*Please dont delete this thread or close it, because i reallly want to seriously discuss this topic. Thanks in advance*

Hello everyone,

Now, i know that we are not allowed to upload any of the sims 2 store stuff here, but since the store is now closed (forever(?)), would it make a difference if we upload the stuff here again? Something is not clear and would really appreciate it if someone would clarify it for me.

Thanks in advance.

This is not an official opinion, just a guess. But if it was pay content, it seems to me that it would be the same thing as if you were to upload a game that had gone "out of print" (You can tell my age. I still think in terms of paper books. lol) There may be sites that would accept and possibly even seek such uploads, but I doubt that MTS is one of them.

But I'm not sure that there is anything wrong with uploading something that is completely your own work, and merely inspired by or "in memory of" a particular Sims 2 store item. Please be prepared to prove that this -is- your own work, though. (possibly by posting in Creator Feedback as you work on it?) And clearly mention the store item that it was inspired by. Even EA deserves credit for their work. Again, this is not an official statement, just a guess based on current policy.

I am Ghost. My husband (who made the account because I was too shy) is sidneydoj. I post, he downloads, and I wanted to keep my post count.

No, you may not upload unmodified TS2 Store content. While it is no longer available through its proper source, you also can't, for example, upload a copy of TS2 base game just because you generally can't buy it separately in stores anymore either.

Indeed, as Ghost said, you can do "inspired by" type stuff. You can also do modifications of Store content, the same as you can with content from the base game or expansions (using bits of the meshes/textures/etc. as bases for your own work).

But would it harm EA (from any point of view, whether it was financially or even ethically, etc...) if we upload the stuff since they no longer provide it? This is what i want to understand (too).

It has nothing to do whether or not it would harm them. It has to do with the fact that they own the intellectual property rights to those items, and they didn't want Store stuff uploaded unmodified when the Store was up. They haven't said it's a free-for-all on it now, so we don't allow it. We're not in the habit of allowing things that are likely to make EA's legal department start sending us nastygrams.

Even if they did say "sure, now it's a free-for-all," MTS is mainly for uploading your own work, not stuff from elsewhere. It would be the sort of thing appropriate for the Sims 2 Graveyard site, unless EA gave us specific and exclusive permission to reupload, and then it would be done on a specific account created for that purpose, not just by anyone (like Sussi did with her stuff for TS2 when she quit modding).

And by modified you mean either fixed or changed or both?

Fixed, changed, used bits of the meshes/textures to make your own stuff, etc... - but a substantial edit, whatever it is, vs. the original... not just changing a small thing to technically call it a change so that you can upload it here. We treat expansion pack and Store content in pretty much the same way - it's fine to use the bits from it, fix it, twiddle with it, etc., as EA stuff is the basis for everything we do here, but ya can't just share it unmodified for the folks who didn't/can't/won't pay to get the original.

Ok, changing (as in recoloring or whatever) i dont do that stuff, but there are people on other websites who uploaded the FIXED content, since the original content was borked up, however, it wasnt just a separate fix, it was the content it self that was fixed. And what i wanted to do, if im allowed was just to link to the FIXED stuff (with credit of course, dah!), or i could juts upload the fixed content only (again, with credits).
