Did they take away the Sims 2 site to try and force people to move on to Sims 3? #1 |
| Jemcrystal |
Will the Sims 2 site ever come back? Who exactly owns Sims now? Does EA still exist or did they get swallowed by another corp? |

according to what other members on this site said in a previous similar thread: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=448636, they said that the Sims 1 site had an issue an was on "maintenance", but in the end it was shutdown, so you never know, this might be one of EA's tricks... |

Probably. What I don't like about TS3 is the story will move on without you if you're not playing a lot. I'm one of those people that likes to micromanage my Sims. |

It's such a huge slap in the face to the Sims 2 players who have stuck with EA all these years. |

EA has never been about holding onto games as long as they exist. They've been shutting down servers for on-line games for a while now, even when the games affected are not that old. I'm not surprised. EA does not want to live in the past so they threw us all out and said 'bye!" They're a corporation in the business of making games and money. EA owns all the rights and trademarks for the entire Sims franchise. They would never give them up or sell them. The franchise has made them very, very rich-and EA, while momentarily at odds with their finances from time to time, have never considered being bought out by anyone-not that any other corporation could afford to buy them-they're worth at least 1 billion dollars. That's a lot of money. |

There are a few hacks to either stop story progression or slightly tweek it. |

@Octavia<3: man, don't make an offtopic. I BELIEVE that it's only maintenance. Sims 2 is still VERY popular and I don't think that EA would close official site. |

Isn't the Store already closed? I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to move people on. |

That why it is so important ( In Agreement with FranH ) to keep all your Sims 2 expansions ( with code ) in order, along with "Saving Your Patches" for all the games you may have. EA or any big corporation all they want to do is suck you in, and empty your pockets then push your butt off the cliff for their next big thing. That may or may not be that good after all. I have learn to enjoy the Sims 2 expansions that I already have, I'll not trying to keep up with the consumers who are the Jones, or play the EA waiting game like we are some kind of puppets being move around by wires or strings. It's bad enough that members have to go back and forward to see if EA site is open again but all they seem to get is a message that say they are close for "maintenance." |

EA is not the evil empire. EA is a company who's job is to make money for their shareholders. They don't make money from you playing a game which is no longer supported. They don't get money from you every time that you play the game. They have to set priorities for their time and money and other resources, and Sims 2 is no longer a priority. It's silly to talk about EA as if they have a personal vendetta against you. They are just making business decisions based on their belief about the best way to make money for their shareholders. They also can't control you like puppets. You have the final decision about where you spend your money. Quote:

http://www.simprograms.com/32063/th...f-thesims2-com/ I doubt that EA would close the sims 2 forums yet. Quote:
There are options to turn story progression off and lots of mods to give you great control over what you sims can do (including mods to make S2 type gameplay where only the current household ages) It was a bigger deal at release with no mods and a buggy game but it's improved a lot.

Keeping a site up and running costs money. EA's not making much off of Sims 2 anymore, relatively speaking, and you can figure the site isn't generating enough revenue for it to be worthwhile to pay for it. If they've shut it down permanently, it's an accounting department originated decision, nothing aimed at players at all. Someone looked at the numbers and saw that the website brings in X per month and costs Y (in electricity, salaries, servers, etc) and Y is greater than X, so the website is no longer profitable. The division that looks at is this department profitable or not probably knows nothing and cares less about which games are popular and why, and have no interest in which games any particular gamer or group of gamers plays. Their jobs rely on eliminating unprofitable parts of the company's activities. |

@ > Mootilda > I think you and I have been down this subject before, I use the word "you" meaning "Consumers" I also have said before in another post that it is up to the consumers to spend as they please. And please do not tell me corporations can not control the public like a puppet on a string. They do it everyday without the consumers realizing it. You live in Canada I live in the USA we Americans right now are trouble by the way corporations big bussinesses are controlling our elective officials like puppets on a string which happen to fall on the backs of us consumers. ( Sorry members if off subjects ) Note: I'll screaming bloody murder here I am so tired of this same subject coming up all the time. it's comes down to whatever make one happy Sims 1- 2- 3- or whatever may be next. Also there are other good games out there beside the Sims, don't get me wrong I love the Sims but if truth be told it is.

Well... obviously. If you make a series of games you want people to buy all of them, not just one. Cutting support to an older edition is one way they do that. I used to work in software support (not for EA) and this is really a necessary move. Aside from reasons of marketing, older programs will be less compatible with newer operating systems. Eventually you have to say, no, we don't support this old Win95 software on Win7 (for example) and if you want continued support you need to upgrade. |

I'm feeling very down that EA doesn't seem to care about TS2 consumers anymore. It's depressing... since I just SPENT A FORTUNE to get all these damn EPs and SPs for this wonderful game over the past year. I really am thinking of switching to Sims 3. I really feel like I'm being left behind. Look at us! We're a minority here. They could just name this place ModTheSims3, and I won't be surprised. Not to mention the constant bullying of Sims 3 players on the Sims 2 vids and comment forums all over the web. And if shutting down all the Sims 2's sites is EA's strategy of making players upgrade to Sims 3, then it's actually working...for me at least. |

Let's look at it another way: If you buy any other kind of product, you would expect that the company that makes the product sometimes updates it, changes it or even dumps it-even successful products. It's been done with cars-some of the most successful cars in GM's history were thrown on the dump because they were no longer selling as well as they had been-the entire Pontiac line, for instance. So for us to complain that EA has 'abandoned us' is a rather quarrelsome topic. It's been nearly 11 years since Sims 1 came out, and how many EP's did Sims 1 and 2 have? I really must say that 10 years is a long time in any product's history. I'm no big fan of EA (far from it..if you've ever read my stuff at RYG, they're probably #1 on my list of 'do not like') but I have to credit them with the patience of working through the cycles of games with us. |

Well, get ready to spend a fortune more. Aren't EPs for TS3 40-50 bucks? Sps 30-40? I forgot. And whats wrong with being a minority? Maybe it never bothers me since I always felt like a minority in life. But just cause their site closes, doesnt mean much to me since all it was necessarily useful for was the keep the patches available. Don't even bother with their customer support. Ever. They are already done making this game. The TS2 team has moved on to other projects, retired, whatever. They dont reserve a bunch of staff in a corner somewhere and label them as "the remaining TS2 staff that will continue to keep TS2 players happy for a game that is finished and is already 7 years old". I play alot of older games because they are fun, even though their sites are gone. I dont need to tag along with the "majority" as I enjoy what I already have.
