... I was a sim head for about six or so years (sims 1 and 2), and I played the sims 3 about four or five times. But around the time of its release, life got more complicated. Anyway, what is everyone's personal favorite version? Because the sims 2 is simpler, I think it's better for big families. I loved the amount of customization available for the sims 2, and the expansion packs.

I can only install one of the two games. I have all but the free time and vacation eps for the sims 2, and the first two for the sims 3. Was the sims 3 an unecessary improvement on a good thing, or do you think it blows the second out of the water? thanks

If you ask in the TS3 forum, you'll probably find people saying that TS3 is far superior. If you ask in the TS2 forum, you'll probably find people saying that TS3 isn't worth it.

I find TS3 unpleasant to play and really prefer TS2.

I prefer TS2 more than TS3....for now. I play depends on my moods. So, I install both of them, just in case. But for now, TS2 is better, more EPs. If TS3 have many EPs in the future, then maybe TS3 is better...

Hey there! :)

I love the TS3 base game more, but I prefer TS2's expansion packs by a mile.

TS3 blows TS2 out of the water.

Even thou I still enjoy reading TS2 blogs, and occasionally will get a "Oh, I want to play" feeling about TS2, but then when I start to think about all the things I can't do in TS2 I start feeling very claustrophobic about it. I still want to play a mega hood one day, but I guess more years have to pass before I can play TS2 and accept it's shortcomings.

The same way I was able to enjoy TS1 for that one summer I plaid it a few years back, but playing it just after TS2 came out was undo-able because it's shortcomings (2d, and no ageing) got blow out to unrealistic proportions because I was constantly comparing it to TS2. Now I can accept it for what it is.

But, which game I like to play, and which game the people above me want to play shouldn't affect your decision. Unless you want to play the game that's more popular, then our opinion counts, otherwise you should pick the game you have more fun playing with.

I uninstalled Sims 3 recently to put Sims 2 back on my computer, because I felt really angry at EA about Sims 3 Generations.

Sims 2 has great gameplay and it's really quirky and fun. And the genetics are lovely. Sims 3 is technically better and I have really found myself missing the open neighbourhood and various colour sliders. Sims 3 is also better for legacies for these reasons.

It's too hard to say outright which is better. It depends on what kinds of things are more important to you. I love aspects from both games, so only choosing one can be extremely hard!

Technically, unless you're severely limited on space and resources, you can install both games fine. I personally prefer the sims 2 over the sims 3, largely because of the genetics system and because I have 'hoods I've built up from a handful of sims and have a strong vested interest in. However, I do like the open world of the sims 3, the extra gardening options, the CASt (even if it does take me ten minutes to make a single sim).

Heck, I've still got the sims one installed on my computer and I play that from time to time. Nothing says because you've installed one version you cannot play any of the others.

One of the thing I find TS2 hard to deal with is the lack of body slider variations as well as custom skins. There are enough custom skins. But custom skin also dictate body shape as well. If you want to have a hulky sim, you have to download a special skin that links to a special body mesh that makes him very muscular, way more than usual sim. Or if you want a bigger breast female, there are skins for that. It is a whole lot more limited than TS3. Now with custom sliders, TS3 can let us customize each and every sim. Although it is not perfect, it is way better than TS2. Skin files in TS3 are really just "skin", we get to control body shape separately via sliders.

There are less graphic features, which is given. I am not going to mention open neighborhood because everyone else already mentioned it. Playing TS2 after TS3 does feel claustrophobic.

It is hard for me to choose between those two games because they are really different.
I have them both installed right now, but I play TS2 more frequently. I'm a little disappointed in TS3 Generations.

Honestly, as long as you are enjoying yourself, it is all that matters. You have both games so you can play whichever game whenever you want. Or are there good and bad things in both games that make you torn between deciding which game to play? I can certainly understand that feeling. I am glad I don't have to deal with it because installing TS2 again for me would require digging out all the old installation CDs (which may be long lost).

When pets come out for TS3, and maybe more custom animations, then I can tell you I am definitely TS3 girl. Well, maybe if TS3 can be a bit more stable.

About custom animations, cmoney's window opener is neat, although not entirely useful but it does add spice in game. I remember in TS2 there were a lot of custom animations, including the different sex positions. I am not a pervy, but I think I am really tired of the quickie "under the blanket" woohoo interaction. It is even weak for PG-13 (there are way more steamy scenes of couples in bed in PG 13 movies). It may be rated "G" at best. I think I want rated "R" stuff now. Until then I will completely consider TS3 as my alternate virtual life.

I have all 3 series installed on my laptop. I have only played 2 and 3 though. I have only played TS2 Monday this week. The rest of this week has been devoted to TS3 due to Generations. I have spent all week just creating Sims to see the new clothes and hair. I have families in the Sim Bin ready to be played Prosperity style (except I subsituted rolling Traits for Aspirations and got some really wild combinations). I do need to start sharing Memories for the new objects I get for sharing them.

So, for right now, my opinion is Sims 3.

I have both Sims 1 and Sims 2 installed right now, and I mostly play Sims 2. I did have Sims 3 installed but it lags so much. Sometimes I do wish I could play Sims 3 and the new expansion packs coming out, but I just don't think my laptop can handle it. So I prefer Sims 2.

Its really your choice you know. I had both games - TS2 and TS3 on my computer for about a year until I realized one day that I hadn't fired up TS2 in months. THats when I uninstalled TS2. I love TS2 and a lot of people will say it's a better game overall than TS3, but consider that it's got more EP's than TS3. TS2's got more CC and mods out there because it's been around a lot longer than TS3. At this time TS3 is in it's "child" stage whereas TS2 is a full grown adult

From my perspective, I prefer TS3 because the open neighbourhood is something I can't live without anymore. I also can't live without CASt because the freedom of being able to just match and colour anything and everything instead of searching sites for this colour or that texture is fabulous, The graphics are tons better - that's a given. But it's also missing loads of stuff that we got used to in TS2 but I'm sure ~~crosses fingers and toes~~ that it will be coming in the future

Good luck whatever you decide and happy simming!!!

That's how I see the franchise: Sims 1 is a classic, Sims 2 is awesome and Sims 3 is epic.

And anyways, epic isn't really better than awesome, it just depends on how its presented. Nowadays games have to be epic because they have to compete hard with their antecessors.

But if I had to choose, I would go with Sims 3 because of the open hood, adventure-like vacations and celebs, thou I miss peaceful vacations and magic, I'm sure it'll be on Sims 3 in a couple of EPs.

Well, after playing TS3 I could never go back to TS2. Ever. The horrible, horrible loading times...UGH! I sold my TS2 collection over a year ago and will never regret it. We had good times together, but it's over. DIVORCE.

I don't think I could ever play Sims 2 again.

-TS3 has much nicer graphics.
-Needs drained waaaayyyy too quickly. Back in TS2, I had to keep worrying about keeping the bars up. TS3 gives you more breathing room.
-Sim-people are more intelligent in TS3 than they were in TS2... although they're still quite dumb =P
-Loading screens are a PITA. For some reason, TS3 loads much quicker for me. Not sure how that happened.
-Most of all, the lack of Style tool drives me mad--- I mean, you can't have a matching furniture set unless it's CC. Even then, you're limited to a selection of colors.

- Nobody will disagree with graphics.
- Need adjustments can be handled via mods, which I remember they do have those around.
- Intelligent? Maybe, but I do know TS3 has much better routing and tables and counters actually yield some rooms instead of completely taking entire square.
- TS3 loads the same for me = 5 minutes to get into the game.
- OH OH since you remember, yeah that is one of the reason I hate TS2 and TS3 came as a revelation. I would have to download extra CC just to have matching styles. The whole matching style thing was a huge headache.

I like all versions of The Sims, and I think they all have good and bad aspects. Personally, I love TS1 the most, TS2 the next and TS3 comes as the third, but I play TS3. I grew up with the game, and I don't go back even though I could (I'd never give or sell any TS games!). I feel sad that TS3 doesn't have the same quirky Maxis-ness that TS1 and in a lesser way TS2 had but the game is really good anyway, just different. The only thing I wish I could "copypaste" from TS2 would be babies and toddlers, they looked SO much better in 2.

I always get annoyed when people say how much of a disappointment TS3 was over TS2.

EVERYTHING good from TS2 came from the expansions. When I had TS2, I only had the base game because I wasn't allowed to buy any EPs for it. I made do with CC, and it was fun, yes, but then when the TS3 base game came out, I was absolutely floored by the additional content it offered over the TS2 base-game. You couldn't even COMPARE how much of a stark improvement it was. Try playing TS2 without any EP's and you'll see what I mean; there's NOTHING in it.

TS3 is starting to catch up to TS2 EP-wise, but to me, TS2's only draw seems to be that it still has more EPs to choose from.

If you played it like I did, having only base games to compare to, TS2 is a pile of... you know.

I think it's easier to have big families in TS3. Babies and toddlers are easier to take care of and kids can get their own meals. Heck, kids do homework on their own at the start. There doesn't seem to be as many negative consequences for running sim parents into the ground.

For me, game play is not so much better as it is different. I've never been interested in playing legacies with TS2, but that works so well with TS3. TS3 has become my 'legacy hood' and TS2 is my 'BAC hood'.

I love TS2 and I've got all EP's except Uni and Pets and if TS3 had just come out or I only had base game, I would say TS2. However, TS3 has moved from infancy to childhood... and with 4 EP's out, it's starting to really flesh out and I would definitely recommend TS3. The biggest things about TS3 for me is the open neighbourhood, universal aging, CAS and CASt. No more fifty bazillion recolours of 1 item, just 1 mesh and the possibilities are endless... of course, you need to grab a ton of patterns for ultimate choices but hey recolouring is a piece of cake

If you compared TS2 Base Game with TS3 Base Game - you would be better off playing TS3 because it is still more versatile than TS2 Base Game... again, open hood, universal aging, CAS and CASt make it that much better. Plus even though it's only TS3 BG, don't forget to patch to the latest and greatest and the functionality and additional game play provided in those patches (Basement tool, Fountain tool, rounded swimming pools/fountains, memories... have I missed anything?) just make it so much more than just plain old TS2 Base Game.

Anyway, whatever you decide, happy simming
