Hello everybody,

I want to upload a lot I build to MTS. Where can I find it and how do I get a furnished and unfurnished version of the lot? Do I have to convert is to sim3pack before uploading?

Once you've built your lot you need to click on it from the neighbourhood view and choose 'share'. You'll then enter any details you want to add and then the game will export a sims3pack file which is found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Exports. There's no need to create separate furnished and unfurnished versions - just make the one furnished lot - because in TS3 you can choose whether you buy a lot furnished or unfurnished.

Make sure you read through the Creator Guidelines (you can click the link I've added or it's accessible under the 'Create' menu at the top of the screen) prior to uploading anything. Once you've got all the information needed, click 'Upload Items' under the 'Create' menu.

Thanks for your answer! Am I allowed to upload a furnished lot with custom content?

What you can and can't do is outlined in the Creator Guidelines that el fiel linked for you. Look at the Sims 3 Guidelines for Lots & Houses.

Thank you I see I have to credit custom content, but I really don't know anymore where I got it from... Sometimes it's in the description of the object, but not always. Most of my custom content is from TSR.

Well, then you might want to leave out that custom content, as you will have to link and credit every piece of custom content used.

Did you perhaps mean the prices, when you mentioned "furnished and unfurnished"? If so, when you're in build mode, both prices are shown in the top left corner of the screen.

Another question: when I export the lot, does all the custom content transfer with it or do people have to download that separately before they can see it in-game?

Some CC will be included, some will not. To check, and remove any CC which isn't allowed to be included, use Delphy's CUSTARD.

Does anyone knows whether it's allowed to include subscriber cc from The Sims Recourses in lots? I read their policies but couldn't find anything about it... I'm crediting every piece of cc with a link in the description when I upload the lot.

No, you can't. Free content from TSR is allowed (unless the creator turns pay) but no pay items, and no free items by pay artists. Read here: Creator Guidelines Regarding Pictured or Required Pay Content.

I also used some cc doors and windows... I guess I just can't upload the house at all?

If it's pay, you can't use it. If it's free, you can use it. You are welcome to switch the items for content from the game, or free content, if they are pay.

The easiest way to build - and the most convenient for downloaders, is to build using as little custom content as possible. Most downloaders don't want to download lots chock full of custom content - it adds to the bloat of their downloads, and it's often stuff they wouldn't have chosen to download separately. If there's something you just -have- to use custom content for, then use it as sparingly as possible - a piece or two here and there. Many builders keep their building materials separate - things they know they would like to use, that can be included or that they know is free/linkable, so that when they build, they put in those items before loading the game and nothing else, and they know that whatever CC they may happen to use won't be a problem when they go to upload.

Thank you all so much for your help I am rebuilding the house now for uploading purposes, without custom content. Just a little bit free cc, but as less as possible. It is very difficult to keep the cc and original content apart in The Sims 3 tho! I can't sort it properly with the 'filter content' option. It sorts some custom content with original Sims stuff The small Sims icons in the lower right of the thumbnails also confuse me. The white icon with the green sims bulb appear on both original and custom content...

It's especially difficult with patterns, since there is no description with them. I usually look at the description to see whether it's custom or original content.

Install your patterns as .package files, and they will have the CC icon.

I see, thank you. Is there also an easy way to find out what expansion packs are needed for a sim3pack lot? Sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty new to this

The EPs whose objects you used are required. Also, if your lot is a special type - such as an LN bar - then the EP that lot type came with will be required. Apart from that, the really important thing for downloaders to know is which patch version you made the lot on, since new building features, like stages, are added by patches as well as by EPs.
