According to 3DGames, EA is working with Maxis on a new Sims Styled game!

Quite a few EA employees has LinkedIn profiles and on said profiles there is mentions of a “Maxis Sims Styled Game” and “2011 Unannounced Maxis IP”.

Project: Maxis Style Sim Game PC (Currently unannounced)

Position: CG Supervisor

Well, I wonder what this is.
Important to note that a “Maxis Sims Styled Game” and "Maxis Style Sim Game" could be very two very different things.

A new similar game, or a different game? What you reckon?

I think it means the former not the latter. It means a sims-type game that has Maxis involved with it. Not a maxis-style game with sims in

Didn't EA buy Maxis or something?

Absolutely, they were bought up and eventually fully assimilated. I didn't think the brand was used any more, though of course it could be revived if EA feel there is a profitable reason to do so.

Mind you, they bought Maxis. So technically speaking, they can slap a Maxis logo on the product and call it a Maxis sims game. Just seeing it labeled a Maxis game doesn't mean Will Wright's coming back to EA to make it or anything.

Maybe they've seen the community reminiscing about 'the Maxis charm'. It would be nice if they could capture some of that magic, although I fear as a community we do have a tendency to look back at previous games through rose-tinted glasses.

I think I just threw up a little.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they pissed me off.

It's not TS4, (cough) but if it's anything like in that article, I have my doubts it'll sell well.

Wright is no longer with Maxis, so I doubt that is what they are talking about.

Maxis was alive and (relatively) well at least through last Spring, when they released Darkspore. I played in the beta of that game and was able to chat with some of the devs, who told me that Maxis is indeed still a separate entity with their own studio (while still owned by EA, of course). And they were very involved and responsive during the beta. I was quite regretful that I didn't like the game enough to buy it

ARGs are not Sims games. ARGs are more like...organized scavenger hunts in the real world with plotlines.

Thanks but no thanks.
I'll stick with my sims.

Seeing as a small portion of the Maxis team was working on "reviving" TSO a while back, I'm curious to see if the project is a TSO remake, or even a full-blown The Sims Online using the TS3 engine.

That TSO revival was not connected with any real Maxis programmers. It was a bunch of disparate hopefuls who eventually failed to do any more than just make plans.

Lets hope they don't drop the ball and that they've learned from their mistakes.

... oh, and I hope they didn't hire the people who reviewed Fable 2 and gave suggestions for Fable 3 (explanation: P.M. stated that the feedback they got from Fable 2 helped direct Fable 3's development). ie. Bad development direction and decisions.

More on this:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ks-simcity-talk

So it looks like people are speculating on a new Sim City game. If it is I hope it's compatible with TS3 in some way.
Whatever it is, it's being hyped-up as something really really big. But then, I remember them saying something similar about TSM, which was a miserable experience.

Didn't they patch Sim City 4 last year? A patch that came out 8 years after initial release? I remember reading that somewhere...

Awesome. I just stumbled upon my old copy of Sim City 4 Deluxe today and told my brother how much I wish they'd make a Sim City 5. Then I come here and read this. I hope it really is another Sim City game.
