Weird graphic glitch (img attached) #1 |
| Gfurst |
Hey people so i get these weird graphic glitches where it appears hidden objects are in front of me when zooming on certain places, something like distorted textures coming from the center of the screen. You'll see in the attached pics, one place i know that has this glitch is the Aquarious club in Bridgetown, it seems that other apartments have this glitch also, including the one i've recently moved to. I've searched for a bit and couldn't found anything similar, or maybe google just doesn't like me anymore Anyway its not game breaking, its just really annoying, it also appears in camera mode. One last thing, i'm currently running the game in a linux box, it runs pretty well, i would complain only from long load/save times, but i guess it weights more on pc spec than system. So this glitch could be related to linux, but haven't seem any issue like this yet, can't be sure. Have anyone come across anything like that? Are ther hidden objects in the sim world that i may be unaware of? |

Do you have any CC? It might be worth trying without CC/ Mods to see if that affects it at all. Also, does it happen if you start a fresh Bridgeport game? http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php..._3_Game_Problem |

What's the PC specs? I don't know how to get them from a Linux OS, though. Which Linux distro are you using? |

I had something like that from a CC easel... But if you only have mods that wouldn't have caused it. |

Those kind of artifacts are usually associated with overheating or bad CC. And since you only have mods, back to hardware as the cause. From that specs, I would say it's hardware related, indeed. CPU is way, way below minimum, RAM is at the absolute min and that GPU has issues. So the whole combo is not good, sorry! That machine is not suitable for TS3, not even with Ubuntu, or maybe I should say especially not Ubuntu (on any Linux Distro for that matter), as that OS is not in the System Requirements. I don't think it was even tested on Unix, with the performance on OSX being what they are.. |

What do you mean by overheating or bad CC? My system specs are above the minimum, below recommended. Just saw the help page about the requirements, didn't know about this issue with my GPU. Anyway, Dual core 1.6gh is almost on the recommended side, 1Gb ram is needed for the xp version, so i'm well above, also my graphic memory is 512mb, well above the required. The game it self runs at a good rate. These artifacts are annoying but not game braking, all i have to do is zoom out. It has nothing to do with mac, its the windows version run through wine( windows emulation layer). In my experience it runs better than in my windows xp( perhaps because of the low specs). Anyway, i'm going to buy something new anytime soon :/ Thanks anyway, i didn't know those were artifacts. See ya |

For the basegame with no EPs or patches, yes, you're above minimums. By now, though, the cumulative effect of the patches has bumped the requirements up to at least 2Gig RAM on XP and a 2.0Ghz+ dual core - EA haven't acquiesced to say so themselves, but hey, why would they when they can continue to trick customers into buying a game they can't use? |

GPU overheating is what caused the artifacts. That's the nature of artifacts - being annoying instead of game-breaking, until the GPU fries the machine from the heat or as time passes, from wear and tear over time at a much quicker pace. Bad CC can cause this too, when the creator created a broken mesh or package - mostly on clothing made to be available for all Ages without having the proper Age mesh and morphs. I'm comparing to Macs due to the kernel is similar, both being Unix-based. As I have no basis to place any experience playing Sims on Ubuntu. All I know is the game does not play well on OSX, so I extrapolate the same can be said on Ubuntu. As it's agreed it's a hardware issue, I'll tag this resolved and lock. |
