First off, I am not complaining. Just being curious.

I was wondering how much justice the current ban regulations make.
I break the rules, I get warning points and depending on their amounts I get banned from the forum for some time. That's good and fair.
But there's also an option to ban from a branch of the forum without any warnings, points or reasons and this ban is permanent.
If you think the first system to be good, why don't you use it overall? If you think the second system to be good, why do you bother with the points and stuff?
Again, permanent ban from one part of the forum for being unpleasant seems to be much harsher measure than banning for a couple of days for outright rudeness.

It depends on the situation and the poster. If they're only being a pain in one area of the forums but are otherwise behaving, then it makes more sense to remove their access from that area - generally, this ban is permanent though sometimes we may remove it if we see a major change in attitude that suggests the ban would be removable without the user causing further issues.

It's rare for the warning points system to actually result in a full ban. Generally, it's simply a "hey, cut that out," and as long as someone isn't interested in being an asshat, they go about their business, the points expire, and all is well. If someone -does- get banned via points and they come back and continue to be an asshat, then their ban is made permanent, site-wide.

I see this forum leans towards personal opinions of the admins more than to strict rules... Fair enough. Why would one keep a huge personal forum running if his wife can't ban whoever she doesn't like ^^

The way this forum is conducted has nothing to do with whether or not I like someone; we've had to ban people I liked plenty, because they ignored the rules. We have waaaaay too many users to hold individual grudges.

How we handle a particular situation depends on the best way to handle that particular situation, and the above-detailed information is a matter of policy, not personal preferences - not sure where I said "Oh, I just ban whoever I feel like," when what I -actually- said was that it depends on whether or not someone is misbehaving everywhere, or just one area, and that issues with users who misbehave in one area are handled by removing their access from that area so that they still have access to the rest of the forums.

However, if you would like to continue to beleaguer the point, I would be happy to make a specific exception for you, if you find the way our forum is conducted so intolerable or confusing as to prevent your continued enjoyment and use of it.

Oh, wait. *looks up in a notebook named Notes to Self* "Don't joke of HP. That's how you was introduced to the MTS ban system in the first place."

On the serious note, why don't make restricted forum branches viewable? Log Out and back In is a little tad annoying. Not that I really expect you to bother with us second-class banned citizens. Just a thought. If it's not too complex in programming terms.

Ok, what the heck is this? Lance, are you actually trying to make a point here and generate discussion or just come here to make cheap shots at the site?

I see how it goes - you make these remarks - and if you made them about any other member I would not hesitate to give you the warning and ban you are trolling for. But it's HP - and if I do then you will go about saying how you got banned for "standing up to the mods on bully-boy MTS".

So how do I proceed? If you don't change your smart ass tone I will ban you. Ok?

I like this site. And I like HP. You, I know nothing about, but I have a couple (wait... a couple? a whole folder actually ) of your CC in my collection.

After I got the rules explained, I ask if it's possible to make forums viewable without letting to post in there. That's really all there is to it.
I honestly don't see anything offensive in my jokes or any reason why you're trying to interpret them as "cheap shots" or "trolling" or "smart ass tone".

That's nice Lance. I won't get dragged into a public discussion of your attitude as I see it. If you have anything constructive to add regarding the Banning policies on this site please do so, otherwise I will lock this thread in an hour.

I'm fine with the banning policies. But I would really like to hear "no" or "we'll think about it" as an answer to my question.

Lock it then.

Edit: Wait - is it normal the Graveyard says there're no threads in there though it does show something in "the most recent one" field?

Edit2: And the under-post buttons are still misplaced for IE.
